Microsoft Power BI Mastery: From Beginner to Intermediate (Udemy.com)

This was an amazing Power BI Class! I learned a lot, the instructors were really informative and it was a good pace. My only two struggles were 1) BI has changed a lot since the recording so the Visualizations - Format Visual pane is very different. I had to stop a lot to find the changes they were trying to make within the new panes. Some are not available, some are different - that took some extra time. 2) I am in the US and the spreadsheets are in UK format when it comes to dates and currency. I tried using Settings/Options to confirm Regional Settings as UK (to avoid having to manipulate the data) but (I'm guessing) because my user is in US format, when I was adding information to Measures, the data was being converted/changed or I was having issues with the date format and errors. Ultimately, I learned a lot about how to format the cells but there were a few tasks I could not complete because of the issues with the data.

Very helpful, I feel like I have a good baseline understanding. I like how there was just enough repetition in order for it to stick.

This course gives a very good overview of all the things that can be done with Power BI from beginner's level to intermediate. It has exercises that can be done at the same time whilst the tutor is explaining. I especially enjoyed the intermediate part with Deborah Ashby - she is an excellent tutor. The only negative point is the fact that it uses an older version of Power BI and some of the options are now different - so I had to look for them.

From knowing nothing about Power BI to cleaning data, establishing relationships, writing DAX measures & building reports and Dashboards, this course has taught me about the foundational aspects of the Tool to confidently learn more Advanced concepts. Instructor is very knowledgeable and presents the material in a clear and concise manner that's easy to understand. I did find that I had a better listening experience by increasing the playback speed to 1.25. The instructor has provided a large number of sample and exercise files, along with quizzes so that students can confirm their understanding of the concepts and techniques covered in the course. The exercise files provide a valuable opportunity for students to try out, in the real world, the various fundamental techniques, such as creating relationships between tables and creating custom Date tables that provide more granular analyses of the datasets. I am now in the Intermediate section of the course, this time with a different instructor. However, the high quality of the presentations continues. Every concept is explained thoroughly and demonstrated with numerous examples. This is indeed a most practical and enjoyable series of lectures on using the Power BI application. I hope someday I will have the opportunity to apply what I've learned in this course to solve real world business problems.

Excellent Tutors but Outdated Course Material I enrolled in the Power BI course on January 1, 2024, with high expectations given the positive reviews about the tutors, and I must say, they truly live up to the praise. The tutors are exceptional at explaining lessons, particularly the ones on DAX and Power Query, which were insightful and well-delivered. However, my enthusiasm took a hit when it came to applying the knowledge in the real world using Power BI Service and Power BI Desktop. The course fails to keep up with the latest updates, making it challenging to follow along, especially when you consider the subscription fee of £9 a month for Power BI Service. The discrepancy between the course content and the current state of Power BI Service and Desktop can be challenging and frustrating. In my humble opinion Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service are nothing to write home about. They seem to be hastily put together by a team Microsoft amateur programmers. In conclusion, while the tutors shine in delivering lessons, the course is outdated, especially in relation to Power BI Service and Power BI Desktop, hinders the overall learning experience. The discrepancy between the course content and the current versions of the tools is palpable, leaving room for improvement. I believe a three-star rating is a fair reflection of the mixed experience, with five big stars dedicated to the exceptional tutoring. I hope the course undergoes necessary updates to align with the advancements in Power BI, ensuring a more seamless and relevant learning journey for future enrolees and let’s hope that Power BI desktop and Power BI Service become more user friendly. Totally unimpressed.

Great course and content. Setting the playback speed to 1.25 is perfect for me and I think that the way things have been structured and explained so far is spot on.

Instructor is really good. However, no one responds to questions and I've found inaccuracies in the quiz and exercise questions which I've raised questions on but have not had a response.

The course is good and really helpful, but the video presentation is sometimes annoying because there are times that the videos will just stop while you are in the middle of training. Tried to reload the video but it is just loading. My internet connection is good and I can go to Udemy's homepage without error. To be able to watch the video again, I need to wait for about 30 mins to 1 hour, which I think is time consuming.
