Course Description
Wielding the piano opens up a whole new world of creative possibilities.
In this foundational course, I teach you how to play piano as a singer/songwriter. It's a unique method that takes somebody with zero musical experience and transforms them into a piano wielding singer/songwriter.
This method has been refined over the last 3 years as I've taught more and more artists in New York and Los Angeles.
Every lecture builds upon the previous lecture. I walk you through the whole process as efficiently as possible, taking every effort to find ways to cut your learning time in half.
Watch the lectures, complete the challenges, and enjoy playing! By the end you should be able to pick a song, adjust the song to most singable key for your voice, and accompany yourself on the piano.
You should take this course if you think you'd have fun playing the songs you love and exploring how piano wielding singer/songwriters like Carol King, Alicia Keys, and Ben Folds express themselves on the piano.
This is a foundational course for beginners. This course is meant to be an alternative to a traditional piano lesson schedule.
If you love playing, writing and singing songs, this course is for you.
Hope to see you on the inside!

Great Course. I come from a background of fingerstyle acoustic guitar so I understand the formation of chords. But the concept of Voice Leading was fascinating to transpose to tight chord voicing on my guitar. Something I believe Jazzers do a lot. I've not really played the keyboard much even though I was gifted one. This has wetted my appetite. It seems a bit easier with the notes laid out in linear fashion with one middle C whereas I have a choice of four on the guitar! Thank you for the inspiration. I have set my task for learning "Imagine" which I already play on guitar so should be doable, maybe!

The course is called Piano for Singer/Songwriters | Write songs and Perform Live! He didn't teach how to write songs. There was just a 3 minute video towards the end saying, "Play chord progressions and make up words. Anything more than that is beyond the scope of this course." I was crushed when I realized there would not be any songwriting. Also, there was no content on performing live. I bought this to be able to write songs and perform and received no real instructions on that. He needs to change the title. Then I can give it five stars because the piano playing part is excellent.

Great idea of combining both the lesson and the 'game' after so i'm able to see progress myself not only in performance but in my ability to read back to others whilst playing what the notes and intervals are. I was never able to do this before - Great pacing and teaching so far! *Update - Clear instructions about guiding both your left and right hand into various different patterns on the keyboard through the 1-5-1 Rhythm and Soft Rock Rhythm. I am able to keep up well and it's great that he goes over everything a few times before the lesson session is up. The bonus content is super! It is set out accurately in ways easy to read - The prep sheet (That i've now been doing each time I learn a new song) and the tutorial played back at a nice and steady pace. This course has shown me of my improvements from when I started to now (And on to the next course!). Really pleased - Thank you!

Thus far it has been helpful. I have had a year of lessons about 45 minutes or so every week before this course and I did not know the names of all of the intervals. Now I understand the chord rhythms much better. Just finished the course and I enjoyed the real world applications at the end. I would have liked more of those applications to actual songs as that really brings home the point. Thank you.

Really great showing me which inversions to use to transition from chord to chord in a very smooth and Pro fashion - Thanks!. It will really help with my guitar based songwriting production as well as piano based composing in the future. I already knew the chord spellings (as I've played guitar for many years) but you really showed me the way with the different and correct inversions to use. The only big improvement I can suggest it to make a looping facility on the player, so students don't have to keep stopping and starting manually with the mouse to learn the rhythms. It's also an irritation to not be able to download the course as I have to fish through the internet to get it started every time instead of just hitting an icon as I do with my Truefire guitar courses. If those two things were in place you'd get a 10/10 everytime! Respect Jules.

I found this course to be very helpful because of the hands-on (literally) approach to understanding chords and songwriting and playing. The main thing I liked about this course is the way it jumps right in to actually playing riffs on the piano. I especially like the way the course ends up, with how to look up chord progressions for your favorite songs, reading lead sheets, and some great advice on how to structure practice time.

Loved the course for distilling the theory and rudiments of music in a short and sweet course. I am tempted to mark it down half a star for the lack of notes (PDF) in the resources section to explain and illustrate inversions and voice-leading. Something to study and read away from the keyboard or the laptop. That would have been brilliant. However, i still think the course and it's author have earned a well-deserved 5-star rating. Definitely worth it's price!

I thought this was a great course, depending upon your level you may have to work over sections numerous times to get the material but there's a lot chocked in here. If you are expecting to just breeze through it well there is a lot of material so you will probably have to stop and work on things. I wouldn't have it any other way otherwise I'd feel short shifted. Great stuff.

This is a great course if you're ready to get serious about practicing inversions and making your songs sound more professional. The instructor is patient, knowledgeable, and an excellent communcator. I learned a lot. In the future, I hope the instructor will include all PDFs in one easily accessed place (right now they're scattered throughout the course). I would also like to see more PDFs. It would help me understand the material better and give me more practice at reading music.

This course is deceptively brilliant. The lessons are short and teaching is concise so it's easy to gloss over. The cool thing is that you can always go back and rewatch the lessons. I've found power in this type of learning is repetition. The power of this course is that it's actually quite comprehensive. Rob really gives us all of the necessary tools to be able to write and play music. The additional chapter is very important. I wouldn't even call it a bonus chapter. It's vital viewing. He demonstrates how to take a song that we would like to play and to actually play it. I can't say that I'm a confident piano player but I'm a lot more confident than I was before I took this course.
