Oil Painting Master Series (Udemy.com)

Because this course is easy to follow, I’ve taken a few college courses in art such as color theory, design and drawing still life. And taking this course is comparable to my experience with college level art courses. This is a good course and I would recommend anyone who is interested in art but don’t want to go to college to learn oil painting.

Really enjoyed this course. I've been tinkering with oil painting, but wasn't sure what I was doing. This course helped me to understand better how to use my tools and actually do a painting without a mess or a bunch of other unnecessary stuff to learn or buy. The instructor explains everything at a very good pace making it enjoyable and easier to understand.

yes I feel that this course is proving very benficial to me .This is because ,I being a beginner was quite unsure of the terms like Value , glaze and such, Now working along with you I can truly understand these terms in context to oil painting, I am very happy to have signed up for this course ,It should help me a lot in the long run. As a complete beginner with oil paints, I enjoyed this course because it has given me a good understanding of how to approach using oil paints and of the importance of using additional elements such as medium and the different brush types. I like that the course starts off with the basics: how to stretch a canvas and priming it, and also how to create and organize a pallet.

The quality of information and tuition is excellent but why is the instructor competing with irrelevant and annoying background music? Everything from oriental, jazz, blues, piano, country, etc... At one point I even heard bagpipes? It is so distracting I almost abandoned the course. Instruction is clear and informative and I have learnt a lot. A great pity about the unnecessary background music, which adds nothing and takes away from what would have been a 5 star course.

Initially easy to understand. But as I progressed, I find that while it looks quite easy, its only when one paints along the videos - is that one will understand the process. Meanwhile i do believe the painter / instructor in this series did a good job of explaining the steps. I still have to acquire any painting material; leave alone start painting.

Have only just started this course and briefly flicked through the videos and supplied handouts and have to say I am very impressed. As an ex Teacher, Technical Author and Online Presenter plus over the last two years have watched a great deal of paiting tutorials both free and paid for - this course is certainly up there with the best. Not rushed, simplistic, builds on basic principles and allowd the student to actually achieve good results on par with the Instructor. The feathering and blended technique on the ball resulted in a much prized and 'pleased with my self' (ie not in the bin) painting. Will certainly as I am finding with other Udemy Art Instructors that I might as well be at Art School and allowing me (now retired) to really get to grips with art, enjoying doing so and a feeling of acheievement. Shame that Udemy facilitators and software team ( my past job) in there disastrous decision to change the layout and student management of chosen courses, order and review plus for some reason on this course found some lessons would simply not run.

I did learn several approaches to oil painting and completed successful works. What lacked for me was a detailed explanation of the paint mixing, visual reference until the last lesson and or instructions that required preparation or guessing what was the correct color or brush technique to use in a given painting. Maybe you were trying to cover too much in a short period of time? The open ended approach, encouragement and motivation to paint were excellent! Thank You!

The material is very helpful and it has good examples. It's more of a painting course than a demonstration although demonstrations are used for learning. This course was very good and offered a lot of opportunities to explore and develop a personal painting style. I found the instructor engaging and easy to understand. I would take another course from this instructor if offered.

The instructor covers all of the concepts in detail, explaining the reason for the decisions he makes while creating the final artwork. He demonstrates all of the techniques he uses i.e. scumbling, blending, glazing, etc. The demonstrations are done on simple, non-complicated subject matter layout to get you started in the right direction. He covers likely painting subjects -- portraits, still life, transparency, pallet knife painting, abstract etc. showing you the brushes and materials he uses to paint a simple representation of each genre. A beginning student will learn from his explanation of how to paint shadows, highlights, warm and cool tones, etc. This course presents fundamental knowledge every oil painter can benefit from.
