Kaan Alpar

Hi there, I'm Kaan and I'm an independent game developer. I have been making games for over 10 years. I studied at Japan Electronics College in Tokyo learning all about computer science.

I taught tens of thousands of beginners game development and programming principles. I know exactly how you feel and what you are looking for and I try to make it so that my courses are the perfect fit for you. I remember my own struggles during my learning journey and I try to use those memories as reference points for my lectures.

Making games is my PASSION. I'm in love with the whole process of creating a game, from idea to the end product.

I decided to become a Udemy instructor in order to share my knowledge with people like you. I believe that the best people on this planet are the ones that share their knowledge with others. I know that I wouldn't have learned so much without the help of others.

And now I'm here for you! I hope to see you in one of my classes! :)

The course has been a wonderful journey to listen and follow along to. The instructor and his equipment has been clear and concise unlike some other Udemy instructors of whom have muddy or lower quality recording materials. He teaches the basics and fundamentals of the Godot Engine well and I am looking forward to his other course that I believe is for the Intermediate level once I get a few of my own games be made under my belt with the knowledge I was taught here. Honestly I cannot ask for more from a beginner level course on the Godot Engine 4.

A solid series. These were my first tutorials and it definitely familiarized me with Godot. We started with a simpler game and worked our way up to more complex games 1-3. It was a natural progression in knowledge. Their GameDev.tv group seems supportive and nice too, which added half a star for me. When I make a small game to start, I might share and partake in the community too.

Overall, very pleased with the course and the instructor who is clear and easy to understand (I watched at 1.75x), the three games offer some basic designs that could be expanded and overall he taught from the emphasis that a complete beginner could understand with zero coding experience and did teach some things that are good practice going forwards. The instructor is clearly a competent game programmer and familiar with the Godot engine, and I suspect some other engines too. He did a good job of explaining some of the concepts specific to Godot that can be confusing for the beginner and for the most part tried to get the student to attempt to do things with the knowledge they had mostly which encourages you to start thinking for yourself without being hand-held the entire time... As several others have commented, the only minor issue is really with the title for the course, since this is an excellent introduction, but not particularly complete for making games since there is no coverage of enemy AI, polish (e.g., basic shader flash effect) etc. However, this is a very comprehensive start and I think it would be too much to expect a beginner course with no prior coding knowledge to be able to achieve too much more without becoming too large whereby students would forget concepts learnt earlier on.

PLEASE READ So here's some context about myself before I begin this review: I am already a programmer by trade with 2 years of experience, and I currently program in JS/Go for a job. I went to school for an Associate's Degree in CS. So I already had some programming experience prior to starting this course. I've always wanted to make my own game so I chose Godot instead of Unity/GameMaker because it's open source and that naturally drew me into its ecosystem. With that out of the way, I think that this course is really great for people who already have some programming experience, but for those that don't, I don't recommend diving into this course before learning some basic programming concepts. I would recommend at least learning some Python(because it's pretty similar to GDScript) or something else before getting into this because the programming concepts are kind of skimmed over and I think for long-term projects that's going to send you to the school of hard knocks. As for us who already have some programming experience and want to get into Game dev with Godot I think this course is a great starting point just to get yourself familiarized with the Engine and give you the confidence to go out there and do some things outside of the course once you finish. I actually had so much fun adding stuff to the Alien Attack and Martian Mike projects that were not in the lectures and I highly encourage others to do the same to learn even more about Godot. Overall I would recommend the course, the instructor is great and most importantly clear and concise about what's happening in the video. If there was one thing I would probably add to this course is maybe teaching about source control and maybe deploying projects to Github, because that's going to be important for those that enroll in this course that never have worked in Software so they don't lose their work.

I am wrapping up the last tutorial and I can say it's been extremely helpful for me. the teaching is extremely clear and relevant. The teacher is easy to understand and follow and knows his matter. but what I appreciate the most so far is that he is spending the time to explain what does what and why rather than simply let the student reproduce his work. the reason why I put .5 is purely because I felt sometimes the challenge difficulty were too un even and laid out like the student was doing the training marathon style. but that might be just me who is also un even in my learnings :P I will most definitely look for more trainings from the same teacher!! he's the best of all the other dozen trainings I found so far. I've been trying to find motivation and grasp scripting/coding for so long and you are the first to actually made me excited to continue and complete the training! props

The course was fantastic. I now feel like I am well equipped to start a development journey, I even started working on my own prototype. The professor gives clear instructions, warns about possible mistakes or assumptions you may make and how to avoid these and when there is a big information dump creating a new feature, he always walks back and does the step by step on why and how each step was taken. Now I only wish there was a more advanced course for me to keep progressing with guidance

This is the first course I've ever finished on this platform, but it definitely won't be the last. After finishing it, I feel much more confident in my abilities to actually make small games, and a little experimenting on my own has added to that confidence. Khan goes at just the right pace needed for a beginner, and the information you learn throughout the course is very manageable. At no point did I feel like I was overwhelmed with information, which can be a very common feeling for someone just starting out with programming + learning a game engine from scratch. The little challenges were engaging, not too difficult and just enough to give me a push to feel more confident in writing my own code. Beyond the challenges given throughout the course you must tinker with the tools you're given in your own time if you want to absorb the knowledge! The course sits at 11 hours long, which is a good length at this level. It's not so long that you feel intimidated by it, and not so short that you barely learn anything. By the end of it, you won't be an expert or even intermediate godot user, but you will be a much more confident beginner, you'll be more comfortable with the engine and programming in gdscript, you will be able to make your own games, and most importantly, you will have built a solid foundation upon which you can build your knowledge further. I strongly recommend this course to beginners to godot and game dev.

Just finished the course: I must say it's a Great course! Extremely clear! I really enjoy every second of it. Kaan is an amazing teacher and I definitely like his teaching skills even with zero programming experience, I was able to understand everything and start making my own projects. I love how the instructor slowly introduces new nodes and adds some explanation on section concepts so even with programming experience, always justifies his choices, giving tips and preventing possible errors! I was able to understand most of it and not get overwhelmed with new information. The pace is perfect for beginners. I'm now going to start practicing on my own to create games. Thank you so much! Looking forward to other courses by the same instructor/team.

I enjoyed this course sooo much! I'm a fan of Gamedev.tv courses as I already completed some others (Scratch, Construct3, Game Design) and enjoyed them all, but it was the first time with this AWESOME Teacher. He never gave a concept for granted, often repeated them through all the course long. When I had some difficulties, I posted my questions in the Q&A section and always got a reply within few hours from his assistant. I think Gamedev.tv found a younger version of Rick Davidson. Looking forward an advanced Godot 4 2D course or a beginner 3D one. Thanks Kaan!

Extremely clear ! Kaan is really a great instructor, always justifying his choices, giving tips and preventing possible errors! What often lacks in bad or average courses... Just finished the course : constantly excellent !!! Don't believe those who say the third part isn't as clear as the beginning ! Looking forward other tutos by Kaan with game deploying, others game logics, AI for enemies etc... Keep the good job !
