Course Description
Updated December 2022 to support Node-Red version 3
In December 2022, we added a new section with eight lectures that cover Node-RED version 3.
With these lectures, you will learn how to upgrade your Node-RED instance to version 3 and use the most important new and updated features.
Updated June 2022 to support Node-Red version 2.2.2+ and Node.js 16.
More details about this update: We have added ten new lectures that show you how to update Node-Red to version 2.2.2, and Node.js to version 16, as well as how to use several of the new nodes that come with Node-Red 2.
There's also a lecture showing you how to complete this project without having to set up an actual terrarium so that you can learn without the mess.
This course teaches you how to design and build an automated control system using Node-RED and the ESP32.
This course will guide you through the construction of an automated control system. The deliverable is a Terrarium controller.
Along the way, you will learn a great deal about useful technologies such as the Node-Red programming environment and MQTT.
This course is perfect for makers familiar with the ESP32 and interested in learning how to use it alongside Node-RED.
Node-RED is a lightweight graphical programming tool. You can use it to join various hardware and software components and create applications such as the automated terrarium controller in this course.
Node-RED is used in a range of settings. Makers create home automation applications, and organisations use it to automate their factory floors, among many other possibilities.
The ESP32 is a powerful low-cost microcontroller with built-in Wi-Fi that we can program with the familiar Arduino IDE. Its "call to fame" is that it makes it easy for anyone familiar with the Arduino to leverage their knowledge and create gadgets that need more memory and processing power than what the Arduino Uno can provide, in addition to Wifi and Bluetooth. All this at a lower price point.

At the end of the course, you can leave examples of how to update the previous one, but I think the whole course could have been done from scratch. The author's idea is good and the course is quite well prepared, it's just a pity that it's a bit outdated

The course and exercises are based on an older Node Red version, so some of the exercises are not 100% compatible for example adding var when dealing with variables. Completed 40% of the course and is great and engaging learning. It deals mainly with Node-red. I hope that I'll be able to complete it because on first pass the concepts are somewhat overwhelming (practicing it will come later). So far the ESP32 had not been touched yet. A little googling was required to wire the DHT11 I have to the RPi. Working with the more recent NodeRed v3.0.2 examples are not producing the output for both the temperature and humidity msg's.

Remarkably thorough, and well updated. This tutorial covers all necessary background points in detail both for the project and for an understanding of the underlying technology as a whole. I feel as if I have the knowledge necessary to pursue this project but also any other that I might care to engage with using NodeRed and MQTT.

Very inspiring course. It took me however quite a long time to comply because I had to brush up my JavaScript, and to do side studies about Node-RED and MQTT and ESP32 in general. What is the best, al least for me, is that you are building something useful and concrete while learning a lot of new things.

Thank you so much for the preparation and present this course. It was an unbelievable experience. I cannot tell what I had gotten from this course one by one, but I can say that I have been an angle to the looks completely differently this topic after completing this the course. Finally, if you are interested in this topic, I certainly recommended you please join this attend. Thank you.

Overall quite satisfied with the course. Dr Dalmaris is of course quite knowledgeable and explains himself well. Resources are provided that help you track what is going on. I tended to code along and had my own implementation files that differed from the course code but still worked just fine.

Excellent courses from the content, the steps and the performance speed as well as the sound quality are very good. I am very grateful for the opportunity to learn from home, as well as for this quality of courses. It is really a lot of fun. Thank you very much and many successes. A.Cherkaoui

This course was a good introduction to programming with the Raspberry Pi and ESP32. A section on how to configure the Arduino and ESP32 would be useful in this course. In the end, I was successful in connecting my devices in part from spending many extra hours reading the documentation on the software websites. I look forward to expanding this project in the near future!

He proceeds very well and in structured form. He knows what he is talking about. but the music at the beginning of each section is annoying/irritating. The problem is that he says something while the music is playing. with this music it is really difficult to understand what he talk about. it only takes a few seconds, but it is annoying. In my opinion, without this music, the best courses in microcontroller and connection with the Node-red

Great course, very structured, and as always very clear explanations. You'll get all you need to know to start with Node-RED and MQTT to control an ESP32 with the connected sensors and actors. A ton of links for further selfstudy. I really enjoyed this course.
