Course Description

If you have a technical or creative project that you want to finish (or start!), this course will help you to identify why you are getting blocked, how to stay on track and ultimately help you FINISH IT (your project that is).
We often use the word "motivation"to summarise the process of staying focused and getting our work done. But finishing challenging projects requires far more than just motivation - it requires systems, strategies, tools and planning.
In this course we start at the high level and explore how this project fits into your overall career or life goals. We look at what, exactly, your final product will look like and why on earth you are even working on your project. Often its not for very powerful reasons which can lead to some funky unproductive behaviour on our part.
We continue to drill down through your project to look at what are your very next actions, where you are blocked, what you plan to accomplish this week, this month and the next 90 days. You will learn techniques such as:
The Very Next Thing tecnhiqueThe Clear Your Cache techniqueYour own personal approach to Finding FlowThe Work-Or-Dont-Work philosophyThe Work Breakdown Structure techniqueThe Accountability Buddy approachAnd many more techniques for successThe goal of this course is very simple: Get you to Finish your project.
Some examples of projects that our students are working to finish are:

This is a great course ! Nail exactly where I struggle when making big projects. Also The tutor is speaking clearly and not too fast so even non native english like me can follow it without headaches !

25% through and will be coming back for more as I work on my projects, #1 on my custom Udemy categories to keep it in front of me when I log in. Rick does an amazing job at drawing out my honest evaluation of myself. Procrastination, finishing, and distractions have always been difficult for me but I think with this lesson's research and advice I'll be able to power forward. Thank you Rick and GameDev.tv folks! I'm very happy, I'll do my best to pay it forward.

Kesinlikle.

When I found this course on Udemy I was a bit skeptical because I have never believed in motivational, self-help books or coaching. But as I already studied with some of the other GameDev.tv courses, and I already had Rick as a teacher, I just bought the course to give it a chance.
And it was exactly what I needed. I have the habit of continously study and improve my skills through online courses, and with all the super useful courses that I have completed already, and that have given me skills to be more confident and a better all around professional, I think I have never had such an impact on my life than this course.
I have had fear of failure, I have been stuck at work for long periods of time, and a very low self steem and confidence in my skills (that's why I keep studying constantly, I guess). But Rick has not been just a positive input in my life. He doesn't limit to tell you "you can do it", but he picks you from the bad place I am sure you are in right now (if not, probably you won't be even thinking on buying this course) and give you the tools to get on your own feet.
And this part is important. This course offers no easy answer. I can't tell you, that if you want to finish your project, you will have to commit to it (several times). This is a point of inflexion on my life, and I can't wait to get to that 90 days and see what I am capable of. Maybe it will be a shit. But, hey, I don't mind. I already even know what I will do next!
Good Luck and Good Game!

He is a motivating instructor

This course provides lots of motivating perspective on getting to work. Even if you're like me, at the start of game development without any projects or value, there's still a lot of good information on how to get to work, staying motivated, how to view big projects and what to do when you do make a game. I'm glad I took this course. Now to get to work and make something!

So far the points have been very useful and thought provoking, I am enjoying the content so far, and the included work book that we have to fill out is a great tool for us to refer back to in the future.

Great course, well explained. It helps me a lot. Maybe, the voice may be too fast for a non-native English person, but lessons can be played more slowly (0.75x). Anyway, thanks a lot for this course.

By Olaf Scheunemann on 7/19/2020

Yes, also psychologically well designed :-))

By Carol on 7/14/2020

Useful tips but feels slightly stretched out. Maybe could have done with a bit more look at stratergies for project management. However that is a block for me and the course has helped me identify this. Overall I think its a fairly broad but shallow course, which can certainly help exposure to ways to improve your productivity and how you should feel about your projects to actually complete them.

By Nedim Toker on 6/25/2020

I am at the beginning of the course, but it really goes well beyond my expectations!

By Kare Bear on 6/22/2020

he really is breaking everything down and helping to set you up for the best possible outcome you can get! amazing advice that will definitely help you going forward!
