Course Description
Don't get left behind! Increase your value as a web developer today by learning how to integrate AI in to your projects!
Please note this course uses the Next JS pages router.
Welcome to the exciting world of AI-powered, next-generation, Next JS apps!
In this course we will create a fictional Software-As-A-Service (SAAS) product called "BlogStandard". We'll build "BlogStandard" using a combination of Next.js, OpenAI's GPT, MongoDB, Auth0, Stripe, and Tailwind CSS. BlogStandard allows users to create an account (handled by auth0), purchase tokens (handled by stripe), and spend those tokens to generate blog posts, powered by OpenAI's GPT API. User's tokens and generated blog posts will be stored using MongoDB.
In this comprehensive online course, you'll learn how to harness the power of these cutting-edge technologies to build a fast, responsive, and dynamic web application that generates high-quality blog posts using AI. With step-by-step guidance, you'll gain hands-on experience working with each of these technologies to bring your vision to life.
First, we'll dive into Next.js, a popular framework for building web applications. You'll learn how to create fast and responsive pages, manage routing, and integrate APIs to build a powerful and dynamic web application.
Next, we'll explore OpenAI's GPT, the state-of-the-art language generation model, and learn how to use it to generate high-quality blog posts. You'll also discover how to integrate MongoDB, a scalable and flexible NoSQL database, to store and manage data for our application.
In addition, you'll learn how to use Auth0, a powerful identity management platform, to handle user authentication and authorization, and Stripe, a leading payment processor, to handle transactions and payment processing. Finally, you'll learn how to use Tailwind CSS, a modern CSS framework, to style and design your application, bringing your vision to life.
By the end of this course, you'll have the skills and knowledge you need to build your own AI-powered app and unleash the full potential of AI in your web development projects. So what are you waiting for? Join now and start your journey to the exciting world of AI-powered Next JS apps!

I'm excited to share that I've successfully completed the course "Next JS & OpenAI/GPT: Next-Generation Next JS & AI Apps" by Tom Phillis. Throughout the course, I gained hands-on experience with: Integrating Auth0 as a Single Sign-On (SSO) provider Leveraging the OpenAI API to build intelligent, AI-powered applications Developing a Next.js application from scratch, including full deployment to DigitalOcean Grateful to Tom Phillis for this insightful and practical learning journey!

This Next.js course with Auth0, Stripe integration, MongoDB, and AI is excellent for intermediate to advanced developers. The instructor is highly competent and covers complex topics thoroughly, though the pace can be a bit fast at times. Despite this, the instructor provides immediate help when needed, which is incredibly beneficial. The course is well-structured with practical, hands-on projects that effectively reinforce the material. It's a valuable learning experience for those looking to enhance their Next.js skills and integrate authentication, payment processing, and AI features into their applications. Highly recommended for serious learners.

Excellent course that taught me a lot of great information! My only nitpicks are that you jump around a lot, making it difficult to code along with you. What is more frustrating, however, is that the intellisense popups are constantly covering up what you are typing, which results in a lot of pausing and rewinding. I would also suggest that you update your future course repositories so that they contain branches based on the course's sections. This would allow people to easily compare their code with errors with your code... based upon their current progress in the course. You are only offering the completed code in the repo. That being said, I loved your course! Thank you! e.g.

It was really fast and consequently hard to follow if you don't already have a significant amount of background knowledge not just in react.js. A lot of core concepts or decisions made are glossed over or not mentioned at all. All that being said, this is what I was looking for in a course this short building an app this complicated. This serves as a good introduction to next.js but to actually understand what is going on you will need to build on what you've been introduced to here. Either way its a really cool app and he has definitely elevated my understanding of next.js and helped me grasp why people use it in the first place. Thanks Tom !

Bottom line- if you are stuck, instructor will go to great lengths to help you with any issue. I ran into two such issues and one had a resolution the SAME DAY, the other required them to fork my code and do independent investigation. A solution was found soon after. It does go quickly, but asking thoughtful questions about any difficult concepts will get thoughtful responses with reasoning. In the end, you are left with a great project.

This course is REALLY good but it IS NOT for beginning students and you may have to actually slow the video down quite a bit when watching. The instructor is obviously VERY knowledgeable and a skilled developer, he moves VERY fast especially when coding. I find myself frequently having to pause the video to keep up, and I generally watch my Udemy courses on 1.25 or 1.5x speed; definitely faster moving than many instructors on Udemy. I LOVE that it gets right into building something useful. In a matter of hours you can throw together a working skeleton SaaS app which is great. It doesn't cover much of the basics of Next.JS, React, or other stuff so if you're looking to build foundational knowledge an intro course may be better.

The instructor speaks so fast that you have to pace yourself, and even when you slow down, he goes over the code so quickly that you have to stop and listen. I don't understand why the instrutor steers you to the digital ocean paid option for the final deployment, it seems like it is used for the instructor's affiliate in the bonus track even though nextjs can be easily deployed for free on vercel. I recommend the content of the course, but the presentation skills of the instructor are a bit lacking.

I recently took a programming course on Udemy and it was absolutely incredible. The course was very satisfying to follow step-by-step, and each concept was explained in a way that was easy to understand. The instructor, Tom, did an excellent job of breaking down each reason and providing great and clean code. Im very happy with everything I learned, and it was one of the most motivating and informative courses I have taken on Udemy. I appreciated Tom's emphasis on good programming practices, and I learned a lot about NextJS, Tailwind, and Mongo. Even as someone with only basic knowledge, the course was an excellent way to advance my skills. The amount of time and dedication I put into this course was well worth it. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to improve their programming skills. Overall, the course was well worth the investment, and I would like to thank Tom for all the knowledge and insight he provided. If you are interested in improving your programming skills, this course is an excellent choice.

Minus: - The course does not spend enough time on MongoDB, OpenAI, Stripe, Auth0. - The course does not cover getStaticPaths, getServerSideProps in detail, which can be a disadvantage for those who want to learn more about static and server-side rendering methods in NextJS. - Fonts here are connected through a separate library, and NextJS complained about it, in the new version it is done without libraries. - No information about getStaticPaths and getServerSideProps. - DigitalOcean was chosen for deployment, and it is not suitable for deployment of pet projects, as it is a paid platform (I deployed on Vercel, but I don't know what those who did not have experience with NextJS will do). in the course there is a reference to a discount on free deployment for 2 months - not all pages are covered with styles, the author scored on /token-topup and /success (I know and said that you can do it if you want, but I will not do it) - the topic of NextJS routing is not fully disclosed

One of the best "real world / practical" courses I have followed on this platform. Everything is well explained even if you are not used to nextjs, and the instructor is very reactive in the Q and A section, he takes time to answer all questions about the course posted by students. If you want to touch the Openai API and have an idea about launching a SaaS project, invest in this course it is worth it!
