Course Description
Welcome to Songwriting for the Curious Guitarist! This is a complete course that will turn you into a confident & creative songwriter on your guitar. We'll start at the very beginning, assuming that you don't know anything about songwriting, and teach you how to arrange a song, choose chord changes for each part, create melodies that go with your chords (for singing or soloing), plus your own rhythms & strum patterns, and add your creative mark to your original songs.
This course is an excellent way for you to expand your patterns & formulas for song parts & arrangements, and also go deeper into the possibilities on time changes & modulations, or key changes.
Any kind of six-string guitar will work well for this course - electric, acoustic, or classical guitar.
Songwriting on the guitar is so enjoyable because there are unlimited possibilities for chords, song parts, melodies, solos, lyrics, and your own creative direction. This is why so many popular artists write their songs on the guitar.
Every lesson video in this course has a PDF attachment which are the tabs, chords, and text lessons to use as an additional resource while watching these videos. You can download, save, & print these. Be sure to get all the PDFs.
I'm glad you're here - let's begin.

I'm not a guitar player but piano; however got this for an other perspective and I'm happy I did, quality information, for all levels. Thanks

Wish I had found a class like this one when I first picked up the guitar 15 years ago. It bridges theory with practice. Absolutely amazing and the instructor is a god send

Dan is a master teacher---his courses are terrific! Here's why...they are very comprehensive and easy to understand and are presented step-by-step. He has a steady even manner in his teaching that allows the student to truly grasp each concept. Resources in all the courses are perfect to the material presented. By the end of the course you've learned a great deal and have developed the confidence to apply it all. Over the years I've taken various courses where I was left feeling frustrated in still having confusion regarding course concepts being presented . But consistently with Dan's courses it is the opposite experience. I have those lightbulb 'AHA' moments of "now I get it" because of his superb teaching. This particular songwriting course not only gave me all the tools needed for songwriting but for the first time I have a very clear understanding of intervals. Do not hesitate..Dan's courses rock! (from a nearly 70 year old learner!)

This was a good course. There is a ton of valuable information here. There is lots of music theory (probably more than I wanted - but, to be honest, it's what I needed). I'll probably have to go back and look at some sections again as I hone my songwriting skills, but that's the beauty of these lessons - they're always here when I need them! One tip that helped me throughout this course: the instructor speaks with a very slow mid-western drawl. So, I just bumped up the speed of the lectures to 1.5, then I dropped it back to 1.0 for the music examples. Overall, excellent course with tons of good information.

Dan is easy to follow, non-rushed, and covers all bases in the course he teaches. I like the fact the he keeps his courses up to date. Great Value for the money.

Not much meat on the bones. What are the keys to a good melody for example and why. More music theory.

This course is decent for an absolute beginner. It briefly explains the different parts of a song, and the instructor helps to walk you through each part using chords in the C major and A minor keys on the guitar. If you are looking for more concrete exercises and skill building exercises to improve in this subject, this course is lacking in that area pretty heavily.

I have followed a number of courses made by Dan Dresnok. He is really an excellent teacher. For me this course was very good, because he showed how to write songs as a guitarist. (Other courses start from playing as for instance a pianist). Glad I took this course and I learned some new ideas.

If you have a guitar but do not know how to write a song this course for you. It is really good quality content however the quality of the videos are a bit low. Anyways it is worth your money.

This is an excellent course on songwriting for absolute beginners or people who have not been doing it for all that long. In this course Dan teaches songwriting from the music composition aspect which was the reason why I was so excited doing it. If you are new to guitar and can not read music I think you will cope really well it. If you are a bit further on down the line from that (as am I) then I believe that you will still be able to learn some valuable stuff.
