Course Description
Build 3 simple mobile games using the free Unity game engine. Learn all the ways mobile games differ from pc games (including touch inputs, push notifications, ads for revenue, screen resolutions and layouts and more). Develop your own awesome mobile games and publish them on the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
This course is not for absolute beginners. You'll need a basic grasp of Unity and C# (understanding variables, methods, if statements, loops and other similar concepts) before you get started, so you're ready for the more advanced concepts taught.
By the end of this course you will be able to...
Create games specifically designed for mobile devices using touch input controls.
Ensure that your game will work well no matter what device size or resolution is being used.
Create push notifications to inform players about changes in status for the game (eg. their energy has recharged).
Implement Unity's advertising system so that you can make money from displaying relevant ads in your game.
Use Unity's profiler to identify what, if any, performance issues users will have in your game.
Prepare your game and understand how to submit it to be published on the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
This course is created with both Windows and Mac users in mind, meaning you can get full benefit whether you are a windows or mac user. We'll also walk you through deploying to both Android (Google) and iOS (Apple) by showing you how to set up your developer account and submit your game.
All students have access to the Q&A forums where our Instructors, Teaching Assistants and Community are ready to help answer your questions and cheer on your success.

I'm giving the course 3,5 for now. It could be a 5star with these things updated: Its probably frustruating for you guys as well since Unity and google updates these things very often but since you guys decided to put out a course like this then it should be taken in mind to update so lecture .44 and .49 are outdated. I couldn't get through or had to dig deep and look in different forums and at the end also ask chatGPT to help me fix the issue for the ad section and managed to do so. on .49 chatGPT couldn't really help since its a google/unity thing. forums dont have the answers because its outdated and the solutions others got doesn't work for me as of today. I just kept on going without the solution and the function probably works on editor but not if I build the app so I hope to get an answer there soon. these 2 things are major of why I bought the course in the first place, I wanted to learn in app purchases and how to set up ads. I will change this to a 4.5 star if these things updates soon. also the other 0.5 star is because the tutors are pretty young, they go very fast ahead explaining and scrolling and doesn't think that we are not as fast. Of course you can pause but its pretty annoying to pause and play all the time when you follow along. I mean I will just compare with Ricks 3D beginners game course, it was at a perfect pace there, and that time I was very new to Unity. This was a tad bit fast with explanations and even writing everything and applicate everything. Some things are not 100% clear even after the small explanation but all in all, I guess it was a good course. This is my honest opinion for this course. I do have all of gamedev.tv's courses and they are great over all, I do recommend other people getting their courses.

Great introduction into some basic games with focus on mobile performance and considerations. Clear communication, examples and coding. Thank you to Brian Trotter for the amazing help with Q&A. He went above and beyond in answering my many questions. Would have liked to see a bit more about mobile development itself, and the features that come with it. For example, you could have done a section about tilting the phone, or more issues that come up when publishing the game to mobile.

I think Nathan did a much better job in this course compare to other course in explaination. He is good at explaining simple stuff. This is still a very informative course to anybody who is new to Unity or Mobile game, but I would say this is only the introduction. If they include some more advance topics this would have been a 5 star course I hope they add swipe/virtual joystick control, lucky draw type In Game purchase and disable ads after purchase in this course

It was about as expected. My biggest issue is that the instructor would speak without taking an appropriate pause before they go into more detail about what they were talking about. I would've liked to seen ways to control the touchscreen like a joystick, and how to save the game other than playerprefs since it's easily modifiable and not "fit" for distribution imo. Also, having controls plus a way to attack while moving would've been a nice topic to include in this mobile course. Compared to other courses I've taken From GameDev.tv this one seems shallow/not enough content.

I found in some places that the code was not super intuitive. I often found myself copying, rather than thinking. It's like I would have been able to do the games requested on my own with some internet research and didn't see the point of following the instructor's code all the time. Also, I think it would have been important to briefly mention the monetization and promotion of mobile games to keep in mind that publishing alone is not enough. That being said I am glad I was able to discover the assets, libraries, specific to mobile development. I was even able to discover some ways to do things that I would not have thought of.

A great course to learn about mobile games creation. It gave me a good overall idea of how Unity works with C#. I have always wanted to create some mobile games and finally taken a dive to learn it via this course, it was a great experience. The pace was good. Also, it was a great coincidence because I wanted to create something like Ball Launcher and Simple Driving, my game idea is different but the overall game physics is almost similar.

This is a good introduction to Unity mobile game development, the games are working and you get a feeling for the basics of Unity and C#. However the course has some limitations: 1) you won't learn much about generic 'coding best practices', regarding both code structure, and documentation. E.g. it remains unclear how to organize C# scripts and dependencies. When should you attach a script to a new empty GameObject and when to e.g. the existing 'player'? Should menus contain the business logic of a game? When examples/games get a little more complex, the dependencies between objects and scripts get a bit messy. Also this course does not teach how to choose good variable and function names. Very often the instructor says something like "the variable name can be whatever you want, it's really up to you". (Which is technically true, but no helpful advice). - there are no proper tips on 'further reading' and best ways to use the documentation for both Unity, and C# language features. So if you want to do something even slightly different from the course content, you're on your own to google the internet... I was missing hints like "If you want to know more about XYZ I highly recommend to read ABC" But all in all I enjoyed doing this course, I watched every lecture and completed all the projects. So it wasn't bad at all :)

The course was good, I learned a lot. But even though we were warned at the beginning that it was a more intermediate course I felt that the ad implementation lecture went on a little too fast. Also, there is a mention of an object pooling method at one point that we never get to see made. The Simple Driving game has a bug when you minimize the game on mobile that made me lose some time because I thought I made a mistake. Fortunately after I submitted a question at the respective lecture someone from the gamedev team managed to replicate the bug and said it will get fixed in the course too.

The course is exactly what I was looking for! basic, for beginners who start with mobile game development. I'd love to see more courses in this series as Nathan Farrer is a great tutor, a small advice for later- (Atleast for myself) I would love to hear more in-depth information about main features we're using while the course. Their abilities, when and how to use them etc. Other than that- I am extremely pleased with this course and enrolled with a few more (pc version, until you release more mobile versions aswell :-) ) Thanks alot and keep up the good work!
