Efficient course. I was expecting a bit more in-depth explanation, especially regarding the commands used. Similar lessons can be found on YouTube, but the key difference with Udemy is the expectation of more detailed and structured content. That said, the course does offer step-by-step configuration, which I appreciated. I’m giving it 4 stars; for 5 stars, I would have liked more comprehensive explanations.

Instructor was clear and concise, when he did make a slip up, he smoothly corrected as it can be things some people get confused with like using the term update instead of upgrade in the apt command, if you switch between Linux variants and use YUM and APT it is an easy mistake, but he also added a learning point from it which was a nice touch leaving it in the lecture to provide a bonus tip.

Took this one out of curiosity, turns out it’s surprisingly easy to set up a web server, if my computer was working and I’d wanted to host a portfolio or some other website I would be tempted to try it myself rather than pay for all the hosting etc. Leads to more questions as to how you would need to upgrade your computer if you wanted to host websites with more traffic etc but the tutorials itself were super relatable and easy to understand/follow 10/10 for the instructor.

Helped me get started in an environment I knew nothing about 30 days ago. I ran through the videos once more to complete the content and disagree with some steps now, like using chmod 777 on the www folder, without providing further context about permissions? Well, in the end I'm still comfortable leaving further research and thinking up to the end users. Thanks for the lessons.

I found the course to deliver on what is said and is concise and to the point which I like. It covered it section it said it would. I would like to have seen alternative ways to do the same thing, example if during install of linux i did not select all the services how would I install it after the linux install is complete. You will learn what it says it you will and I liked the wordpress optional section which gives you a head start into something like wordpress.

Good job Paul, I have been overwhelmed by the set-ups for LAMP that I've found out on the web and yours was very simple and straight forward. The only critique I had was with SAMBA where it needed "browseable = yes and guest ok = yes" commands which I saw that you've answered a few times already in the Q&A. I now have more confidence in this field, thanks very much!

It's a good course on how to setup a Ubuntu Server with the Oracle Virtual Machine. I had some problems with the sbm.conf file since I couldn't Access the IP-address without adding: guest ok = yes browseable = yes below the rest of the [Web Server]-input in the course about setting up samba. But the rest of the course was fantastic - short and effective. Thanks Paul!

Very nice course; just stopped short of being complete. I would have liked ending up with a live website incorporating a live domain name. It probably would have only added one lecture (?). I would also have liked to know how to incorporate the mysql database into a non-wordpress site. For instance, is there a Linux version of phpmyadmin? The title of the course led me to believe I would be hosting a website...not just a lab. The lab is great, though.

Learning new stuff. Wanted to have a web server on my own desktop for a while, never knew all steps to do it. Looking forward to finishing this course. Couple of questions. I also have Oracle Glassfish Server and mySql already installed on my desktop for Java EE development. Will Glassfish also work as a webserver. Should I make it virtual?
