Course Description
This is a hands-on, project-based course designed to help you master the foundations for unsupervised machine learning in Python.
We’ll start by reviewing the Python data science workflow, discussing the techniques & applications of unsupervised learning, and walking through the data prep steps required for modeling. You’ll learn how to set the correct row granularity for modeling, apply feature engineering techniques, select relevant features, and scale your data using normalization and standardization.
From there we'll fit, tune, and interpret 3 popular clustering models using scikit-learn. We’ll start with K-Means Clustering, learn to interpret the output’s cluster centers, and use inertia plots to select the right number of clusters. Next, we’ll cover Hierarchical Clustering, where we’ll use dendrograms to identify clusters and cluster maps to interpret them. Finally, we’ll use DBSCAN to detect clusters and noise points and evaluate the models using their silhouette score.
We’ll also use DBSCAN and Isolation Forests for anomaly detection, a common application of unsupervised learning models for identifying outliers and anomalous patterns. You’ll learn to tune and interpret the results of each model and visualize the anomalies using pair plots.
Next, we’ll introduce the concept of dimensionality reduction, discuss its benefits for data science, and explore the stages in the data science workflow in which it can be applied. We’ll then cover two popular techniques: Principal Component Analysis, which is great for both feature extraction and data visualization, and t-SNE, which is ideal for data visualization.
Last but not least, we’ll introduce recommendation engines, and you'll practice creating both content-based and collaborative filtering recommenders using techniques such as Cosine Similarity and Singular Value Decomposition.
Throughout the course you'll play the role of an Associate Data Scientist for the HR Analytics team at a software company trying to increase employee retention. Using the skills you learn throughout the course, you'll use Python to segment the employees, visualize the clusters, and recommend next steps to increase retention.

The course explains the complex topic of unsupervised machine learning in a well-structured and step-by-step manner, making it very easy to understand. It provides a clear overview of the subject and highlights the key points, so I never lose sight of what I should be learning at each stage. In addition, the course includes hands-on demonstrations using Python, which makes it valuable not only from a theoretical perspective but also from a practical one. I am extremely satisfied with the course and truly appreciate the consistently high-quality content. Thank you very much!

Great course, and great instructor with a pleasant voice. I feel that some of the longer lessons, like 7 min or more can be broken down into 2 lessons. The course is fast paced and its hard to keep up in those longer lessons, so breaking them up will help with keeping up with the pace.

The attention to detail, intuitive explanation, and real-world use cases make this course one of the best on unsupervised learning. So glad to have the content as a separate course instead of combining it with supervised learning/NLP. Also, I can't remember having this much FUN while taking a course. A must-have in every data scientist's arsenal.

One of the best tutor I can say through my whole studying career. It is so easy to understand, I am not a native english speaker. But I can fully understand everything, she is the best. Hopefully, she will do more courses in the future!!

Very informational and excellent step-by-step approach. Good instructor and speaks very clearly. Worth the money spent strongly recommend this course if you are looking to know more about unsupervised learning. Kudos to Alice. Awesome!

Great, I definitely recommend it. The instructor is knowledgeable about the subject. She explains the topics in detail, without rushing. In my opinion, the most important thing is that she does not use the copy-paste method. She's coding live in front of you. Unfortunately, most instructors in ML, present the codes as course materials and only read ready-made codes on the screen. So in this case, this is not a course; just an e-book. This only exists for ML instructors. I am a developer and developer instructors always code in front of you. React to trainers who offer you ready-made code and just read it on the screen. The software can only be learned by coding with an instructor. That's why software developer Youtubers have millions of subscribers.

I've done all the SQL, Power BI and Python courses from Maven, but this one from Alice is by far my favourite, she explains everything so well and breaks it down into detail, which I really need to get a better understanding. I hope she does more data science courses!

This Udemy course is the best I've ever taken. The step-by-step explanations of the concepts and the code walkthrough make it incredibly easy to grasp. Plus, Alice's voice is so clear and easy to understand, even for someone who isn't a native English speaker.

This course is awesome. Probably the best one I did on this platform. The explanations were very clear and there were also demonstrations as well as projects which really helped. After each section there were practical tips for real world regarding how to use the tools and the ideas presented as well as general discussion where this tools can come into play within the score of data science project as a whole. Overall, great investment and I would definitely purchase all Alice's other courses.

The course is clear and structured very well. The instructor is easy to follow. It's easy to see how this is a best-seller course. Just make sure you have decent specs on your pc though. My PC kept crashing cause one of the models took a significant amount of memory.
