Our take

Based on the ratings of 101,497 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in March 2025. No course pays to be reviewed.

This is a short, focused course from Hassan Osman on writing better emails for teams. It runs 23 lectures and about 1.6 hours across four sections, and most lectures cover one tactic: assigning tasks with the 3Ws (who, what, when), writing subject lines, keeping emails to five sentences, replying inline, and handling Reply All. It is aimed at people who email teammates regularly, mostly in US-based workplaces. It is explicitly not about email marketing.

Reviewers mostly describe it as clear and practical. Some say the lessons are easy to follow and that Osman teaches in a concise way. A couple add that it mostly confirms habits they already had, which is both a mild compliment and a mild complaint. One reviewer found it a bit monotonous, with narration that repeats the slides. Another says Outlook has changed since recording, and one wanted the out-of-office lesson to show the actual setup. The sharpest criticism, from a 2-star review, argues the 3Ws leave no room for clarifying questions when a problem has no known answer.

The course was last updated in March 2025, so software screens may look a little off. Of about 101,000 ratings, roughly 91,000 are four or five stars and only about 1,300 are one or two. That is a strong record for something this short. If email is a daily part of your job and you want a fast tune-up, it is an easy yes. Experienced business writers will probably find little that is new.

Best forOffice workers who email teams of five or more and want quick, practical email habits in under two hours.
Skip it ifYou want email marketing help, or a deeper course on business writing beyond email tactics.

Pros

  • Each tactic comes with an example, so it is easy to try the same day
  • Reviewers call the teaching clear and concise, with a straightforward course outline
  • Covers concrete habits: the 3Ws for tasks, subject lines, inline replies, Reply All
  • At about 1.6 hours it fits into a couple of lunch breaks

Cons

  • Narration can feel monotonous and sometimes repeats what is on the slides
  • Last updated March 2025, and one reviewer says Outlook has changed since
  • One reviewer argues the 3Ws approach leaves little room for clarifying questions
Really liked how the email structure was broken down and the actionable information on how to structure emails using the 3 W's
Ryan Rocheleau, a student

Listed for all levels, but it suits working employees who email teams of five or more, mainly in US offices.

Hassan Osman

"Short courses for busy managers"

My name is Hassan Osman and I help busy business leaders and managers work more effectively with their teams.

My focus is on three main 'future of work' areas: managing in virtual & hybrid environments, using AI to improve productivity, and enhancing communication among team members.

I write about those topics in my free weekly newsletters, "Leadership 80/20" and "AI for Leaders."

A little about me:

Most recently, I was SVP of Professional Services at NWN Carousel (a $1B organization focused on enabling hybrid work), leading a team of 200+ project managers and engineers on delivering cloud communication services to our customers.

Previously, I was a Director at Cisco Systems, where I led project and program management teams on delivering complex projects for Cisco's customers.

Prior to Cisco, I was a manager at Ernst & Young, where I analyzed failing projects at Fortune 500 companies, and recommended solutions to fix them.

I was also a research assistant at Harvard University, where I studied issues related to virtual teams.

Delivered exactly what I expected. Some of the tips included in the course are actually something I've been unconsciously doing ever since, and I'm glad it is a good practice!

By Mark McCain on 7/1/2026

So far the course has been clear and good, mostly reinforcing concepts that I try to use when writing e-mails.

estructure from an email using the 3 Ws , using a specific name for the task, define the exact task and the use of a deadline, define a better and clear structure on every email need.

By Emily Walton on 4/22/2026

Interesting, with some thoughtful, intriguing tips and ideas. Some parts were more interesting and useful than others, but I feel like that might have been having already known some of them.

By Ariana Zarate on 4/10/2026

Thanks for sharing the tips - even if I felt like I knew most of them, I still felt it was helpful to share for others who many not know. I also picked up a few new-to-me tips so thank you! Everyone is bound to learn something with this course.

By Jennifer Armstrong on 4/6/2026

This course should be described as being more for beginners. Too much time was focused on things that a business professional already knows. While the refresher is ok, that information should be clearer in the course description to avoid wasting time.

By Emily Wall on 3/17/2026

I have had years of experience with receiving loads of emails so much of the curriculum was a nice refresher. I did appreciate the notes about questions response generation and how to respond to questions in emails.

By LETICIA LIZARDI REYNOSO on 3/5/2026
