Course Description

Build a Tinder like app in Android with Kotlin, Jetpack Compose and Firebase.

Social media now has the largest user base ever.

Have you ever thought about owning your own dating app similar to Tinder? Now you can

This course teaches you exactly how to build a Tinder like app, complete with user accounts, registration, profiles, swipes, matches, conversations and more.

In this course we will build an example application with a lot of features similar to an actual dating swipe app that's out on the market right now.

We will use Firebase for backend storage and we will learn how to connect and communicate with the backend to show the most up to date information.

More features than any Tinder clone app out there.

We will build several Tinder features like:

  • User accounts with signup and login

  • User registration with lots of personalizable information

  • Swipes left and right and matches

  • User profiles

  • User details screen and potential enhancements

  • Match list view

  • Live chat functionality

  • Error handling

For backend development we will use:

  • Firebase Authentication for user management

  • Firebase Firestore for database access

  • Firebase storage for image storage in the backend

I will show you step by step how to build an Android app in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose similar to Tinder, how to program it and what each step means. It's never been easier to have your own dating app.

In just one lesson, we've got a working skeleton - great, I love it. Absolutely, it has simple and cleverly designed content.

The code is obsolete (in the dependencies) and the code is not explained.

This course is outdated, update it according to latest version of Android Studio to get 5 star rating

By Osvaldo Arellano on 2/3/2024

Great! Explains everything in detail! Also, one thing I would like to see is handling errors from the console and gradle. I got an error I dont know how to fix from my database connection.

By Gavin Soady on 1/13/2024

Explanation is quite clear, but it's going through demonstration very fast. You are not really learning much going through the code as the demonstration is a WHAT he's doing rather than a WHY he's doing it. To get the most from this you would be better off just downloading the code and tinkering with it yourself - if you do this you will need to go through the firebase section as you will need to connect the App to your OWN firebase connection for Authentication and database.

My biggest issue is the low video quality. 720p is insufficient as it is very blurry. The videos should be in 1080p. The author shows a lot of content, but not a lot of depth as the explanations were lacking. I think the author should provide a deeper explanation of what he is doing. Otherwise, it is "we put this thing here and then update this other thing". In some areas, I experienced errors which the author didn't catch or address. While my having to fix the bugs the author didn't catch helps me be a good developer in the long run, the course as is, is out of date (see my Q&A). Overall, I felt like a developed something, but did not necessarily understand how it worked or why it worked. I still have to go back and figure all that out myself.
