Course Description
Welcome to my Course, "Drawing Amazing Backgrounds with Perspective - Step by Step." This course will teach you how to use 1, 2, and 3 Point Perspective to create interesting and imaginative backgrounds. You will work with me as we draw an illustration for each example. This will allow you to learn not only how to use these powerful techniques but also how to create environments from imagination.
In the first section you will learn the fundamental techniques that allow you to measure and map distance in perspective. These techniques can seem basic but I assure you that they come in handy when you get to your more complex drawings.
You will learn a variety of techniques to create shapes with dimension through these lessons. Such as cubes, pyramids, archways, and angles. By the end of this course, you will have a better understanding of how to draw rooms, buildings, brick walls, windows, furniture, and all in Linear Perspective!
Things we will be Focusing on in this Course
Creative Design Thinking
Expressive Line Making
Depth + Scale within Our Scenes
Mapping Out Space in Perspective
Adding Values for Portfolio or Client Work

This course is designed to teach you how to draw detailed backgrounds step by step. You will be drawing an alleyway with one-point perspective, an interior room with two point-perspective, and a view looking up at various buildings using three-point perspective. These will each be created with a different style to give you the most versatile experience possible. It is important that you not only learn how to draw with perspective but also how to create a variety of styles with these techniques. I want my students to be able to relate this information to comics, storyboards, and animation. If you learn to be versatile as an illustrator you have a much greater chance of success. This is what I have experienced in my career and I want to share that with you! Drawing background with Linear Perspective is an extremely important asset to have as an artist. So let's get started right now and put Perspective Art in your toolbox!
This course has been updated with new content as of September of 2023. I have added additional lessons on mapping and dividing shapes in perspective. I have also included more practice activities for you to study and follow along with.

I currently teach Figure Drawing, Anatomy, How to Draw Comics, and Digital Painting. My primary art programs are Clip Studio Paint, Procreate, Sketchbook Pro, and Photoshop. I also teach traditional art methods as well.
These courses will no longer be updated. If you want my full courses you can get them on my website at Ram Studios Comics .com

My goal is to help aspiring artists realize their potential and break their mental barriers that hold them back from creating the artwork of their dreams. We can all do it with the right instruction and work ethic. That is what I am here to teach my students.
I have been a working professional artist for most of my life. I have been published in comics, created 3D animation and characters for television, illustrated storyboards for commercials, and owned and operated my own sign and design firm successfully for over 15 years.
I am also the author of the book "Learn to Draw Action Heroes" by Penguin Random House Publishing.
I now share my knowledge in digital art and computer software through online platforms such as Udemy and have a growing Youtube channel as well. With over 270,000 Youtube subscribers and quickly growing I felt I should create some more in depth content for students wanting to take their skills to the next level.

This was a pretty good course i learned a lot and was able to make a lot with it thank you Marzullo for making it. Though my criticism are minor i think they could help, more enthusiasm in the voice could help and better pacing and editing i learned what i needed it was awesome!!!

This course is very helpful if you’re trying to learn perspective however, I do have some suggestions on how to make it better. 1. There should be more resources for homework after each lesson. 2. Personally, it feels like this lesson focuses more on detail rather than actual perspective. Detail is great but should not be the focal point. Remember, as an artist The most important thing is to practice. This lesson was great but it’s One of those tutorials that you just have to follow along instead of incorporate it into your own work.

The Teacher provide one with the way to think and the points one should look out for when designing a background that is the most important thing one needs the way and points to keep in mind when planing and designing maybe adding some creativity objects, texture and object shadow on another object shadow will make the lessons fully addressed

Having finished the course, I really feel like I could draw just about ANY background with confidence! Also, there is incredible value in getting to watch over the instructor's shoulder as he works on a drawing in real time. He provides lots of really useful tips and commentary along the way! And some amazing advanced techniques at the very end.

I was really happy with it. It was exactly what I was hoping to learn. He summarized what my difficulties as an artist were in the first five minutes. I thought that he separated the lessons nicely, which makes it easier to go back. I even found the artist to be a little funny.

For me this instruction is the best I've had on perspective. I've been confused for years. A traditional artist turned to digital & now there's hope for me to see the light at the end of my "tunnel" regarding perspective. Thanks Robert for your explicit instruction.

If you don't know much about how to draw background or how to use 1 - 3 point perspective effectively, this is a helpful course. The lessons are broken up into small, easy-to-digest segments while you are invited to draw along with the instructor, Robert, who is pleasant, responsive, and explains what he's doing and why. Before each scene, you'll learn about the perspective being used before the demo itself, with bonus supplemental info about inking/filling. That being said, most of the forms you'll be working with here are rectangular or cuboid, so if you're looking to practice more complex, rounded forms, they're aren't many outside whatever you choose to modify the cityscape scenes with (I tried to add people.) All in all, it's a good course to take if you are looking to try your hand at making comic/manga-style backgrounds or just want more practice with perspective lines.

Like the other courses from Robert, this one is easy to follow--definitely will take some practice to get good at implementing perspective, but all the steps are laid out very well. Sometimes it was hard to see where he was drawing because of all the guide lines. The course has helped me pay more attention to perspectives around me. Thanks, Robert!

This course contains absolutely essential knowledge of how to draw using different kinds of perspective, and the way it's organized is excellent! I wish that the 3-point perspective section didn't get so bogged down in drawing and redrawing the windows, and fixing the perspective of said windows. This is something I can understand, as an artist, that you can easily get fixated on. But it would have been better if these videos were sped up, like the inking ones, or if the measurements were "correct" to begin with. But again, I learned so much all the exercises and demonstration sections. I also discovered lots of new ways to add detail to my backgrounds, which is something I've always struggled with.
