Course Description
Upd: Works in Godot 4.5!
Welcome to the Dedicated Server Multiplayer First Person Shooter course.
In this course, you'll learn how to build your very own multiplayer game using a dedicated server and client architecture, focusing on a casual 4v4 first-person shooter format.
This is an intermediate-level course, so while I recommend you have a basic understanding of Godot, nodes, and GDScript, I'll guide you step-by-step through everything else you need to know.
Here's what you’ll master by the end:
-Setting up a dedicated server and connecting clients
-Creating efficient communication between server and clients
-Hosting servers and configuring port forwarding
-Implementing matchmaking and multiple lobbies per server
-Applying networked interpolation, lag compensation for smoother gameplay
-Building a weapon system, including pistol, SMG, and shotgun, with raycasts
-Adding throwable grenades and explosions
-Health and damage systems
-Enhancing the experience with dynamic visual effects
-Designing a scoreboard
-Integrating 2D elements within a 3D environment
-Creating networked audio
-And much more!
By the end of this course, you’ll be equipped to either create your own multiplayer game or expand on the project we develop together. I'm excited to publish a new course with a new topic. If you're interested in singleplayer survival games, check my other course!
See you in the course!

This has so far been a great experience. I would highly recommend anyone with idea of a multiplayer 3D game to take this course. It motivated me to learn a lot more about video-games and networking in general due to the methods used and how the math comes to play. I've gotten to the point where I can pause the lecture and try things myself before continuing and its cool to see how far I've come in such a short amount of time. It truly is an intermediate course. If you're struggling to understand anything, it's probably because you haven't understood any basics about Godot and/or game development and should look for a more beginner friendly course before taking this one!

I think overall this was a pretty great course to learn how to build the foundations for a server/lobby based multiplayer game in Godot! I'm still a beginner as a game dev, so this course was probably a little advanced for me, but it was really intriguing to get to know how some of this server stuff works even though I didn't quite wrap my head around everything. This was definitely more of a "follow along" course, rather than something that provides deep explanations for why everything works the way that it does, but I think this is targeted for people with a little bit more experience in Godot than I am. I would still say this is a pretty good follow-up to Eerik's beginner survival game course! Please take that before doing this one to get more familiar with how Godot works. Also side note, congrats on the game dev job you got Eerik, I saw you mention that in one of the questions on here. Would love more courses like that open world RPG you mentioned once you have the time. Maybe something involving more intermediate-level practices, such as using Composition. Learning how to use the systems like the Event/SignalBus in your first course was very helpful. Take care!

Very clearly explained, thank you very much. You can easily adapt it to other multiplayer games. Highly recommended.

This was a fantastic course. The structure is similar to the survival course this dev also offers. I did both and combined them into one game. Fantastic learning experience. I would be interested in a RTS course like this if you made it.

Overall, it was pretty good. I usually only stick to GameDev.tv courses on this platform so I was missing some structure that I am familiar with. I think it would be great to have some challenges in every lesson that you leave time for us to do ourselves. It felt like "follow the leader" most of the time but I can appreciate that it is an intermediate course and that is perfectly fine in a lot of cases. I was able to understand the mental model behind developing for dedicated servers and I will be following along to see what other courses you post int the future. Thanks!

I've taken around a hundred courses (between Udemy, GDTV, and Skillshare) and this Instructor is unusually on-point. - He reviewed the content for any audio issues or mistakes and immediately addresses them with the viewer. - When he makes typos ("lobbu" instead of "lobby"), he actually cuts out the typo fix instead of making you watch him fix a typo. Similar jump-cuts for launching clients and organizing the windows. He cares about keeping the course lean. ..and above all, the content is great. Above expectations. Rare.

There is nothing like this on internet so its rare knowledge sharing. Only thing I don't like is when you do scene inheritance (right click -> inherit from scene). It seems finnicky and creates confusion. Also, it is very Godot specific. When you look at a scene there is no way to know if its inherited unless you hover your mouse over it. Class inheritence is enough and for everything else composition is enough. Everything else in course is top-notch. I'm coming here after completing the 3D-Surviror course from same instructor.
