Course Description

TypeScript is one of the most loved languages of the moment. How can you learn it properly and go beyond basic examples?

Typescript has reinvented the way we code JavaScript, first of all by adding type safety, but also with many other great features like access modifiers, generics, interfaces, classes, decorators and many others.

Typescript combines the flexibility of modern JavaScript with the power of strongly typed languages like Java or C#, making it a great choice for your full stack app.

Welcome to my course, in which you will learn basic and advanced Typescript and NodeJs by practice. We will not waste much time on presentations or reading the documentation, which you can do yourself, no course needed. Instead we will focus on coding a real, full stack application.

Typescript features covered:

  • Installation and and setup inside a npm project

  • Basic TypeScript compiler options like sourceDir and Target

  • Primitive types, build-in types, advanced types, utility types

  • Any vs unknown vs never

  • Objects, Interfaces and Classes

  • Type aliases, type narrowing optional values, type intersection

  • Enums and exhaustive enums in TypeScript

  • Abstract classes and inheritance

  • Generics and decorators - both old and new (version 2 and 3)

  • Advanced types like conditional types, literal types, mapped types

The Advanced TypeScript environment:

  • Understand how npm packages work by building and using your own npm package with TypeScript

  • Run and analyze TypeScript code on both NodeJs and Browser

  • Deeply understand how module bundlers like WebPack and EsBuild work

Practice sessions with NodeJs, Express and React:

  • Build from scratch a CRUD application with Node, Express and TypeScript - Rest API

  • Understand how Express routing works

  • Understand how Express middleware works

  • Use ZOD for data validation inside a Node Express app

  • Deeply understand how module bundlers like WebPack and EsBuild work

  • Build from scratch a UI app with React and TypeScript

  • Recap for React state, props and hooks

  • Understand how React components work and how to pass data between child/parent components

  • Integrate the Express rest API with React

This course stands out with many advantages and highlights:

  • Concise and with deep respect for your time: only learn what you need. Most of the instructor typing is cut, focusing on why we write a certain way the code.

  • Unitary Typescript course theme - the same NodeJs application, so you don't get bored and get a rewarding sense of completion

  • Experienced and programming active instructor: a great teacher never looses touch with the industry. This is especially true for software development, where the industry is so dynamic. This helps the instructor stay up to date with the best coding guidelines and present you the challenging parts, not the "hello world"

  • GitHub Code diffs - for each lecture - this way you can keep up and quickly get an overview of the lecture, in case you missed something

  • Great visuals - dark background, big font, 1080p resolution

  • Certificate of completion

The best way to learn is by exercise, so I'll see you in class.

There will be code!

Alex Dan — Cloud Architect, Developer & Instructor

With over a decade of hands-on software engineering experience, I've built my career at the intersection of cloud infrastructure, web development, and practical education.

My technical journey started in embedded automotive systems — developing Java-based navigation solutions for major car brands. From there, I moved into cloud engineering, building AWS-powered data pipelines for connected vehicles using Node.js, TypeScript, Lambda, DynamoDB, and a full suite of AWS services. I later worked as a Node.js developer at one of Eastern Europe's largest e-commerce platforms, before transitioning into independent cloud architecture consulting.

Today, as a freelance Cloud Architect, I design and implement scalable cloud solutions across industries — from automotive to enterprise — with a focus on infrastructure reliability, CI/CD automation, and modern serverless architectures.

Parallel to my engineering career, I've been teaching on Udemy since 2017, growing a community of over 300,000 students across 19 courses. My current focus is AI-assisted development — helping developers work smarter with tools like GitHub Copilot, VS Code AI extensions, and agentic coding workflows.

Very knowledegable instructor. Clear and professional. Nice little extra with beautiful section images and jingles. I really enjoyed his real world examples and little jokes here and there about professional life. Highly recommend this! Also enjoyed the github code to follow along better. This being said, I think you should have some backgrounds in coding before. Even if he goes through everything very clear and concise, I found it helped me.

I have purchased several TS courses and this course is absolutely the BEST one by far. This course explains the most complicated part in TS - which is TYPES - in detail. This covers almost all I wanted to know beforehand. One thing to improve is "Modules and module bundling" section, which covers WebPack and ESbuild however nowadays Vite is the people's favorite and it is a mixture of dev server and rollup bundler. If you have time to update, adding vite will be useful. Anyway the coverage rate of this course is amazing.

Definitely, this course is "must have" for all back-end developers, who want to enter to JavaScript family back-end or front-end. There was a great idea to include 2 practice session with TypeScript - one is for back-end, and another one is for front-end. I like to see, that the tutor knows the subject perfect, and wants to teach everyone. 5 stars!

Overall a pretty good course. Instructor does a good job explaining concepts and the links to more information are good to have. Its difficult to balance going to deep when trying to demonstrate full stack so I'd recommend after this digging deeper into the ExpressJS side or the React side to go deeper.

After this course I have very strange fillings: from one side - trainer is good, materials are good, but, from other hand, I have no desire to code along with trainer. I think to code in coding course is the main goal, right? But It feels like I read the TS documentation, but with the voice of trainer. It is good to have such knowledge, but, for example, I don't only what to know what are Decorators, but when and how use them. I miss such kind of information during whole course.

By Richard Hoofring on 9/20/2021

I think the course is overrated. I felt like I learned some typescript but the instructor went fast over most everything and did not take time to explain things clearly. Should probably add some concept and theory lectures before ripping through the code.

This course was very good to find out more about Typescript in a real, contextual use of it. I really appreciated the fact that I have access to the diffs at the end of each lesson. Idea for improvement : add a chapter about how to write tests.

By Lorenzo Lorenzo on 11/4/2020

This course is awesome. Alex is very kind and very active on QA Section. This is a must for a Udemy Course. This is not a "Yet-Another-Introductionary" course on TypeScript, this is course on "how-to use TypeScript for real project". The content is very well presentend and you need to be more than a novice in JavaScript world to get the most awesome experince from the course, but Alex is here and he can help you if you have any doubt! Really A+++ Udemy course.

By Wesley Lyon on 7/24/2020

The course is not perfect, but it makes so much difference. The instructor digs deep into complicated use-cases, as described, the ones you can't understand just by reading the docs. This makes a huge difference and makes me much better prepared for serious coding.
