Course Description

Welcome to Blues for the Curious Guitarist. This is a complete course to help you fully understand & play real blues guitar. We'll start at the very beginning (assuming that you're starting from scratch) and work our way up to advanced blues. By the end of this course, you'll be chord comping & soloing over several different major & minor blues progressions & songs. You'll have endless chord changing possibilities so that your chords will always be exciting with unlimited soloing choices. You'll learn to properly solo over blues songs in any key, giving you several positions & options for where & how you want to approach your solos.

Any kind of six-string guitar will work well for this course - electric, acoustic, or classical guitar.

You'll learn how to navigate blues theory so you can always have fun & be creative when playing blues guitar.

Every lesson video has a PDF attachment in the "additional resources" tab. These PDFs are the tabs, songs, chords, and text guitar lessons. You can download, save, & print these. Be sure to get all the PDFs.

This course is in five sections:

[Blues Guitar Basics] - Get all of the tools you'll need for the entire course (starting from scratch.)

[Major Blues] - Begin using the tools we've learned to play chords & solo through the major Delta style blues progressions while exploring lots of blues tricks along the way.

[Minor Blues] - Learn the minor style of blues playing, still using the tools we've learned, but with new methods for the minor keys.

[Blues Songs] - Learn old blues songs with chords & soloing. These songs will help you jump start your blues song list and give you choices beyond the standard blues forms.

[Bonus Lessons] - This course is always growing! New content (like more blues turnarounds) is added to this section.

I'm glad you're here - let's begin!

The instructor and the material are just what you might expect from a blues course for the aspiring curious guitarist. All kudos goes to the instructor, very calm and on the spot without too much fluff. I was a beginner/intermediate guitarist and this is the course I've revisited several times and it has elevated both my knowledge and skill level to a decent intermediate blues guitar player. One complaint I do have is the demonstration on the guitar and the room echo. I don't know when and how this was recorded but it sounds like a home recording with a microphone from the laptop or something - I mean he could've really used a plugged-in electro-acoustic just for the playing part, most of the time you hear all sorts of echo and reverb from the room. Otherwise, overall great course!

I've played guitar for a while so I thought this course may be too basic and it was in the beginning but I still learned a lot particularly how to use the arpeggios and scales for soloing. I've been using them incorrectly! Dan's approach is calm and methodical, clear and precise. I fully recommend this course.

I have 3 of Dan's courses so far, and I really like his teaching style. It may not be for everyone, I don't know. But his laid back style really strikes a chord with me, (yes, pun intented.) It's like he's just sitting around talking to his buddy and showing them how to play guitar. If you like that style too, then you'll love Dan's courses.

Excellent instruction by a master teacher---step-by-step---easy to understand---Dan has a steady and even manner of teaching that allows the student to truly grasp each concept---terrific resources---this blues course is great---very comprehensive---you will master each step along the journey---do not hesitate to sign up---I've taken many of Dan's courses-you will learn so much and be able to confidently apply it all!

I usually wait until I have completed at least most of a course before entering a rating but I felt I had to at this stage being only 20% through. Took me a bit to warm up to Dan's speaking style - I put that down to camera shyness (not a criticism) . Lesson 7, Arpeggios, was my "Wow" moment - these are not like the Arpeggios I am used to with Folk guitar, no, these are patterns used for soloing. This is great stuff. Dan starts off with the real basics and works up from there - I jumped through a couple of the early lessons quickly but starting at lesson 5 (Basic Rhythm) onward its pure gold. Already I can feel the onslaught of some major illness that's going to keep me home from work tomorrow so I can soak some more of this up - Cheers

I'm disappointed on how this course tries to rush you out the door without giving explanations. When given they have little to no depth or exercises, and the instructor doenst feel like it to play guitar and demonstrate things, when he does, he plays poorly and sloppy. Felt really bad, because this shows how udemy has a really low quality control, and this kind of content gets spread around.

Wow! Just finished the course and can't say enough good things about Dan's teaching style! If Dan ever produces a course on the Blues standards similar to the examples at the end of this course, I will be first in line to purchase it!

I am so glad that I joined this course. Dan is an excellent teacher and he delivers his wealth of experience in a friendly and relaxed style. Initially I wanted this course to give me a flavour of the Blues and to understand a bit more about it. This course has more than done this. It is so inspirational that I have already recorded and produced my first Blues song. Dan teaches us a wealth of information in this course. Right from the first steps to the more complex bits. It has something to teach everyone, even if you are a complete beginner or are a seasoned guitar player who wants to get into this style of music. Wait a minute, what am I doing writing this? I must get back to Dan's course and play the Blues!

Dans courses are informative, well laid out, full of insight... I have been going through his courses they fit my learning style well and the material is sticking and my playing and understanding has jumped exponentially. I will say I like dabs courses at 1.25x speed, the faster speed works well for me...

This is my second course with Dan I like his teaching approach. So far Dan is laying out the pieces of the puzzle and explaining them and as the course goes on the pieces will start to come together, at the end it will all fit. So far the course has been very good and I am looking to learn more! Dan is a good teacher Thanks, from Jim
