Create a Twitter Clone with Node.js, Socket.IO and MongoDB (Udemy.com)

Coming from a PHP background, I thought this course did an excellent job explaining NodeJS. I was also glad to find myself learning new things about Javascript that I had thought I had known, but didn't. Overall, I learned a lot that I will take with me, such as using Socket.io and using nodeJS based ORMs. But yes, very good course and the British accent was easy on the ears having had to listen to this course for 25+ hours.

I'm a beginner of Node.js, but this course is really good for me. Sometimes I faced to a bug and I debugged to it for 10,20 minutes or more. But I realized to teacher faced to a same one and often fixed it in a few minutes later or after chapters. In my case, I needed not to be picky and to keep running. Because I was a newbee of Node.js and my purpose is that to used to it. Totally this course is great for me. Thanks a lot teacher.

The course is now somewhat dated, because jQuery is all over the place (although, trying to figure how to do the same with with vanilla Javascript is a good mental exercise). Nevertheless, the instructor's encompassing knowledge and ability to engage the audience is uncanny... 274 videos later!

I LOVE this lecture. I wanted to build an application with node.js so it is the one I was looking for. Though I didn't expect to see jQuery or `var`, like he explained in QnA page jQuery is still important thing to understand so it was good experience I guess. There are issues while following the video but I can fix them with QnA or googling. One thing inconvenient was screen size. It was too small sometimes. When the editor page is showing, Please zoom in or make it full screen at least.

Reece does a really good job of making a polished app and he explains every step of the way. I took this course for the socket.io portion but ended up learning a fair bit about other topics such as mongoose operators. To get that extra 1/2 star I would have personally liked to see Reece do a little more refactoring to clean up the code and use some more modern js but those are good exercises for the student to go through on their own anyways. Hoping his next course uses react instead of pug / jQuery :D

Another great course by Reece! If you are like me and have little or no experience with Node/Express + MongoDB, you'll benefit hugely by enrolling. Don't be intimidated by its length, though, since there's a ton of useful stuff in there: installing and using npm packages, basic Node and Express setup, understanding MongoDB as well as doing both basic and more advanced queries, routing, different types of ajax requests, using Pug as the template engine, understanding API as a concept and creating endpoints, Socket IO for real-time communication and more. And, of course, you'll have Reece's full support when it comes to solving different issues that you may come across while coding yourself. So 5 stars from me!

If there was another 6th star i would have rated this course 6 star as well. Very indepth course full of deep knowledge with such amazing presentation by Reece. You rock Reece :) What can we expect next? Could you create such a cource with reallife project on much more complex topic involving MicroFrontends in react js microservices architecture , socket IO Integration with redux and dedicated socket.io redux middleware, mongo db /postgresql with real life system design for optimizing resources being uploaded and finnally security of api? That would be 10 star content project.

Fantastic course for $9.99 - if you see anything less than 5 stars then those people are ridiculous. Positives: 1. Teaches quite a bit how to use mongoose, which many courses don't delve that deep into the techniques 2. Covers the schema techniques that are useful in social network apps, which is one of the main reasons I bought this course 3. Uses jQuery which will add to my skills if I work for a client with an existing legacy application 4. Uses modular node techniques for building the api which I didn't know. (app.use middleware with sub folders) 5. Does a great job of styling of the application especially the chat messages which I learned a few things about css i didn't know before. 6. I had very few bug fixes because of how easy it was to follow Reece, which is a giant credit to him and his approach to the content 7. I learned a tremendous amount and will definitely re-watch this course 8. The short length of the videos and the sections was fantastic. I just kept thinking, "This guy gets learning. He gets momentum & easy victories." I wish other teachers would follow suit. Negatives: 1. The app is insecure, with no filtering of inputs or escaping outputs. I would spend time securing the app as much as I can before I put it on my portfolio. 2. Some of the front end files feel overwhelming in size and I'll look into how to make it more modular 3. Does not cover how to deploy the app but many other courses I have done in the past have, so it's less of an inconvenience to me. Would be nice to have it though. 4. The CSS is not organized well, so I will spend time doing that as well and might try to switch to SASS for its benefits in this area. 5. The resolution of the video is 720p & not 1080p which makes the video hard to see. 6. The end project is not mobile responsive I loved the course, which lead me to purchase his Netflix course and I'm having the same great experience in that course. My recommendation: BUY!!

Very glad to have bought this course. I would recommend this course to anyone who is new to this field and trying to learn the standard techniques to go about creating any web app. I wanna thank Reece for creating this course, I have learned lots of new stuff and I am way more confident than I was at the start which will help me or anyone who takes this course for their future endeavours!

This is a good course to build a project that integrates with features that you will implement as a Fullstack Web Developer in the real world. You will be exposed to important elements of web development such as: Backend - REST APIs, authentication flows, application - database integration, WebSocket (socket.io), Pub-Sub architecture. On the frontend you will be exposed to commonly-used libraries like (Bootstrap) and basic DOM manipulation with jQuery. These are all valuable concepts that are highly relevant as a web developer. By virtue of having prior experience in web development, I was more particular about certain areas to pick up going into the course. I was hoping to learn about architecting a Full-stack web application that is maintainable and scalable in a team setting. Clearly, it is beyond the scope of this course to cover this. Having prefaced this, I would list what are the areas which I would love to see. 1. Data modelling process - Reviewing the data entities of the app, their relationships to one another, and their access points (ie. CRUD operations that will be built on them) 2. Introducing appropriate tools/libraries for development and testing - eg. Postman for API testing, MongoDB Compass as a desktop-based UI etc 3. Choice of architecture - I felt that the use of Pug templating engine with jQuery and Bootstrap as the frontend framework insufficient for the application. It made the frontend codebase difficult to maintain due to repeated code use. While sufficient for the course's purpose to introduce concepts and build a working prototype, I'd prefer using a frontend framework like Angular or Vue.js to write maintainable code. Again, I'd like to qualify that my suggestions are coming from a standpoint of looking to build production-ready code in an enterprise setting. That is beyond the scope of this course. I'd maintain that this course is definitely a good introduction to many common concepts in web development.
