Communication Skill For Business Communication & Effective Communication In Workplace & Relationships.

Created by: Peter Alkema

Last updated August 2026

Our take

Based on the ratings of 2,730 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in August 2026. No course pays to be reviewed.

Peter Alkema teaches this one with co-instructor Salil Dhawan, and it covers communication from the ground up. It runs about 16 hours across 178 lectures and 20 sections. The first half is concepts: the 7 C's, noise in communication, classic models from Aristotle to Berlo, and some academic linguistics. The back half turns practical, with long sections on emails and group messaging, business presentations and communicating as a manager. It is pitched at everyone, but it suits working adults more than people after a quick fix.

Students rate it well. Of 2,730 reviews, 1,378 are five stars and 1,054 are four, while only 37 are one or two stars. Reviewers call the content broad and useful for business communication, and one says the coaches deliver it very well. Another found the strategies clear and easy to apply at work and at home. The complaints are mild. One reviewer found the course too long to retain, another disliked plain bullet-point slides, and a third said some material felt dated. There are no quizzes or graded tasks, so practice is up to the student.

It was last updated in August 2026, which helps for the sections on Teams, Zoom, remote work and AI. If you want a single course that touches most workplace communication topics, it fits well. If you only need presentations or email, pick those sections and skip the theory.

Best forWorkplace learners who want one broad course covering emails, presentations, meetings and manager communication.
Skip it ifYou want hands-on speaking practice, graded exercises or a short, tightly focused course on one skill.

Pros

  • Dedicated sections on emails, presentations, meetings and manager communication
  • Comes with a 100+ page workbook to follow along with and keep
  • Updated August 2026, with sections on Teams, Zoom, remote work and AI
  • Reviewers call the strategies clear and easy to apply at work and at home

Cons

  • About 16 hours is a lot, and one reviewer said the length made it hard to retain
  • No quizzes or graded exercises, so there is little built-in practice
  • Plain bullet-point slides and some dated material, according to reviewers
I must say it was an incredibly valuable experience. The instructor provided clear and practical strategies that I can easily apply to improve both my personal and professional communication.
Ang Lee Ling Sharon, a student

Listed for all levels with no prerequisites. Fine for beginners and working adults, though the model theory can feel academic.

In previous years, I have outlined four types of communication, but I believe there are actually five types of communication: verbal, non-verbal, written, listening, and visual.

By Rowland Ugeh on 5/22/2023

This is just the beginning of the course and we have just been introduced to 7c in communication. This course is really an eye opener and very educating. I have learnt a lots from this learning.

By Dan Bolos on 5/19/2023

Overall I appreciate the content of this course and learnings I've taken. Section 17 - Webinar I found it as being repetitive in terms of ideas shared. You can save almost 2 hours of learning skipping this, and focus on other courses.

By Julian Fuchs on 4/26/2023

Used extremely bad presentation slides. Standard PP slides with just boring bullets

By Anonymized User on 3/25/2023

The course is detailed and I learned a lot of things about communication and their different ways. Thanks to Peter and Sahil for this amazing content. The detailed explanation of everything is just awesome.

By TJ Walker on 1/6/2023

Peter and Salil really know there stuff. I especially appreciate their insights into Aristotle's communication philosophies as well as their examination into what makes modern great speakers great.
