Our take
Based on the ratings of 12,549 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in May 2026. No course pays to be reviewed.
This is a five-hour refresher on the arithmetic that everything else in math sits on. The syllabus runs through negative numbers, factors and multiples, fractions, mixed numbers, decimals, ratio and proportion, exponents, radicals and scientific notation. There are 11 sections, 48 quizzes and 9 workbooks of extra practice. The listed audience is middle schoolers, homeschool parents and adults who want to study math for fun, and the only requirement is basic adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing. It was last updated in May 2026, so it isn't an abandoned 2014 upload.
Reviewers keep returning to the same point: Krista King explains things clearly and simply. Adults who haven't touched math in a decade, or since school, call it a smooth restart, and one says it helped her get past a fear of the subject. A reviewer who speaks English as a second language says it was all easy to follow. Complaints are rare. Out of roughly 12,500 ratings, 143 are one or two stars. The low review in our sample calls the material easy, the videos short and the explanations hard to follow, and another reviewer calls the built-in AI Assistant useless for this content.
On CourseDuck it is listed alongside the Algebra and Calculus 1 courses, and it works as the step before them. One reviewer bought it because some algebra and calculus concepts weren't clear, then bought more of Krista's courses. It stops at scientific notation, so plan on a second course for algebra. Take it if you feel rusty or nervous about math. Skip it if fractions and exponents already feel automatic.
Pros
- Reviewers back after a decade away from math call the explanations clear and a smooth way to restart
- 48 quizzes and 9 workbooks across 11 sections let you check each topic before moving on
- A non-native English speaker says everything was simple to follow, and others replay lessons until they click
- Updated May 2026 and rated 4.7 across more than 12,000 reviews, with most giving five stars
Cons
- Stops at scientific notation, so there is no algebra, geometry or calculus here
- A 2-star reviewer found the material easy, the videos short and the explanations hard to follow
- One reviewer says the built-in AI Assistant is useless for this content
This course helped me conquer my fear of maths having not done it since I was in school.
Truly beginner friendly: only basic arithmetic is assumed, and it suits middle schoolers through adults returning to math.

Course Description
HOW MASTER THE FUNDAMENTALS OF MATH IS SET UP TO MAKE COMPLICATED MATH EASY:
This 186-lesson course includes video and text explanations of everything from the Fundamentals, and it includes 48 quizzes (with solutions!) and an additional 9 workbooks with extra practice problems, to help you test your understanding along the way. Master the Fundamentals of Math is organized into the following sections:
Numbers and negative numbers
Factors and multiples
Decimals
Fractions
Mixed numbers
Ratio and proportion
Exponents
Radicals
Scientific notation
AND HERE'S WHAT YOU GET INSIDE OF EVERY SECTION:
Videos: Watch over my shoulder as I solve problems for every single math issue you’ll encounter in class. We start from the beginning... I explain the problem setup and why I set it up that way, the steps I take and why I take them, how to work through the yucky, fuzzy middle parts, and how to simplify the answer when you get it.
Notes: The notes section of each lesson is where you find the most important things to remember. It’s like Cliff Notes for books, but for math. Everything you need to know to pass your class and nothing you don’t.
Quizzes: When you think you’ve got a good grasp on a topic within a course, you can test your knowledge by taking one of the quizzes. If you pass, great! If not, you can review the videos and notes again or ask for help in the Q&A section.
Workbooks: Want even more practice? When you've finished the section, you can review everything you've learned by working through the bonus workbook. The workbooks include tons of extra practice problems, so they're a great way to solidify what you just learned in that section.
HERE'S WHAT SOME STUDENTS OF MASTER THE FUNDAMENTALS OF MATH HAVE TOLD ME:
“Wonderful course so far, great first step in refreshing my knowledge of math in preparation for college calculus come fall after 2 years off.” - Blake L.
“I swear I was math illiterate before, but no longer! Krista makes most things understandable, and if I don't understand something the first time, I just replay it another time or two and I get it! You have NO idea what this means to me. While I may not be ready for more advanced math like algebra or calculus (yet), I feel just a tiny bit smarter. Thanks!” - Tracy B.
“This is a really awesome course that takes you step by step through each topic explaining all the pertinent rules and how they apply. Each quiz fortifies what you learned in the lectures as well as testing your knowledge of the material covered. This is a very well thought out course and I enjoyed it immensely!” - William O.
“The instructor is great, very good and easy to understand instructions.” - John C.
“After trying a few of the other Math Fundamental courses and a GED class just to brush up on math. This is by far the best class I have found. The instructor speaks in an easy and clear English voice. If you are looking to brush up on you math skill then this is the class you are looking for.” - Maxx Z.
“Voice is crisp, Blackboard is clear, knowledge and overall presentation are Excellent.” - Majid T.
“Taking this course as a refresher, I was as struck by Ms. King's firm grasp of the fundamentals as I was by her engaging presentation. Too many math teachers breeze over key concepts which leaves many students puzzled and eventually lost. This course is exceptional in that each concept is thoroughly explained, with no steps skipped.” - Ben S.

When I was little I didn't take maths seriously. I mainly focused on art. It was years later that i realised that Maths is a important part of daily life. I was invited to join a life skills course at college but unfortunately there were complications. Anyway I found Udemy and then I found your course. So thank you for helping me a qualification in maths.

The course was better than expected, I bought it to have a better understanding of fundamental math because some advanced concepts of Algebra and Calculus were not clear to me, but now I understood why there were some things I did not have clear. I bought more courses because the way Krista teaches is so clear that I undertand it better than in my native language. Thank you!

Thank you so much, Krista! This course helped me conquer my fear of maths having not done it since I was in school. I now feel confident to continue on this journey and excited about learning more maths. You have opened the door to a future I didn't know I had, but had always dreamed about. I'll be starting a maths and science course in a few months - thank you so so much!

Great course for beginners and those who have learned this in school a long time ago, but forgotten most of the basics. Very well presented, and easy to follow. The quizzes really help to reinforce your learning. Thank You.

Thanks so much for this course Krista. I recommend this course to anyone who is interested in learning math or is revisiting the subject. It is a 'one-stop get your basics right' kind of course.

This course broke everything down to my understanding without making me feel stupid. Also the worksheets weren't too difficult and the perfect length

I thought this would be too easy and almost a waste of time and discovered to my horror that she is going over things I didn't really remember and doing it so well and in such an easygoing but efficient way that it is actually enjoyable. I wish she had been my teacher in my childhood!

Wonderful course! Krista is an excellent instructor, all the topics are explained clearly and enough examples are provided to grasp each concept. I needed a quick refresher on Math, completed the course in 2 days at 2x speed. I already purchased 3 other courses from her, can't wait!

I took this course to refresh my memory for an exam I have scheduled for a teaching credential in Algebra. I have a solid foundation in mathematics, as I am an engineer. The video lessons played at a good pace, for me. I didn't need a scratch of paper for majority of the lessons, until I got to Scientific Notation because there were a lot of numbers to remember. I learned some great tips from the Fractions and Radicals section that helped me solve problems faster. I will be continuing with Krista King's other lessons, including her mash up for Data Science. I downloaded the additional resources, but didn't use them, and took the Final, for fun.
