Our take
Based on the ratings of 1,070 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in September 2026. No course pays to be reviewed.
This is a short Python starter from Nick Walter, Phil Ebiner and the Video School team. It runs about 4.5 hours across 48 lectures, and the syllabus covers variables, strings, booleans, if statements, loops, lists, functions, dictionaries, inputs, imports and a first look at classes. Three project lectures of 18 to 27 minutes each sit between the concept sections. The audience is people with no programming background. It is a taster, not a path to job-ready skills.
Reviewers keep coming back to how clear the teaching is. Students call the explanations easy to follow and easy to digest. Two reviewers like the hands-on challenge after each topic, and one prefers those to a quiz. Complaints are mild. One student could not do the Twitter bot project because of recent limits on Twitter's Basic tier. Another wanted a link to the right video for their operating system, and a third says it takes a lot more practice to put the skills to use. Only 8 of 1,070 ratings are two stars.
At 4.5 hours, with no graded quizzes or built-in coding exercises, this works best as a first weekend with Python, not a full education. The last update was in September 2026, so it is current, though the Twitter project shows that app-style lessons age fast. If you want to find out whether programming suits you before committing to a longer course, it is a low-risk place to start. If you already know the basics, skip it and pick something deeper.
Pros
- Clear, easy-to-follow explanations that suit people who have never coded
- A hands-on challenge after each topic, which one reviewer prefers to quizzes
- Three small projects tie the concepts together, including a word counter
- Updated September 2026 and short enough to finish in a weekend
Cons
- Only about 4.5 hours, so it stays at the basics and needs a follow-up course
- Twitter bot project reportedly can't be finished because of Twitter's Basic tier limits
- No quizzes or coding exercises on the platform, so practice is up to the student
Nice, easy to follow course on Python basics. I find Nick is easy to understand and breaks down principles in an easy to digest format.
Suits true beginners. The audience list also welcomes coders from other languages, but the pace stays basic.

Hi! I'm Nick, and I love to code. About five years ago I decided that I wanted to learn to code, but I had limited access to programming resources, and I was getting frustrated with all of the YouTube videos and online tutorials out there. I experimented, struggled, and definitely failed a lot, but I finally got the hang of it, so I decided that I wanted to change the way that people learned to code, and I started teaching. My experience as an online student has directly influenced my teaching style, because I know what it is like to be in your shoes.
When
Apple announced their new programming language, Swift, in 2014, I made my big online teaching debut and created the
internet's first Swift course. Since that time, I have
become a full-time online instructor and I now have courses not only in Swift,
but also in iOS, Android, Django, Kotlin, Python, HTML, Blockchain, etc. I have also created five iOS apps from scratch that are currently live in the App Store and are being used by thousands of users worldwide.
I love sharing my excitement for coding with my students, and I try to make learning as fun and as easy as possible. Thanks for being part of my coding community!

Loved the very simple breakdown of this course. I will say the only feedback I have is that if you don't already have access to a twitter developer account - now to get free access you have to apply, so there is a whole process there, potentially stopping/delaying someone from being able to do the twitterbot project. Other than that, super helpful and I look forward to continue growing my newly learned python skills. Thank you!

The pace is pretty good. At times a bit fast for a beginner but I am able to pause. I'm finding Repl.it to look and act a bit different than what is in the video. Not a huge deal but it does take a bit of extra time to match up what I'm seeing.

Great intro course on Python. It was easy to follow, and Nick did a great job communicating and keeping the lessons fun. It was a great refresher and confidence builder. Better and cheaper than going to the movie theater. Thanks, Nick!

It’s a great course for ones first exposure to Python. I now feel I have an understanding of the basics and a good foundation to build from. I’m looking forward to taking more courses and exploring exciting new career opportunities with this newly acquired skill set!!! Thanks Nick for helping me begin in a new direction!

This python course by Nick Walter was a truly remarkable experience as a 10.5 yr old kid. this course was awesome. Although there is 1 thing I was not okay abt, and that was during the Twitter Bot Project, you see it was just a normal day I was following Nick and when I ran the code it said "invalid syntax" for the 3rd statement I was like its probably a typo by me, but when I triple-checked it was ditto to Nick's code... it still gave an syntax error I could never fix that so I just watched the lecture and finished the course. Nonetheless the course was awesome. Amazing Tutor. And I am looking forward into trying more courses by Nick Walter ..

The course is for people who are really new programmers. If you already know programming you can get all this info from a youtube video explaining the basics of python. But either way, I really enjoy nick's teaching so not even mad.

It is a beginner friendly guide to python programming. Although it will not take you to the master-level once you finished the course but at least you'll get the fundamental of it. Plus, the coach encourage his student to do a research to the program that you wanted to implement. Because, we never knew, our program that we want might already available in github.

Course did exactly what I was hoping i.e. I was looking for a quick intro to Python so that I can determine if I should pursue a more in-depth course. I also wanted to find out if I can understand Python's syntax. Course demystified Python enough to confirm that I can pursue further learnings and take things to the next level :) Cheers Nick

I really enjoyed the course. Decades ago I was a professional COBOL programmer and systems analyst before moving on to management. Your class has enabled me to find the "FUN" that I used to enjoy while programing. Thanks for the easy to understand approach and I hope to follow up with additional Python courses in the future.

You explain this very well and with loud clear voice that is excellent how ever repl.it would not load so I will need to do it on my computer which is fine. You do a very good job a great teacher. I am much older than you and would like to learn more and I hope you will show how to make application in it's completed form ready to use by a user.
