Course Description

Welcome to Fingerstyle for the Curious Guitarist! This is a complete fingerstyle guitar course for all levels of playing & improvising using fingerstyle & fingerpicking technique. Fingerstyle is a widely popular technique for playing guitar and can be used in many styles of music. Guitarists will often study this style alongside regular flatpicking playing.

Any kind of six-string guitar will work well for this course - electric, acoustic, or classical guitar.

The first few lessons will quickly get you up-to-speed with the terminology, such as our string names, reading TAB, and naming our picking fingers. Next, we'll use finger rolls, dyads, & triads (plus combinations of these) to play through chord progressions using only fingerpicking. We'll explore technique after technique of fingerstyle approaches to playing anything & everything without the use of a pick. We'll also work on traditional classical & Spanish techniques using open-handed strumming.

Everything in this course is in TAB form - no music reading required.

Many of these lesson videos have PDF attachments which are the tabs & text lessons. You can download, save, & print these. Be sure to get all the PDFs.

By the end of this course, you'll have all the tools you need to play anything on the guitar using a fingerstyle approach.

I'm glad you're here - let's begin.

Dan Dresnok has his own unique explanation of what to learn for effective fingerpicking. So far the course is very instructional without loading you up with theory. I have several other courses run by Dan and they al represent excellent value.

This course has helped me develop a good technique when it comes to playing acoustic guitar.

I thought the fingerstyle means more than just picking the strings with the fingers instead of a pick. I thing it an ability to play melody and harmony simultaneously.

Its good. I found this course way too basic for my needs though - but I definitely cant knock Dan or it. He is a great teacher. I found his jazz course really refreshing after years of neglect. This fingerstyle course will give many people what they need to start or progress. I would definitely say its fingerstyle beginner and very good for someone who just wants to put down the plectrum for the first time.

The instructor explains topics in a clear way that's easy to understand. The course material provided is also helpful.

Great course for Beginner level fingerstyle players to get the right hand going. However, if you're well experienced and can already play a few songs in fingerstyle, it might not be the most useful course for you. I was hoping to really learn more of advanced techniques, and mainly, music arrangement methods used by guitarists such as Chet Atkins, Tommy Emmanuel, Sungha Jung, etc. but what I actually learnt was more of exercises to get the right hand going in the fingerstyle direction, which I already knew. I would have liked more examples of actually implementing these techniques in real life scenarios and songs to get better understanding and I felt that this part was really missing in the course.

Clear and simple Introduction of a lot of concepts to practice over chord progressions. Good value.

I love this course! This is what I wanted. Dan is an excellent teacher, he explains things really well and the videos also have a computer generated white board with the picking patterns on which are very easy to read and understand. This is exactly what Dan says it is .... a course with loads of techniques you can use to play your guitar without a pick (yes it covers strumming without a pick too!). I have some finger style courses and books but have not got on all that well with them because they seem to involve lots of chord changes often with complex chords that I find difficult to do as I suffer from Arthritis. However for this course does Dan only uses 3 simple chords to demonstrate and then tells us to go and apply the pattern(s) etc to songs or chord progressions that we like/know. This is great because as you are doing chord progressions that are already familiar you do not have to worry about what your fretting hand is doing as long as you remember how many strings you want to play. This means that you can concentrate more on the stuff you actually want to learn i.e. the finger style techniques! Great. I have a particular interest in learning Flamenco guitar and I was delighted to find that Dan has explained some of the techniques in an even better way than other teachers have, especially the Rasqueado. Thank you for this Dan, you have brought finger style to anyone who can play a simple chord progression.
