Course Description
This course will cover everything you need to know about creating a small 2D arena survival roguelike game from start to finish in the Godot Engine 4. This course covers many aspects of creating a survivors style game including:
Auto-attacking abilities
Hordes of enemies that increase in difficulty over time
Roguelike ability and player upgrades
Permanent progression with saving and loading
Levelling up by collecting experience dropped from enemies
This list is not exhaustive - please see the course outline for a glimpse into the topics that are covered.
The goal of this course is to show you how to take an empty project and turn it into a small, complete game. In doing so, this course will give you a robust exposure to many aspects of the Godot engine from input handling, to tilemaps, to saving and loading data, to audio, and more. By the time you complete this course, you will feel comfortable working on your own projects in Godot 4. You will walk away from this course with a solid foundational understanding of making games that are not only functional but also fun.
This course will help you greatly if:
You are ready to dive into a crash course for the newly released Godot 4
You have some game development knowledge and want to learn Godot 4
You have some programming knowledge and want to make games
You struggle to complete games and want to start and finish a project
You regularly participate in game jams and want to improve your ability to craft a fun but short experience
Please note that this course is focused purely on the start-to-finish process of making a survivors style game. With that goal in mind, there is no time spent explaining fundamental programming concepts. Familiarity with programming is strongly recommended before taking this course. Any programming experience is fine - GDScript is easy to use.
Several lessons are available to for you to preview for free. Please take a look at those videos before enrolling to determine if the pace of this course is right for you!

Amazing course from Firebelley. Really well structured and paced to give the learner time to understand each concept of the Godot Engine and scripting language. Each lesson builds upon the last with code that can be developed by the learner if they wish to take the game beyond the course content. Highly recommend for anyone interested in the Godot Engine and game development as a hobby/career path.

I already knew a bit about Godot having made a multiplayer jigsaw puzzle last year but I wasn't sure how to tie it all together to make a "complete" looking experience, and thus found myself with a rather amateuristic looking game on my hands. After completing this course however, I can say I learned a lot and feel confident that any game I make after this will be better in both setup and presentation. Thanks Firebelly!

As a professional software developer, I'm quite impressed with the quality of this course. It's structured into short, digestible chunks and every step is clearly explained. There's also a big focus on clean code (things like the single responsibility principle, composition, how the code is organized/structured and how the different classes interact), which is incredibly important to learn as early as possible to help deal with the inevitable long-term accumulation of technical debt that happens in any project.

I've been following Firebelley for quite a while on youtube and recently decided to buy two of his courses, this and the puzzle course for using csharp with godot. Have been enjoying this one so far and plan to start the next one when I'm finished and can implement my own ideas into the game taught in this course. Godot seems very intuitive once you get over a few hurdles and it's always nice to have a formal course structure, so that you can find everything in one place.

This is definitely one of the better Godot courses I have completed. This course is perfect for someone who already has some programming experience and is looking to get their feet wet with Godot. The changes between the instructor's version of Godot and the latest (4.6 as of the time of this review) are accounted for in each of the individual lecture comments from other students. The instructor has professional software engineering experience and has published several games, which means he is much more qualified to teach versus the overwhelming amount of YouTube influencer hobbyists out there.

Great teacher and an actual Professional. I am a Software Engineer and I can tell the instructor knows what he's talking about, he has good practices as well as multiple small "tricks" that only someone with years of experience can know and he teaches it in the course. I found this extremelly valuable because no one is going to teach you this which may seem superficial if you're doing a small project but beceomes important if you really work in a real big project/game

I finished the course. It was an incredible journey. I showed up with mostly just beginner knowledge of Godot, and this really helped me understand so much more of the engine. Not only that, but it was made so much fun. While I had a few hiccups, I found the answers in the Q&A area and always found fixes for my issues there. :) The teacher was fun and entertaining and always kept my attention through the course work. I honestly blame him a little (LOL I'm kidding, or am I?) for me getting stuck with programmer dreams as I couldn't wait to wake up, to work on my project. The course was above my best expectations. Thank you!

This series coupled with your 2d multiplayer course combine to form a potent pathway to success. After finishing your 2d multiplayer course, I've only just cracked into this survivors course and already I feel confident I am on my way to a truly fun and unique game. You lay such a solid foundation and explain with clarity every decision along the way to present the student with enough opportunities for creative expression afterwards. Thank you so much for making godot more accessible and sharing the wisdom you've accumulated in your lifetime.

Purchased months ago, but only had time to start this course in the last few weeks. Just finished Section 2, and I feel the real fun begins now, but I already wanted to give this course five stars The lessons are very short and easy to follow and each focuses on a specific topic. But it's not about the game itself (which I sometimes end up playing too), but rather that you're taught to structure it in a way that actually makes sense, keeping the composition principle in mind from the very beginning. For the record, I put what I've done so far on Itch (https://kekkorider.itch.io/godot-survivor), and I'm planning to update in every time I proceed with the course. This way, I hope others will be encouraged to purchase it.

He keeps using `var x = value as Type` instead of `var x: Type = value`, but using `as` will just return null, which is much more confusing than the behaviour of the second option
