Course Description

Why learn Clojure

Clojure is a general purpose, Java inspired, functional programming language.

In 2019, the popular site StackOverflow rated Clojure as the highest paying programming language in the world, and second highest in the United States.

Many big players like LinkedIn, Cisco, CitiGroup etc use Clojure as one of their main languages.

This course teaches you:

  • to install the Clojure environment on a PC or Mac

  • the language basics like

    • functions

    • data types

    • variables

    • etc

  • the fundamentals of

    • loops

    • sequences

    • exception handling

    • etc

  • advanced topics such as

    • namespaces

    • agents

    • reference values

    • etc

  • practical applications of all studied concepts

  • plenty of coding challenges

We will apply everything we learned through coding small applications to solidify what we are studying.

This course opens up many opportunities to work in a niche market, where your skills will be highly values by employers. There is a huge shortage of Clojure skills, and you can claim the top spot.

Clojure is also a fun language to learn. Being a LISP language, it makes it much easier to write code, with Clojure code being on average much smaller than Java or JavaScript. It's a great skill to have if you're looking to expand your programming tool belt.

Sign up today and let's start learning Clojure together.

The course was very useful for me as I didn't know anything about it. Of course, there's still a long way to go, but the foundation created by this course was very good. Thanks Stefan.

While I found it easy to follow this course, I still think I learned quite a lot! Good balance between simplicity and covering the most important topics. Looking forward to further exploration of clojure!

It was a great and quick introduction to the language. Set up was a little outdated with intellij given it's new UI for all their IDEs but I appreciate that's something that will be hard to keep up with. There were some issues with the IDE not being happy with the use of `def` for locally scoped variables in a function and looking into this, the use of `let` is preferred for that. It still worked - it just gave warnings and advice I found online suggested *not* to do that. The challenges set out were complex enough to feel like you've achieved something and not so difficult that it's overwhelming. A great course to get introduced to the language!

I think the intro notes need to be updated as opening the project from IntelliJ and running the repl is not exactly clear. Having said that, It was consise and clear and helped me on my way

Pretty good course for beginners. Takes you through installation and setup and get the development environment running. Tutorials are explained in good details and in clear language. Easy to understand. Job well done!!

As the title of the course states, it is intended for beginners who never had contact with the language, and it reaches its goal. The content is organized, the explanations and examples of the concepts are clear, but not enough in-depth to have more than a shallow understanding of the explained topics. The exercises, video, and sound could be better but deliver the minimum necessary. In the end, I recommend this content to anyone that wants a first glimpse into Clojure and its concepts.

The content is good, high quality. But the font size used in all the course is too small, watching this course on a mobile device or on a small laptop is really difficult.

By Myreille Abaya on 5/25/2020

I barely knew anything about Clojure so this course really helped me become familiar with the basics and learn the foundation. I like how you discussed the various data types individually, which is what I was looking for in a course. A couple feedback I have to give is to make your coding font larger or clearer as it's quite hard for me to read. I also would like to see another course on practical applications like building a website using Clojure.

By Gloria Laoye on 1/15/2020

The course was very useful. I have prior programming experience so it was easy for me to understand, but I expect it this would be much more difficult for a complete programming beginner. Also it would have been helpful if the code was zoomed in a bit more. I found myself straining a couple times. Overall very good course for people who are new to clojure, and who have some experience coding in other languages :)

By Wayne Caldwell on 11/19/2019

Good course, some of the challenges took a little digger deeping than I thought to come together, which is a good thing. It whets the appetite to move on to some more of the clojure fundamentals
