Course Description

MATLAB - What is it & why you need itMATLAB is a widely-used software program that is found in many industries ranging from engineering to finance. Users love it because it's easy to use and produces high quality graphics. All you have to do to get started is learn to code in MATLAB. This course will teach you just that! We will start from the very beginning by introducing the desktop environment and work our way up to more complex topics like nested for loops. We'll cover lots of examples and work through all of them step by step. Unlike many instructors, I don't assume you know more than you do. Why this course instead of other online MATLAB courses?
I have taught MATLAB many, many times. I know what works for students and what doesn't. This course is structured differently from others available online. Other instructors just show themselves typing code in MATLAB as they explain the topics. I don't think that's the best way for you to learn.
In this course, we will have a brief lecture with slides discussing the concepts. You will also be provided with a downloadable booklet of examples for each chapter and we will work through them together. This gives you the opportunity to code while having someone walk you through it at the same time.
The only way to learn coding is to write code yourself so I have created 13 quizzes for you to test your knowledge. Don't worry though, video solutions are provided in case you get stuck.
Another benefit of this course is the rigor of the examples and quizzes. I don't always give simple one step problems. Many of the problems you will work will require a combination of topics and steps, allowing you to further enhance your skills. Here's what you'll learn... -Matrices and Vectors -2-D Plotting -User-defined functions -Logical statements: if-elseif, switch-case -Looping techniques: for and while loops -And more! Let's take a closer look at what comes with the course... Downloadable items: -Lecture slides for each chapter to give you the background you need for each topic (5 Chapters) -Booklet of examples for each chapter to allow you to practice on your own or along with me in the videos -Quizzes (13 of them) Videos: -Lecture videos featuring detailed explanations of all topics -Explanations of all the examples to increase your comprehension -Solutions to all quizzes and exams in case you get stuck And just to make sure this class will work for you... Fundamental topics from calculus and physics are used so it is helpful (but not required) to know basics like vectors, derivatives, and integrals. Let's get started... Enroll Now! There's no better time than now!
Who this course is for:
Engineering students wanting to learn MATLAB fundamentalsStudents who want to improve and apply their MATLAB skills using math and engineering examplesProfessionals looking to add a new skill to their portfolio

Instructor Details

Cherish Qualls, PhD

Hi!
I graduated from Auburn University with a M.S. and PhD in Aerospace Engineering. After graduation I began worked as a Systems Engineer at Lockheed Martin. After working in industry for 8 years I decided to focus on teaching full time.
I have 18+ years of teaching experience and have helped 1000's of students transform from freshmen to successful engineers. Some of the courses I teach include: Statics, Dynamics, Thermodynamics, MATLAB, Numerical Analysis, Controls, Fluid Mechanics and Solid Mechanics. I have taught at Auburn University, University of North Texas and Texas Christian University.
I believe in teaching my courses in a way that I wanted to be taught when I was in school...plenty of examples, not a lot of theory. Many instructors don't understand the learning needs of their students. They give complicated lectures full of theory but then hardly ever work out examples. The examples they do work tend to be simple or the examples already presented in the course textbook.
This is why I recently founded STEM Course Prep. STEM Course Prep is meant to help struggling students succeed before they have to drop or fail a class.
My courses have plenty of detailed examples with only the theory and derivations you really need. My current Udemy course offerings are MATLAB Parts 1 and 2, Numerical Analysis, Thermodynamics, Statics, Dynamics Parts 1 and 2, Fluid Mechanics Parts 1, 2 and 3, Controls, Orbital Me

The course was well structured, along with numerical examples of varying difficulty as and when needed. This course indeed is an effective, and smooth introduction to Matlab Programming.

This course has really been helpful. Concepts have been explained clearly from scratch and that too with examples after each topic taught. I feel, I have studied a whole lot about MATLAB, as I was a total beginner at it and now I started feeling more comfortable with using MATLAB. Thank you for this course. Looking forward to Part 2 of this course!

A lot of examples, Good explanation of matherial, lecturer points and explains difficult points in matherial

By Abhigyan Datta on 6/21/2020

This is the ideal set of lectures for anyone starting out on MATLAB. The codes also work with Octave. Any engineering student/ practicing engineer must take this course. The videos were precise, and nicely paced, and the abundant examples of gradually increasing difficulty were the ideal way to teach MATLAB.
