Course Description

As we all know, web development moves quickly. With frameworks like Angular 2 and React, we’ve seen a massive move in the industry from the imperative programming paradigm to the functional and reactive paradigms. To be successful in modern development, it’s paramount to have an understanding of how these paradigms work, and the tools that we can use to express them.

This course is an introduction to the core concepts of the reactive programming paradigm. We will use the RxJS (Reactive Extensions for JavaScript) library as a way to explore this mindset and develop an understanding of how to think reactively. Reactive Extensions are used by many companies - from Netflix to Microsoft and even Github!

Did you know that Angular 2 uses Reactive Extensions for its asynchronous operations? If Angular 2 is your goal, then learning RxJS is an absolute must!

Even frameworks that don’t use RxJS directly, such as Facebook’s React, are modeled after this paradigm - and integrate with it flawlessly.

If you plan on moving forward with modern development, reactive programming should be your next step. With the knowledge in this course, you will gain confidence in working with modern frameworks and libraries. Even if you’re not interested in writing web applications, the concepts here apply everywhere. Reactive Extensions itself has many ports to other languages that you can easily move between!

The concepts in this course offer a new way to reason about code - and will apply no matter what language, platform, framework, or library you wish to use! If you want to be on the forefront of modern web development, then this course is your next step!

The material is really good and it I found it really helpful in understanding the reactive paradigm. The only reason I am giving this 3.5 stars is that the material is a bit outdated (at the time of this review RxJS 6 is out while the course uses RxJS 5. Finding the equivalent operators for RxJS6 is not hard though, it's a simple google search). Also, it uses gulp which is deprecated - I had to figure out a way to to the same with webpack instead which took a while.

A great in depth course that really digs into rxjs, why to use it, and how to use it. Even though the course is a bit old, it is still relevant, but you do need to research the new rxjs syntax: e.g. import { ... } from 'rxjs'; import {... } from 'rxjs/operators'; And to use operators: .pipe( (...), (...)) example: import { range } from 'rxjs'; import { filter } from 'rxjs/operators'; range(10, 30) .pipe(filter(n => n%2 === 0)) .subscribe(....)

Good course the tutor although good would be better if he was a little less opinionated and more terse. And not keep his distracting mistakes in, for example in explaining the built in ops one of them didn't work because a lib wasn't installed on his machine - his example fired off questions in my head and he didn't pursue it because he believed it was out of scope - why leave that in there's already enough cognitive load that all learners have to deal with my tip to him and I am a former maths teacher turned IT consultant is to leave it out. Do not keep digressions in.

Very cool intermediate course that helps understanding dev setup, principles behind rx and then dives into the nitty gritty of applying it. In the end it felt dragging going through all those operators with small examples. I couldn't see where this would tie into a real world application. The final example is great, but the instructor doesn't explain it much for someone who isn't experienced with rx. For him it's very easy to read to code and it feels "self-explanatory" but for people new to the topic it's not and they need more guidance.

Very knowledgeable tutor with bags of enthusiasm. Good balance of theory and code with nice use of the old way of approaching a problem alongside the new RxJS way. Setting up the tooling section is included but can be skipped so you can use the down load playground start project instead. I liked the tooling part as this gives more real world practice. Fun course, excellent instructor and exciting technology!

Overall, the course was excellent. I do have two recommendations. 1. At times, the instructor seemed to be "shooting-from-the-hip". A more scripted approach would help to alleviate this. 2. The final example (drag-and-drop), while very good, perhaps needed a more detailed explanation. I think it would have been great if the code was walked through visually, as some people (me included) learn more visually. As the instructor stated, he's very familiar with this type of code. With that said, I'd definitely recommend this course to a friend or colleague.

Amazing instructor, the overview of programming paradigms was completely on point. Cant wait to watch the rest of this course. ...Now I did, and I'm still very happy with the course. The only thing that's missing is tests. However, testing RxJS v5 seems to be problematic at the moment. It is possible, but there is no perfect solution yet. RxJS TestScheduler looks promising, but still has major issues. I hope this course will be updated, once the RxJS community has agreed on a testing method.

It was a nice technical intro and I particularly liked the motivational aspects. But the audio volume is shamefully low. When my interface volume and my computer volume are at 100, I should be able to listen along in the adjacent room. It should be uncomfortably loud sitting in front of the computer. You should amplify and republish at 175%-200% of the current volume. Currently, it's useless to attempt watching while travelling (auto, train, or in flight).

Nelson at 3DBuzz is, in my opinion, the best instructor on Udemy. Not only does he know the subject matter inside and out, but he is easy to listen to and has a great teaching approach. The knowledge gained from this course far exceeds the price paid, which makes this course a fantastic value.

I've been trying to learn RxJS and this course helped me quite a bit. The instructor is very good and the section on operators is gold! Another thing is that this course uses the latest version of RxJS (v5) and the instructor goes into explaining where we should look for docs on this latest version (I was guilty of sometimes checking the wrong docs for v5, which was really confusing). One thing I missed is the use of more practical examples like building a real project, but that's probably content for another course. And make sure you're fairly comfortable with javascript (including ES6 features) or programming in general before jumping in.
