Guitar Lessons for the Curious Guitarist (Udemy.com)

I finally found someone who's personality I can relate to and enjoy. He's quirky and self-effacing. Some teachers seem like good people, but they are too business-like, as if they are trying to please. They can be a bit false. There are no distractions either. He doesn't do hand-waving, and write stuff across the screen. You can just focus on what he is teaching. And despite the curious choice for the course title, this is a serious, in-depth class.

Dan has a very relaxed style of presenting this comprehensive course. I have previously experienced Dan's strumming and songwriter courses which are excellent. I found out quickly that Dan's knowledge of drumming have helped me develop my continuing sense of rhythm and timing. I know the content of this course will be varied and interesting. Dan is currently challenging my current understanding of rhythm and opening new doors in my overall understanding. Enjoyable at halfway point. Thanks Dan.

Overall good course, covers many useful topics outside of the "what you can find anywhere" things. The explanations are reasonably easy and detailed, pretty personal, although I find it best to combine learning with other sources to get better understanding. Takes longer, but there is really no point in rushing through. The biggest downside is the audio quality. In some places really harsh (good for keeping you awake late at night though ;)). This course motivated me to get more courses from Dan (spoiler: wait for discounts he is giving for his students!). Happy playing!

Uitstekende cursus! Dan Dresnok behandelt alle onderwerpen uitgebreid op een rustig tempo met een oplopende moeilijkheidsgraad van beginner tot meer geavanceerde niveaus. Er is volop gelegenheid om de verworven kennis te oefenen en toe te passen in de praktijk. Kortom, een aanrader! Mij bevalt zijn aanpak dermate goed dat ik een aantal van zijn cursussen heb aangeschaft!

Excellent instructor and course...detailed... clear and concise descriptions ...all encompassing...am an experienced guitarist and started at the beginning and picked up new information from this very comprehensive course...instructor does superb job with explanations and visuals and resources ...very highest recommendations on this wonderful course!

Definitely not for a total beginner, at least not on its own. I have followed the course for about a month, where I was able to complete 8 lectures. I played every day for at least 30 minutes. And let me tell you: This is not fun. It feels like you are doing nothing but technique. I haven't played anything that remotely resembles a song, because it just doesn't appear. I was stuck on the lecture for open chords for at least two weeks until I was able to play them and switch between them. All I did was play those four chord progressions the instructor gave. I am a complete beginner, I have never played an instrument nor do I have a friend who does. Maybe this is what the course wants to be, but this is not clear to me, because the course is advertised for complete beginners. It is correctly named though, you really need to be curious to make it through this course. I and I imagine most other beginners, want to have a little bit more fun. Here a some other complaints: The instructor constantly mentions stuff that a way beyond what on would know from just listening to the course material so far. Here is an example: In lesson 9 he assumes pre-existing knowledge about scales. He never explains what a scale is. I had to look that up. And even then he mentions different scales likes mixolydian without explaining them. It feels like, he jumps from some very basic concept to something more advanced all the time. Another really annoying habit is that he repeats the same explanation in the exact same wording multiple times. This is an online course. If I didn't get it, I can skip backwards.

This goes too fast, first he gives you some simple chords and then expects you to do inversions of them. I know music theory and there is no good overview of any kind of theory. I really really hate how this guy winks at you every time he finishes a sentence, very annoying. Edit: Ive come back to this course after a couple of years and I now realize this is an intermediate level course. Its not enough to know basic music theory to follow what he is saying. So at the level I am at now I am getting something out of this course. So warning to anyone who is a beginner, you will hate this course. I also got this guys jazz guitar course which is very good. One thing that bothers me about his courses is that he only uses tabs to show chords and scales which is pretty useless unless you have memorized all the notes on the fretboard. This course could be so much better if it uses sheet music.

I wanted to learn guitar way too fast jumping the basics...after 5 years realised I was getting nowhere...I simply forget everything I learn since nothing made sense...I just tried to memorise everything to no avail...this teacher makes guitar learning much more fun and even though I'm starting from scratch it feels like I'm way more advanced just in my first 6 lessons compared to my 5 years learning from YouTube. I've bought 3 other programs from the same teacher aswel.......for the first time I'm convinced my goals will be met in no time...this is my guy!

The "advanced" and "world class" sections are intermediate at best. This course is fine for beginners and intermediate. His explanations on sus chords is incorrect. When reading sheet music, if it says play a sus, that does not mean it's up to you to choose to play a sus 2 or a sus 4. It means to play a sus4 as a sus4 is far more commonly used, so it needs not to be specified, just like a major chord needs not be specified as it more commonly used than any other chord. If a sus2 is required to be played, it will be specified as such. He should not be spreading misinformation. His presentations are not professional and seems unprepared as he stumbles to figure things out on the spot...such as how to play a D add 4 chord. It just makes watching the course slow and boring. He should re-film everything and make everything shorter and to the point and fix the volume levels between the guitar and his voice.

the best instructor I have used He explains everything clearly. Course is still going well, I now have a better understanding of the guitar which is starting to show me how all the pieces come together, so far the first half has been great I am looking forward to the 2nd half. I have finished the coarse Dan is a great teacher I got alot from this coarse and I am going to take more lessons that Dan teaches. Thanks for the info mt guitar playing thanks you too.
