Course Description
IMPORTANT: Everything you'll learn in this course can be applied to the new release of Unreal Engine 5. The new features of UE5 such as LUMEN and NANITE are not covered in this course yet, however. You can even switch the layout of UE5 back to classic UE4 if you'd like to make it easier to follow along. (I prefer the slick new layout of UE5 myself)
LEARN FACIAL ANIMATION & MORE WITH UNREAL ENGINE 4 & DAZ STUDIO!
Both of these outstanding animation programs are FREE and will allow you to create stunning and highly professional character animations. In this course we will go over the simple techniques that unlock the little known animation powers inside of Unreal Engine. By using the high quality DAZ 3D characters, you will learn how to export any morph targets you'd like from DAZ Studio and then utilize them inside of Unreal Engine. (Note: Even though there is a DAZ to Unreal Bridge their are some issues with it and its good to learn how to do this manually as discussed in this course)
REAL TIME ANIMATION RENDERING

How to use the PUPPETEER tool in DAZ as a way to export morphs and animations
How to properly import your DAZ3D character with it's skeleton, rigging, morph targets, materials and textures
Learn where the morph sliders are in Unreal Engine and how to use them
Create a realistic blink animation for your character

Animate mouth movements for speech as well as expressions
Animate your characters head movements
Create and animate believable expressions
Learn about amazing new tools that work in conjunction with Unreal Engine 4 such as Allright Rig & Akeytsu
Plus much, much more!

Super Dude - this character is an original creation by Michael Ricks sculpted in ZBrush. Inspired by the characters from the hit film 'The Incredibles,' Super Dude comes fully rigged with a ton of facial morphs. You'll have an absolute blast right away when you start sliding around the controls and see what hilarious expressions you can make with him. He also comes with the phoneme mouth shapes for accurate lip sync punctuation. Super Dude is based on the DAZ3D Genesis 8 character.
Wendy - this cute Toon girl character is also an original creation by Michael Ricks and was sculpted in ZBrush, based on the DAZ3D Genesis 3 character. She also comes with many facial morph and expression controls and will immediately come alive for you in Unreal Engine 4. With her big expressive eyes, you will have her emoting in no time at all!

I'LL SEE YOU ON THE INSIDE!
All these characters are included in the course and are for your use both personal and professional for cinematics and film/video use. If you desire to use the characters in an actual game as a playable character you will need to purchase an interactive license from DAZ3D as these characters are based on the Genesis models. At this time, game licenses are running approximately $30-$50 per character for a published game. Please go to the DAZ3D website for more information.

I've been making films and doing visual effects on indie films for over 15 years. When I discovered Unreal Engine I was blown away by it's realistic real-time rendering engine! I immediately saw that Unreal Engine was a game changer and that it had now become possible for a small studio consisting of a few artists or even a single artist to pull off a Hollywood quality feature length animated film!
In the past it would take hours, if not days, to render each frame of an animation, which made it impossible for an independent artist to complete a full-length film. It would literally take years to render all the frames of a movie.
All this has changed with Unreal Engine - the playing field has been leveled, and it is now truly up to the talents and skill set of the artist/storyteller to create their vision. No longer will you be held back due to limitations of technology.
Join with me as we begin a journey in using this awesome tool-set - I think you will find it not only fun but extremely satisfying on a creative level.

This a good course which touches upon the Basics of all the animation aspects of Daz Character inside unreal engine. Howsoever there are a few things which I must mention a) This course needs a serious updating. The Engine Versions have changed and the Anim Graph does not even resembles anything near close to this course. This leads us struggle throughout inside Unreal Engine. b) This couse needs to deal a little more into animations. I know there is another course of the same Tutor, but that is using All Right Rig, which again is outdated. In absence of these two this course looses it's relevance and efficacy at this time.

Excellent course nailing down the basics of Facial animation. Excellent step by step in creating basic facial movements and lip sync along with creating audio tracks and matching the two up. Blendspaces was one of my favorite parts. The course content is very well laid out, concise and and easy to understand. Mike answered all of my questions in a timely manner and got me back on track and excited to learn more. Would definitely recommend this course!

I am happy if you make new lecture (or bonus lectute) about how to change Daz character's material from origianal to Epic's digital human's skin, hair and cloth shader. I hope you make new lecture about facial animation with not animetion asset editor but UE4's sequencer and allright rig.

This is a great basic course for UE4 Character animations it covers not just Facial Animation but also how to work with bones and animations taken from the UE4 marketplace. The course is slow and thorough. No jumps, or unexplained gaps. Sometimes, it was a bit too slow for me, but the information I got was valuable enough for me to sit tight and wait. Now at the end of the course I really wonder if there isn't a way to reduce the mass of key-frames that are created when recording an animation into a clean animation curve. But for now I have a lot to play around with and too see how far this knowledge can get me. But I am almost sure that I will try another course from this author. Very recommendable!

An excellent introduction to character animation in Unreal 4, an area of the engine I had left alone until this course because it just seemed too big and confusing a topic. Fortunately Michael walks you through all the various aspects of it in an intuitive and friendly way. The only thing I would (respectfully) disagree with is the final lesson where the instructor shows you how to add movement to a character walking in place, it's arguably a lot more flexible to move them inside sequencer, that way you can adjust the distance more easily should you change any props in the scene, etc. But overall I am more than happy about purchasing this course and look forward to creating my own movies using the technology.

Very good course, great addition to his first course, learn animation in UE4. Ricks covers a lot of interesting information and shows some real world examples of how to use the technics he teaches. I look forward to his other courses While the Akeytsu software discussed in the final video looks promising, I would recommend looking into the Daz options before buying it. Daz offers animate2, graphmate and Keymate makes daz a much more animation friendly environment. With a final cost of $140, even cheaper if you pick up on sale, it is $40 cheaper than Akeytsu.
