Course Description

“53% of customer loyalty – customers who choose to buy from a company repeatedly – is not the result of the product, company or service, but the behaviours salespeople use when selling.“

CEB – The Corporate Executive Board

“37% of salespeople are consistently effective. What’s more, some of the behaviours of the remaining 63% actually drove down performance.”

Harvard Business Review

“Top performing salespeople are 12 times more productive than an average performer. About one third of the difference is due to technical skill and cognitive ability, while two thirds is due to emotional intelligence.”

Daniel Goleman, Working with Emotional Intelligence

The ability to regulate emotions helps improve perceptions of trustworthiness and integrity – incredibly important attributes for the professional salesperson.

Understanding emotions and those of others helps us to display more empathy, helps us to ask wiser questions, suggest better solutions, and handle objections more effectively.

Salespeople with high levels of emotional intelligence are able to reflect on their own emotions and adjust them to best fit with the customer and the situation that they are dealing with.

They can anticipate and plan sales interactions to help ensure the customer feels valued and confident in dealing with them.

Salespeople with high emotional intelligence are more capable of managing and adapting their own emotions to support and influence the emotions of their customers in a subtle way that brings about positive interactions and builds relationships.

  • L'Oreal sales professionals hired based on their emotional intelligence outperformed their peers by $90,000+ at the end of the first year.

Customers or clients are buyers who purchase based on emotions and justify their choices with logic.  Today, customers are able to justify their decisions online and elsewhere without any input at all from salespeople.  However, good selling is about the connections you make, how well you work through objections, and how confident that you make your customers fell that will help you to make the sale.

Delivering on your promises, maintaining authentic relationships and helping your customers navigate internal disagreements helps to keep them loyal.  Emotional intelligence is the critical competency that underpins all this

This course will help you improve your understanding of emotions and emotional intelligence in selling. Included are a range of practical tools and techniques for applying emotional intelligence in sales interactions with clients and customers.

Customers come in all shapes and sizes. Understanding the nature of each individual customer's needs will improve your sales and ensure optimum customer care.

When you learn skills to respond rather than react to behavioural differences, you conserve energy for what is really important - fulfilling customer's needs.

The course will help you to differentiate the needs of customers and plan strategies to meet those needs.

The course provides a step-by-step approach to applying emotional intelligence principles to your sales process focusing on working with the emotions of your customer and how these influence their social interactions.

The course will help you to develop your skills in asking questions around needs, listening, presenting your product or service and handling objections underpinned with emotional intelligence.

Robin Hills

Hi.  I'm Robin Hills. I am an emotional intelligence coach, trainer and facilitator with over 40 years' business and commercial experience.  I provide knowledge and skills that help people understand themselves and others better.

I have the most comprehensive range of on-line courses based on emotional intelligence in business - not only on Udemy but anywhere on the internet.  I am not teaching any other types of course as I am a specialist in emotional intelligence and it is the focus of my business.

In early 2024, I was presented an Honorary Doctorate in Advanced Studies in Psychology in recognition of my contribution to online Emotional Intelligence training, which started with Udemy back in 2014.

My courses go beyond the fundamental basics of emotional intelligence covering many aspects of how it can be applied in day to day work to lead, grow and develop people in ways that build authentic relationships.

My work takes me into small start-ups through to large corporate multi-nationals and into the Public Sector with financial institutions, government departments and health departments, as well as charities.   This provides me a practical understanding of how emotional intelligence works and applied in the real world, enabling me to keep up to date with relevant issues.

listening to his voice for the entire course was a bit monotone and after a while a bit boring if i am being honest. not the content but the delivery.

By Vivian Alves on 9/2/2026

O conteúdo é excelente, porém a forma de apresentação é monótona, pois há pouco elementos visuais para prender a atenção e desperta mias o interesse

By Devina Borooah on 8/10/2026

Learning something new each day adds up over time. I'm currently taking Sales and Selling with Emotional Intelligence, an engaging course that is helping me enhance my client leadership capabilities and gain practical insights that I can apply directly in my work.

By Luis Cárdenas on 7/20/2026

Good experience. The faster speech option is great, and the videos are short to keep attention spam active. The tips and examples have been useful to see the examples.

By Ernest John Montes on 7/2/2026

Yes. I get to learn how to handle sales objections. I guess being able to show empathy and rapport in selling is really hard. It gave an eye-opening view of how to approach Sales and Selling - things that I am not really interested in to be honest. But I respect people that does this for a living.

By Kevin Warner on 6/17/2026

So far the information is very good and aligned with how I sell. I am looking forward to finding out more and/or improvements I can make. The information provided is a great refresher for courses I have had in the past. It also re-emphasizes many of the traits I am currently utilizing.

By Edyta Kracoń-Barczyńska on 3/20/2026

Knowledge content is pretty good, but visual material are poor and not very engaging. I speed up the voice, but it still sounds a bit monotone and cause a difficulty to focus.

By Valentijn Laan on 3/18/2026

This is such a relief compared to 90% of the udemy courses where it is just a guy from india reading an AI generated script but has no clue about the topic

By Shweta Yadav on 3/10/2026

I found this course very informative and well structured. The content was clear, engaging and relevant. Overall, it was a valuable learning experience.
