Our take
Based on the ratings of 29,844 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in November 2017. No course pays to be reviewed.
Ermin Kreponic's course is a 25 hour tour of Kali Linux tooling across 113 lectures: VirtualBox setup, Tor and ProxyChains, Nmap, WPA2 cracking, evil twin access points, SQL injection, brute forcing, reverse shells, and a four hour block on writing a keylogger in C++. About 291,000 students and nearly 30,000 reviews sit behind its 4.5 rating. It is aimed at complete beginners, and reviews back that up. People with no security background say the step by step walkthroughs got them going. The big catch is age. The last update was November 2017, and the syllabus still carries a Fedora 22 section.
Students like that Ermin explains what is happening on screen rather than just typing commands, and some mention that he answers questions in the Q&A when a lab breaks. The low ratings are mostly about age. Reviewers from 2020 onward say the Metasploit section no longer matches current tools, that some methods are five or six years behind, and that time gets wasted hunting for downloads that are no longer needed. Others complain the instructor rambles, hops between Fedora, Windows and Kali, and that the password cracking section feels rushed while other sections run long. Two reviewers say the labs do not translate well outside VirtualBox, and one found Q&A answers on real-world cases vague.
The recommendation is mixed. As an introduction to what the tools are and why they exist, it still works. If you want a course that tracks current Kali releases, check the update dates on its neighbours like Learn Ethical Hacking From Scratch before choosing. Take this one for the concepts and the instructor support, expect to search your way through some broken steps, and skip the retired lectures at the end.
Pros
- Explains what each command is doing on screen, which beginners say helps them follow along
- Covers a wide toolset: Tor, ProxyChains, Nmap, aircrack, SQL injection, reverse shells and a C++ keylogger
- Reviewers say Ermin answers Q&A questions and helps get broken labs working
- Nearly 30,000 reviews at 4.5 stars, with over 14,000 of them five-star
Cons
- Last updated November 2017, so the Metasploit and download steps often no longer match current tools
- Instructor rambles and switches between Fedora, Windows and Kali, which confuses some students
- No quizzes, exercises or projects; some sections run long while password cracking feels rushed
The instructor communicates clearly and seems genuinely helpful. A few bits were outdated (Metasploit section), please consider updating.
Listed as all levels but built for beginners; you only need a wireless card and a machine that can run VirtualBox.

The course is well structured and covers a wide range of essentials topics. The instructor communicates clearly and seems genuinely helpful. A few bits were outdated (Metasploit section), please consider updating. Also the section on cracking passwords felt rushed. Overall a good course that I would recommend.
By TimO on 1/25/2018
Enjoyed the course besides the topic being covered you will also be exposed to some Linux administration on 2 varieties of Linux. Examples worked or could be made to work with help from the QA. Instructor seemed to teaching to those new to the topics. Since this is hacking I suppose the lab environment is the only practical format but that also the greatest cause of confusion, maybe instead of real world examples a thorough explanation of the world outside the LAN would be effective.

I recommend this course to anyone that has the desire to learn functional real-world Ethical Hacking skills from the ground up because all the subjects discussed in each lecture will provide you with detailed easy to understand hacking methods that cover a comprehensive list of pertinent skills that are clearly effective right now.

Informative, Basics that can put you on your path. Instructor, consistently makes mistakes, but provides solutions real time. I appreciate the fact that he troubleshoots during the course in most cases. It helps you understand where the errors exist, why and how to fix them. Overall, excellent explanations that provide useful education opening the doors to the next chapter in the series and providing a basic understanding of what you need to do, learn and how to achieve your goals. Nice work!

The course is well structured the teacher is very clear through the accent. The course is a very good practical intro guide into hacking world for begginer,it explains the most used technical and tool in hacking. My valutation is 4 star because of the course is not updated, infacts many tools that we use in this course are now updated instead of tools used by teacher.
By Ryan Austin on 4/1/2017
The course seems a bit extended for certain subjects and less for others that could have used it. It has really great explanations but most of which are very scattered and hard to interpret at times could use more structure. Was hoping that it would be more with kali linux instead many of the tutorials were done in fedora or windows. Learned a lot but feel like there could have been more or it could have been shortened into less vids. Also seems a bit outdated for this area.

I loved the course end to end. The course was exactly as the title suggested, you could start as an absolute beginner but have substantial knowledge upon completion of the course. One to one question/answer helped me clarified a lot of terms, concepts and techniques. Ermin's easy to understand style, his passion with the subject and patience with silly questions were the major attributes which kept me hooked until I finished. I certainly recommend this course to anyone who is interested. You can take my words, you won't regret it :)
