Course Description

Try Django 1.10 is an introduction to Django version 1.10 by creating a simple, yet robust, URL Shortening Service. This series covers a variety of Django basics as well as Django 1.10 specific material.

Generally the topics will include:

- How we made the Kirr url shortening service
- Django Project Setup
- Class Based Views (& some Function Based Views)
- Models, Model Forms, Forms, Form Validation
- Overriding Model Save Method
- Launching on a Live Server (via Heroku)
- Custom Validation directly on Django Fields
- And More

What Technology you'll learn in the Build a Try Django 1.10 URL Shortening series:
-- Django Framework (version 1.10): a powerful backend framework used by top sites like Instagram and Pinterest. Django makes it easier to have a powerful web application to use for all types of projects. Django is written in Python (and is one of the most popular Python libraries in the world).
-- Bootstrap (version 3.3): a powerful front-end framework used by thousands of sites around the world. Bootstrap makes it easier to have a responsive web application so it looks awesome on any mobile device and any desktop computer.
-- Python 3: One of the top programming languages in the world. Powerful enough for the experts, easy enough for beginners. Why? It uses spaces and line breaks with minimal special characters (like !@#$;*) which means it's closer to English than most programming languages.

All of our tutorials have a simple goal in mind: get you building something real and quickly through step-by-step training.

It all started with an idea. I wanted freedom... badly. Freedom from work, freedom from boredom, and, most of all, the freedom to choose. This simple idea grew to define me; it made me become an entrepreneur.

As I strived to gain freedom, overtime I realized that with everything that you do you can either (1) convince someone, somehow, to do it with you or (2) figure out how to do it yourself.

Due to a lack of financial resources (and probably the ability to convince people to do high quality work for free), I decided to learn. Then learn some more. Then some more. My path of learning website design started a long time ago. And yes, it was out of need not desire. I believed I needed a website for a company that I started. So I learned how to do it. The company died, my skills lived on... and got better and better.

It took me a while after learning web design (html/css) to actually start learning programming (web application, storing "data", user logins, etc). I tinkered with Wordpress, believing it could be a "user" site, but I was mistaken. Sure there are/were hacks for that, but they were hacks/work-arounds and simply not-what-wordpress-was-indended-to-be. Wordpress is for blogs/content. Plain and simple.

If you are a beginner then this course is not for you, will confuse a lot. I have clone the GitHub repository so that I could find the error but that is also not working. If you are very good in Django then only you will be going to understand the course.

Justin Mitchell is so far the best instructor and makes it so so interesting for me to learn concepts. I have also enrolled in the ecommerce django project and the course is rocking cool. Thankyou so much justin. I felt the heroku part is difficult for me to understand.

I like the way you do something and tell why you are doing it. Precise and delivering what is important. So far, I am enjoying the tutorial. I have high hopes from this one after following so many videos on youtube which failed to deliver the WHY and WHAT of Django .

I liked the course overall, but I have to give it 3.5 because the deployment on Heroku is simply outdated (had a lof of troubles with it which I think are hard to overcome by someone who is new to development and networking) and the GitHub repository is not in sync I think, because it's missing some stuff (like the kirr/settings module - it only has the settings file).

Overall the content was awesome, except the font size was too small to view it on limited internet connection. Make Font size a little big so that it can be viewed even on low quality video. Thanks

Such a great course it is. Not just a course which teaches you just the Django basics, but also how to make real world apps with it. Well, I think, that's the main point of this whole course. Short & Effective. Loved it!

Good course - New to Django, But instructor flips from one screen to the next so quick the screen looks like strobe lighting at a disco. Video is rushed and play back at 0.75x speed is more comprehensible. 4/5

the first udemy class that I've finished. it includes many contents and very fast-paced. Clear enough to allow one follow the instruction and construct his/her own app. However, sometimes (and kind of often) no detailed explanations on why we do so are given. Especially the configuration in heroku part really needs more clarification. Some Q&A's reflect the problem as well. I personally don't mind that lack of explanation much, and I did read some documentation to find the 'why' by myself. And I think to some extent it helps me learning django. Overall, a very good learning material for Django beginners.

Great tutorial! Teaching how to use the Django Framework with a practical approach. I learned a lot from that. Sometimes the speaking goes REALLY fast, so i had to go back and listen it again and again to get what is happening, but nothing serious. I enjoyed this course very much.
