Course Description

Making 3D games can seem overwhelming at first — but with Godot 4, it’s more accessible than ever.

This course will guide you through the entire process of building 3D games in Godot 4, from the very foundations to advanced systems used in professional projects.

Along the way, you’ll create five complete 3D games, each designed to teach you new skills and techniques:

  • Sky Pogo – an endless jumper where you’ll learn physics, animation, UI, and persistence.

  • Brick Stacker – a physics-based stacking game, covering rigidbodies, lighting, and progressive difficulty.

  • Granny’s Capers – a full 3D platformer with enemies, animation trees, particles, and custom editor tools.

  • Space Ace – an endless space shooter with visual shaders, object pooling, the strategy pattern, and immersive sound.

  • Quack Lite – a complete FPS inspired by Quake, featuring modular AI with finite state machines, a flexible weapon system, multiple enemy types, powerful effects, and performance optimization.

We’ll also take focused detours into core skills like GDScript programming, Godot’s scene and node system, and input handling, so you can approach each project with confidence.

By the end, you’ll not only know how to make games in Godot 4 — you’ll have a toolkit of reusable patterns, scalable systems, and visual effects that you can bring into your own projects.

Whether you’re brand new to 3D or coming from 2D development, this course will give you the skills to create complete, polished games from scratch!

I'm not usually fussed about leaving reviews, but the amount of times Richard has updated this and his 2D course is quite crazy. He completely reworks entire sections and has improved upon his teaching style and architecture since I first started following him. I've done quite a few Godot and Udemy courses, but in comparing Richard's courses to others, I think it's quite unrealistic to expect a comparable level of quality. These courses aren't just about pumping out a few basic games, but rather teaching the very vital, and difficult, design patterns and structure that *programmers* should follow in order to build a well-designed video game, and not some copy-paste shovelware slop. If you are interested in making video games, Richard's courses are very good courses to take. Just take it slow, document your findings (I use Obsidian) and make an effort to understand the decisions and architecture that Richard has put in place. If you wish to be an actual programmer and problem-solver, you need to make you brain big by tackling difficult challenges, not outsourcing to an LLM. This course (or his 2D course) is a good start to doing so.

I am only about 25% done with the course, and so far I've learned so much more than I expected! I bought the course to learn Godot, while having years of experience in Blender and just some in Unity. While having been tought a little C# in other courses, but not enough to feel comfortable with it, I still entered this course with a little bit of knowledge in my back pocket. As of right now, I'm just about halfway through only the first project, and already I feel like I've learned more about coding and game engine than I have been tought in other courses previously. Richard is a brilliant teacher with a lot of previous experience, and his ability to teach others shines in this course. He keeps the course updated with each Godot update released, and shows that he truly cares about the quality of his courses. I highly recommend everyone who's looking to get into Godot, to look into this course. Even without previous experience with 3D rendering or coding, you will be able to take and learn from this course. Worth every penny.

Over my 1-2 years of trying to learn godot and game development I have watched and followed through loads of tutorial videos and purchased many courses/course bundles on learning how to develop in godot, and the absolute best ones have been this and Richard's 2d Godot course. I cannot recommend these courses enough, absolutely the best way to learn godot and designing games in general. Very in depth on explaining what the different tools and approaches there are inside godot, unlike almost all the other courses I've gone through I feel like I am actually learning godot, not just blindly following a set of instructions. Very good instructor, he goes above and beyond on updating the course to stay current and responding to any problems or questions you may have. This (and the 2D course) is my go to recommendation for learning godot, without a doubt!

This course is the most fun I've had learning, ever. I'm a web developer, so it's always frustrating to start a game dev course (and I've tried so many, for Godot and Unity), as they're all either lack depth, structure or architectural patterns that you look for. I've done a bit of Richard's 2D course which left me wanting more, the problem was that it was 2D :) Let me be clear - this is not only the best Godot course out there, it is the best game dev course out there, and probably one of the best courses that are on this platform. It really has it all, and by itself provides so much motivation to keep going. If you're looking for something structured that goes deep, explaining the details, really, this is it. Play around with things as you go along, break stuff, dive even deeper with google and a chatbot, you'll have a blast! So far this is an easy 5/5, and I doubt that'll change as I progress further. Thank you Richard for this - and I'm definitely looking forward to your future courses, if you plan to release any.

I'm sure by the time I've finished I'll have learned a whole lot. Richard is clearly an experienced game dev. The follow-along style works okay, but it's not always clear when to stop following along because he's just demonstrating something, and when it's actually code we'll need. My main criticism is he loses the flow with excessive verbosity. It could be more focused and concise. If you want to convey a single idea, stick to that idea, don't gabble for ten minutes interrupting yourself with every other thought that comes into mind while speaking.

I loved this course, it's what you need to have a general overview of 3D in Godot. Of course, there are tutorials on YouTube, but this course is well structured, which makes the learning process easier. The only thing I didn't like is that the instructor does not follow Godot naming convention. That's not a big issue, but I think that if you plan a course for starters, you should follow conventions for those people who have neved coded. This course is super complete and it can't contain everything, but there are some things I would also appreaciate: - Build/moving in a grid, and A*. - Dialog system (for quests and those things) - Theme resources for UI (though theme overrides are used). - Multiple languages But as I already said, this course is very complete and can't cover everything. You will likely be able to learn those after it. I also have the feeling that this course transmits the message that nodes are the solution to everything. I don't think that's the case and even Godot docs has an article about: "When and how to avoid using nodes for everything". There are some strategies that could have been implemented without so many nodes, but well... if it works and performance is not an issue, then it might not be so important. Sometimes is just a personal choice.

I cannot say enough about this course! it was absolutley fantastic! I took up game dev as a hobby. I programmed professionally in the 80s in Clipper, Basic and DBase III, coded some text adventures in C64 BASIC and built my own .WADs in the original Doom. but at the time I coudn't get my head around C# so I never pursued game development. Fast forward 40 years and I am a lifelong RPG gamer with thousands of hours invested in various games. I see a youtube turorial about Unity and it piques my interest. I download and start playing but Unity was too bloated and my son told me about Godot and I started watching tutorial and I actually started with pixel art in 2D, making the sprites and really playing with it, but I needed the 3D immersion. So, I got to the point where I had piecemeal modules all bolted together at different angels. it worked but was't pretty and wasn't easy to add to. This course put it all together for me. there where so many AHA!! moments that I can't name them all. I really want to thank Richard for working through the project methodically and reinforcing the prior lessons in a way that made sense. I can now say that I am 100% comfortable with shaders, inheirentance and FSMs as well as concept of the "base" scene which I really didn't understand until this course. You said it many time during the course Richard, and I want to say it to you; Well Done! and a heartfelt thank you and a round of applause for you and your team (Martyna) for producing such a well thought out, informative and VERY entertaining course. I look forward to using my newfound knowledge in my upcoming project(s). Best Regards, Ken

From the perspective of a complete beginner, there are instances where things could be explained in a less confusing manner. However, what makes those instances confusing will later evolve into a deeper understanding, once you progressed a bit and refer back to those foundational lessons. I constantly have to remind myself that I am learning to communicate with a calculator on steroids, and that aint exactly an easy thing to do. The teacher is easy to listen to for hours and hours. He is clearly passionate. He is good at explaining. He speaks clearly, and has invested in a proper mic (thank you, so much). He is committed to keeping the course up to date. He clearly wants you to understand what you're doing, and not just follow along mindlessly. It's all very commendable. This is gold, highly recommended.
