This is a model-answer companion, not a starting point. The IELTS Teacher, whom reviewers call Matt, walks through eighteen General Training Task 1 letters over about 7 hours and 37 lectures. They split evenly into informal, semi-formal and formal sections, with six letters each and a different purpose and topic for every one. It is only for General Training candidates. The description says plainly that it works best after his main Task 1 course, and the requirements list repeats that.

Reviewers like how clearly each part of a letter is explained. Several give scores: one says repeated 6.5s turned into a 7, another reports 7.5 in writing. One mentions that the slides are shared, and the listing adds a vocabulary exercise after each letter plus a quiz at the end of every section. Criticism is thin. Of 365 ratings, five are one or two stars and 16 are three. One three-star reviewer, writing in Italian, called it an average course, a run of examples from casual to formal. A few of the five-star comments are short and generic, so weigh those lightly.

The course was refreshed in May 2026 and about 2,700 students are enrolled. It is paid, and it works best as a second purchase after the main Task 1 course. Anyone who has done that and wants patterns to study will get good use from it. Someone still unsure how a General Training letter is built should start with the main course, or take the two side by side.

Throughout the course of each video, we will discover how to effectively plan our letter for each task, how to demonstrate a clear purpose from the get-go, how to transition seamlessly between sentences and paragraphs, how to appropriately use 'letter language', and how to include a wealth of grammatical complexity without sacrificing clarity.

This course has been divided into three sections, with each section dedicated to a different letter tone: informal; semi-formal; and formal. Within each of these sections are six letters, and each of these section's letters carries a different purpose and focuses on a different topic. That makes a total of eighteen letters!

Designing the course in this way allows you to clearly distinguish the different language used across the tones, and it also provides you with a great range of vocabulary and ideas according to different purposes and themes in IELTS General Writing Task 1.

There are vocabulary exercises following each of the letter lectures which aim to consolidate the vocabulary you have learnt in that video. These will also provide you with a copy of each letter in document form. You can also test yourself with three quizzes - one for the end of each section.

This course works best as an 'accompaniment' to your main writing studies. In other words, to make the most out of this Model Answers course, it is strongly recommended for you to go through the original 'Mastering IELTS Writing: Task 1 (GT)' course before beginning as all of the letters here rely on the strategies, techniques and guidance taught in that course. 

However, you can still benefit a lot from these IELTS GT model answers if you take the two courses at the same time.

Matt is the best writing teacher ever. Before getting to his lectures, I had always been stuck at 6.5 in IELTS writing test. But after studying his courses, I got 7.5 and then 8 in writing. I have been using his approach which is absolutely practical and helpful, in writing essays and reports in my graduate study. The Mastering task and the Model answers courses are a perfect combo, you should buy them both for each task. I couldn't thank him enough.

A really useful and totally practical course, in each one of its eighteen full examples we get a fully detailed explanation of everything we will need to solve the letters that could be requested in the exam. They are arranged according to its tone from formal, semi-formal or informal. It was really helpful and I truly recommend it.
