Course Description

The Maven Quick Start course is designed to cut academic theory to just the key concepts and focus on basics tasks in Maven in order to be productive quickly. The lessons and examples provided are delivered in a step-by-step, detailed way to ensure mastery of the skills and topics covered.

Course Outline

Introduction walks through the course goals, approach and the core concepts of Maven.

After that, we breeze through installation of all required tools in the Quick Installation section. The full step-by-step installation process is available in the Bonus sections.

In Setup and Getting Help, we cover how to ask for help in Maven. We also download the course working files on GitHub.

With the formalities out of the way, we dive into a Maven Quick Start By Example, walking the foundational aspects of Maven using a sample application.

After the basics are covered, we explore Maven Plugins in more detail by customizing our project using them.

One of the key aspects of Maven, is how it handles Dependencies. We go deeper by adding dependencies from Maven Central and explore the role of scopes with dependencies in Maven.

Then we improve our project by Unit Testing -- where we add JUnit tests, deal with (and avoid) testing failures. Finally, the last section of the main part of this course is dedicated to running Maven within Eclipse using the M2Eclipse plugin.

Finally, we will look at Using Archetypes to jump start Maven projects by using a template system.

During the entire course, we get into a habit of saving our changes periodically using Git source control.

Course Features

Presentations provide audio/video training of conceptual ideas. Since few like slide-ware presentations, slide-presentations are kept to a minimum.

Over 2 hours of Screencasts provide a video of the instructor's computer system with any actions, commands, or screens displayed and narrated.

Project files and examples are all available on GitHub.

This course is fully closed captioned!

This course is an excellent resource for anyone looking to gain practical experience with Maven. The hands-on approach adopted by the course allows learners to tackle real-world Maven scenarios, effectively preparing them for the day-to-day challenges they may encounter in their professional lives. The course content is well-structured and easy to follow, making it suitable for both beginners and experienced developers looking to refresh their knowledge. The practical exercises are thoughtfully designed to reinforce the concepts taught, ensuring that learners not only understand the theory but also know how to apply it in practice.

I am an experienced developer and have the whole environment set-up and yet just listening to the instructions of set-up is scaring me. Really difficult to build interest in a course in which the beginning is so complex. The tone of delivery seems monotonous in set up phase. However, it was apt in the training phase. Videos start and end abruptly and are too short. Chapters could have been covered in single videos which were still under 10 mins. The content is exhaustive. It is important to build the environment as a whole. Thanks for including Git and Eclipse set-up and integration as well.

Great course! I learned a lot about Maven, and I also learned more about Git and using GitHub within Eclipse. Lots of helpful fundamentals in this course. The instructor assumes that students have very little knowledge about this topic, and that makes the course easy to follow and thorough.

Recomendo.

I almost wanted to say this course could double as a Git course. I now realised the tutor also has courses on Git. Well-laid out. However, I will prefer that the videos are longer that is multiple concepts can be merged into one video.

Referring students to some of the main locations in the documentation is especially helpful as it provides a starting point to know where to go to dig deeper to explore beyond the given examples. There were a few missed opportunities to use commands such as mvn exec:java rather than java -jar. Overall, a solid introduction to Maven.

Thank you for creating such a nice course explaining maven!! Before this course, I used maven mostly from Eclipse IDE. I always wanted to understand the actual maven implementation through command-line. This course helped me understand maven in a better way.

Good pace and to the point instructions. It was a really a different kind of learning about maven basics along with git, which makes this training unique. Material is relevant and gives you quick start with practical use of maven. Again the material covers basic concepts and does not get into the depths of maven and its constructs.

Great Comprehensive Quickstart course about Maven. It would have saved me a lot of trouble if I've had seen it before started using Maven. The only thing that I didn't like was the 2-3 minute lesson format. I think longer lessions would have been somewhat better.
