Course Description

Have you ever wanted to try out programming but didn't know where to start? Have you previously tried to learn Swift but got fed up with incomplete YouTube videos and poorly written tutorials? Or are you looking to move your code from Swift 4 to 5?

THEN THIS IS THE COURSE FOR YOU!

In my Swift 5 course, I will walk you through all the essential information you need to write Swift code. I'm a self-taught programmer so I know what it feels like to start from scratch. I care about your learning, but even more importantly... I care about you!

What is Swift?

Swift is a programming language that allows you to write software for iPhones, iPads, Macs, Apple Watches, Apple TVs, desktops, servers, or anything else that runs code! Swift is great for new programmers because it is very intuitive, it continues to evolve as Apple adds new features, it is relatively easy to catch software bugs compared to other languages, and you can see your results immediately by running code in a Playground.

In 2014, Apple announced Swift, along with a 500-page manual explaining how this brand-new language worked. So I immediately jumped into that manual and within three days I created the internet's first Swift course! Since then, Swift has always been my favorite language to teach and I love how it keeps evolving! I have now taught over 200,000 students how to code with Swift, and I'm excited to have you join us. It's going to be a lot of fun :) Also, Swift is open source and so you can now take this course even if you are on a Linux or Windows computer!

Come learn what's new in Swift 5 and gain a new skill! See you inside!

Nick Walter

Hi! I'm Nick, and I love to code. About five years ago I decided that I wanted to learn to code, but I had limited access to programming resources, and I was getting frustrated with all of the YouTube videos and online tutorials out there. I experimented, struggled, and definitely failed a lot, but I finally got the hang of it, so I decided that I wanted to change the way that people learned to code, and I started teaching. My experience as an online student has directly influenced my teaching style, because I know what it is like to be in your shoes.

When Apple announced their new programming language, Swift, in 2014, I made my big online teaching debut and created the internet's first Swift course. Since that time, I have become a full-time online instructor and I now have courses not only in Swift, but also in iOS, Android, Django, Kotlin, Python, HTML, Blockchain, etc. I have also created five iOS apps from scratch that are currently live in the App Store and are being used by thousands of users worldwide.

I love sharing my excitement for coding with my students, and I try to make learning as fun and as easy as possible. Thanks for being part of my coding community!

I have some prior HTML experience and wanted to expand my knowledge and skills. I downloaded Swift as a recommended tool for creating an iPhone app and was completely lost. This instruction gave me a good launching point for future learning and development. Thanks Nick! - Nick

The very basics are explained clearly & precisely, thanks a lot for that. However, the tasks at the end of the section 2 & 3 were demotivating as they required too much extra knowledge in comparison with what had been learnt just before. Section 2 & Section 6 have at least 50% in common & since it's super simple stuff (var, constraints, strings), it's not interesting to watch & repeat after the tutor once again.

As a complete beginner to programming I had attempted to learn coding from other places before & had given up mid-way. This course is perfect for beginners, just enough info to learn the core concepts & gives you confidence to pursue career in coding. Nick is an amazing instructor, loved his teaching style! I had a bunch of questions during the course & he promptly answered all my questions. Thank you for this amazing course, Nick!!

The course was awesome, I learned very much but at the end of the course there were some lessons that were already in the first part of the course. That part felt to me like a small waste of my time and money. I would, however, recommend this course as a starting ground for the future learning.

Really liked Nick's teaching style. The detail and content up to section 5 was excellent. Only thing that stopped the five star for me is that section 6 did have some repeat content from earlier in the course. Nick was really responsive to comments and questions and has a really great teaching style.

This course is for those who have zero programming experience—those who have never written a piece of code at all. As for the project, a lot of comments are saying is a bit hard for a beginner—well it is however, you can google it and then ask Nick. If it's still doesn't make sense, then just continue with the course, it'll make sense once you immerse yourself with everything swift.

This is a great beginner course for Swift 5. My only gripe is when you get to the last section, the content backtracks to the beginning again a bit, so there's not as much app content here as I thought there would be. Other than that, I would highly recommend for people looking to pick up this new tool!

Nick's a fun teacher and does an excellent job breaking down the basic elements of Swift. For users who've taken his course using earlier versions of Swift, this course doesn't offer much new content (there's not a whole lot of newness between Swift v.4 and v.5), but, as it's a newly-crafted course, Nick will sometimes explain things in a slightly different fashion from what you may have heard previously, providing a different angle that will allow you to cement your earlier education.

Excellent course just one part missing on string interpolation. As he recommends in the course, I went out and found the information on my own which was good experience in and of itself but I’d still rather have learned it in the course.

Nick works hard to teach at a very elementary level, and that is a good thing. No course is perfect (Nick is a terrible speller :-) ), but you can tell that he cares about the student. Because of his good qualities as an instructor, I have since signed up for another of his courses. Thanks, Nick.
