Very good introduction course to Express js

He is great but for example he is saying

" Let's change (node ./app.js) to (node ./app.js --exec babel-node -e js) ... and the program is runnig"

So why ? what is exec doing here ? why babel? Why should use Express? why we should run this to make it compatible ? what is babel?
