Course Description
This course teaches you how to use OpenCode from the ground up.
You will learn how to set up OpenCode, understand the interface, work with AI coding agents, create project rules, use agent skills, connect tools with MCP, create custom agents and sub agents, and build a basic Next.js application using free AI models only.
The goal is not just to show you how to press buttons and hope the AI gets everything right.
The goal is to teach you a practical workflow for using agentic coding tools properly.
You will learn how to break work down into manageable steps, give better instructions, guide the AI through tasks, review its output, fix issues, and build with more confidence.
By the end of the course, you will understand how to use OpenCode as a serious coding assistant, even when working with free models, opening your eyes to what's possible without using any paid models at all.
Why OpenCode?
OpenCode is one of the most exciting tools for developers who want to explore agentic coding without being locked into expensive subscriptions or restrictive usage limits.
With OpenCode, you can:
Work with AI coding agents inside your development workflow
Use free models to generate, edit, and refactor code
Create rules that guide how the AI behaves in your project
Use agent skills to improve repeatable workflows
Connect external tools through MCP
Build real applications with a more structured AI-assisted process
Learn agentic coding concepts that transfer to other tools as well
The key is that free models need a bit more planning, structure, and direction, and that's exactly what this course teaches you.
If you want to start building with agentic coding tools without constantly worrying about usage limits or expensive subscriptions, this one is for you.

Fantastic course. Short, practical, full of useful knowledge and Tom, the instructor, has an engaging style that makes the experience very enjoyable.

opencode content is great, however it assumes user is familiar with web developer methods, like working with a Next project. Some of the videos are hard to follow due to the nature of what file does what and I need to know that is happening.

I really liked the course; I learned quite a bit more than in other basic OpenCode courses. I’m going to go through the whole thing a second time on macOS to evaluate and compare the results.

I enjoyed the course and followed along without issues. I learned a lot and will be able to apply these new skills to my current employment. Thank you.

The author provides very precise introduction on various important topics without bloating the course. Each explanation is straight to the point and the sample project has been able to bring out the practical usage of the agentic programming. I wish there could be some follow up courses to dive deeper into the agentic engineering with a more sophisticated project, which can illustrate on the agentic workflow, multi-agent interactions, open source LLM deployment, loop engineering, etc. Overall, this course is highly recommended for those interested in agentic programming without the need to spend big on paid model.

It was really informative and gave good concrete examples. I would have liked more end-to-end fullstack applications so we can get a feel for using opencode agents for more specialized tasks and some work on using these tools for code review, but it really covered the important basics in a really good and thorough way.

Before starting this course I had been self-taught opencode for a few weeks, the course has introduced me to new processes and functionality.
By Gopal Ramasammy-Cook on 7/9/2026
Great course. Concise and to-the-point, but covering all the essential principles in an easily understandable and well-presented way. Thank you.
By Salvador Santander Gutiérrez on 6/28/2026
Great course, just what I needed. Perfect for getting the most out of OpenCode. It goes from the basics to more advanced topics like skills and sub-agents. I love that it’s concise and straight to the point, without making the lessons longer than necessary. Thanks, Tim.
