Writing a Book: Creative Writing Skills for Self-publishing (Udemy.com)

This course is very helpful as even though I understood the concept of writing, there was so much more that I did not understand. This is a great refresher but most important it is a fabulous tool for learning all you can about the different ways your applications can assist you in the writing process. Brian reminds us of why it is important to journal when you begin to develop a concept and how to use it to your benefit. Great course! Kudos and Thank you for this!!

Brian efficiently conveys the writing, editing, and publishing processes. Many sections within the course have helpful projects to get you thinking about how you want to go about editing and publishing. Additionally, some of the section projects invite you to become actively engaged in writing specific prompts. Brian also teaches many useful tips, with my personal favorites coming from his lessons on self-publishing, and even provides feedback if you decide to share your projects on the Q&A board. Since this is a course for beginners, some of the material may not apply to people already well-versed in technology and the writing process. My biggest critique, however, is that some of the lessons contain repetitive information. Despite this, I highly recommend this course to those looking to hone their writing skills and deepen their understanding of how to write a bestseller.

As a complete beginner, there were some very useful take aways, and for the price I paid, under £20, I don't feel too bad. The course started off well and then just went all over the place. It's very piecemeal with HEAVY! duplication/repetition, ultimately wasting valuable time. Hence my low score. When you take out all the duplication/repetition the course is really 6 - 8 hours long. It isn't in a succinct easy to follow order and where there have been updates, the out of date sections have not been removed. I did push through to the end but nothing new came up; I was pretty much tuned out during the last few hours. Ultimately, the course just needs a tidy up because the content does not warrant the 30 hours.

I know I’ve said this in other reviews, but this course is entirely too long. I’m on lecture 200 and something. I feel like many of the lectures are repetitive. I feel that the entire course needs to be updated/condensed. It feels like a lot more than the 30 hours that I had read in the description of the course. At the same time, I do feel like I’ve learned a couple of things. So at least it’s not money wasted.

I LOVED THIS COURSE!!! It was so informative and interesting! Will definitely take on Brian’s advice on how to set up Word for writing a book and how to plot. It helps that Brian’s voice is calming when watching the videos so nothing overwhelmed me. The only downside was that there were repetitive videos but I know it’s needed while talking about fiction and non-fiction. If I knew anyone interested in writing then I’d DEFINITELY recommend this course but sadly I don’t know anyone. I will definitely come back to this course in case I forget anything. Especially if I forget how to set up Word! Five stars for sure! Thank you Brian for a wonderful course!

Exciting and easy to understand with clear voice and speech

I want to learn how to write better and I hope this course will help me do that. It's very engaging.

If I hadn't written before, then the section of outlining would be helpful. However, I learned something new about setting up a navigation window. I also learned how to use Pinterest for research notes.
