Course Description

In this video course, you will learn how to use Docker to package and run your Java applications.

This course is designed for beginners, and we’ll start right from the basics of what Docker is and why it has become the standard tool for running applications across different environments.

You will learn:

  • What Dockerfiles, Docker images, Docker containers, and Docker registries are, and how they all fit together.

  • How to install Docker on both Mac and Windows, so you can get started no matter what operating system you use.

  • How to use the most commonly used Docker commands to build images, start containers, and manage your applications.

You will learn how to create Dockerfiles step by step, including how to:

  • Write a simple Dockerfile to containerize your application.

  • Create multi-stage Dockerfiles that make your images smaller and faster.

  • Build Docker images and run them as containers.

You will also learn how to manage containers effectively:

  • How to start, stop, and inspect containers.

  • How to connect your containers so they can talk to each other.

  • How to persist and share data using Named Volumes, Anonymous Volumes, Bind Mounts, and tmpfs storage.

You will also learn about Docker networking and how containers communicate on:

  • The default bridge network,

  • User-defined bridge networks,

  • And the host network mode.

You will learn how to use Docker Compose to build and run multiple containers with one single command!

Finally, you’ll learn how to work with DockerHub:

  • How to find and pull existing images,

  • And how to publish your own images so they can be shared with others.

All of this, from the very beginning, to help you confidently start using Docker as a Java developer and take your applications from your laptop to the cloud.

Sergey Kargopolov

I build software and teach developers how to build real-world applications. Creating practical, hands-on video courses is something I really enjoy.

My courses cover Java, Spring Boot, AWS, microservices, testing, Kubernetes, and AI-assisted software development. The focus is on learning skills that developers can apply to their own projects.

Outside of teaching, I am also the founder of SaaS Hive, a platform that helps SaaS founders launch and promote their products.

I have just finished the course Docker for Java Developers by Sergey Kargopolov and I can confidently say that it is one of the best technical courses I have taken. Sergey explains each concept in a very clear and structured way. He does not assume too much prior knowledge and at the same time he never oversimplifies the material. Every topic is introduced with solid explanations and followed by practical demonstrations that actually reflect real world scenarios. I especially liked his teaching style. His accent is very easy to understand and his pace is perfect. He is calm, precise, and always focused on helping the student understand why things work, not only how to make them work. Another strong point is how supportive he is. It really feels like he cares about the students progress and wants them to succeed. I highly recommend this course to any Java developer who wants to properly understand Docker and use it with confidence in real projects.
