Our take
Based on the ratings of 33,446 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in June 2026. No course pays to be reviewed.
Robin Hills, an emotional intelligence coach with over 40 years of business experience, built this as a short standalone course on working well with others in teams. It runs about 3.5 hours across 66 lectures and nine sections, covering the principles and modes of collaboration, trust, behavioral styles and a brief section on mindful meetings. About 75,600 students have taken it. Udemy labels it intermediate, but the requirements say no prior knowledge is needed, only an interest in emotional intelligence and a willingness to do the practical activities.
Reviewers mostly like the ideas. One says the behavioral styles material helped them manage colleagues based on DISC, and another liked the trust formula and its point about self orientation. Others say it clarified emotions at work and how to approach different types of people. The complaints are about delivery. One three star reviewer calls the teaching low energy and boring, and another says the tone is neutral and informational, which made it harder to stay engaged. A third says the concepts are good but need outside reading to understand fully.
About 87 percent of the ratings are four or five stars, and the last update was June 2026, so the material is current. Think of it as a focused primer, not a deep course on emotional intelligence. The description itself says it complements longer courses on the topic. Pick it if you work in cross-functional or project teams and want a practical framework plus a self assessment questionnaire. Skip it if energetic delivery or heavy theory matters more.
Pros
- Behavioral styles questionnaire gives a concrete way to read your own working style
- Trust formula and self orientation idea land well with reviewers
- Short at about 3.5 hours, so it fits around a normal work week
- Updated June 2026, with roughly 87 percent of ratings at four or five stars
Cons
- Delivery is described as low energy and neutral, which some found boring
- One reviewer says some concepts need outside reading to fully understand
- The syllabus lists a Role Play section with no lectures and no minutes
This was a very solid course with useful concepts and practical takeaways around collaboration and emotional intelligence.

Course Description
Collaboration frequently occurs in the workplace where people come together to cooperate and work on a strategic project in order that they can accomplish a common goal. It is simply teamwork taken to a higher level and has become a more productive way of doing things.
Most often collaboration happens within fairly small teams - functional teams, time-limited project teams or cross-functional management teams.
In effective collaboration, all people involved use their emotional intelligence well to balance emotional needs with their thinking, build authentic relationships and make good quality decisions on behalf of the organisation. Whether working with others one-to-one, in small groups or large teams, there is exemplary communication with empathy that engages hearts and minds. This occurs at all levels of the organisation.
This course is about collaborating with others in ways that will help you to communicate more efficiently as you work to understand and work with differences that lead to effective collaboration. In addition, the skills, processes and tools taught in this course can bring value to other aspects of your life.
People often talk about positive and negative emotions. This is not that helpful as emotions cannot really be labelled in that way. The course also covers the myths around positive and negative emotions and why this terminology is not appropriate when working to understand emotions and emotional intelligence in the workplace.
The course covers all aspects of collaborative working focusing on win-win collaboration where everyone benefits. The characteristics, principles and modes of collaboration are examined to give you a much broader insight into getting the best from collaboration.
The course, also, covers trust and how you can build trust as you work together with others.
Behavioural styles are reviewed looking at the strengths and liabilities of each. You get the opportunity to complete a questionnaire that will give you an insight to the behavioural style that you prefer to use with the chance to explore how your style can help and how it can hinder collaboration. Completing this practical activity will enable you to how to use your behavioural preferences and style to better effect when collaborating within a project.
This course is a standalone course for anyone interested in understanding collaboration at work and how to get more from collaborative relationships. It compliments other courses that explore emotional intelligence in more depth.

Robin Hills
Hi. I'm Robin Hills. I am an emotional intelligence coach, trainer and facilitator with over 40 years' business and commercial experience. I provide knowledge and skills that help people understand themselves and others better.
I have the most comprehensive range of on-line courses based on emotional intelligence in business - not only on Udemy but anywhere on the internet. I am not teaching any other types of course as I am a specialist in emotional intelligence and it is the focus of my business.
In early 2024, I was presented an Honorary Doctorate in Advanced Studies in Psychology in recognition of my contribution to online Emotional Intelligence training, which started with Udemy back in 2014.
My courses go beyond the fundamental basics of emotional intelligence covering many aspects of how it can be applied in day to day work to lead, grow and develop people in ways that build authentic relationships.
My work takes me into small start-ups through to large corporate multi-nationals and into the Public Sector with financial institutions, government departments and health departments, as well as charities. This provides me a practical understanding of how emotional intelligence works and applied in the real world, enabling me to keep up to date with relevant issues.

This course guiding me to achieve team's goal rather than looking into own goal which helps to collaborate with other teams to learn and understand the product more effectively.

This was a very solid course with useful concepts and practical takeaways around collaboration and emotional intelligence. The content itself was strong and relevant, but compared to other courses I’ve taken, it felt a bit less engaging. The tone was more neutral and informational, which made it slightly harder to stay fully engaged at times. Overall, still a valuable course and definitely worth taking.

Is a well‑structured learning experience that combines two essential competencies in today’s professional environment: emotional intelligence and effective collaboration. Participants learn concrete techniques for communication, active listening, conflict resolution, and building trust within teams

The delivery is very poor, there is no energy, making it very boring.

Very informative and important for our new generations working with us in the company, very fruitful for everyone but I encourage it more for the youths who are very fresh in life. This type of courses encourages to work & live in a peaceful environment and have a clear mindset of what we want to achieve by being kind with ourselves and everyone around us.

My experience in emotional intelligence and collaboration has helped me better understand my emotions, manage stress, and communicate effectively with colleagues. I have developed stronger teamwork skills, improved my ability to listen and empathize with others, and learned how to handle workplace challenges calmly and professionally. This has enhanced my productivity and working relationships.

I tried to my best possibilities to really do the exercises of this course and if you do that this course really is a 5/5. The videos alone help you a lot too though!
