Our take
Based on the ratings of 1,009 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in September 2026. No course pays to be reviewed.
Trevoir Williams' course teaches .NET developers to build generative AI apps in C# with Microsoft Foundry, Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Search and the Microsoft AI Extensions library. It runs 12.8 hours across 165 lectures and 17 sections, and it is mid-rebuild. The newer sections cover structured outputs, multimodal features and knowledge grounding. Roughly half the runtime is older material marked OLD, covering ML.NET, Cognitive Services and Azure ML. The last update was in September 2026.
Most of the 1,009 reviews are positive, with 484 five-star and 395 four-star ratings. Reviewers like the clear, step by step explanations and call it a friendly way into AI for people already working in .NET and Azure. The complaints are consistent, though. The low-star reviews describe lots of slides and theory, basic hands-on coding, and material that feels too entry level for experienced developers. One four-star reviewer wanted more complex examples that combine ML predictions with LLMs.
Despite the Intermediate label, the reviews suggest it works best as a beginner-friendly orientation rather than a deep build guide. It has five quizzes and no coding exercises. The requirements ask for basic C# and ASP.NET Core, and an Azure subscription is recommended for hands-on practice. Developers who already know Azure OpenAI may find it basic, as several low-star reviewers did. For someone new to AI on Azure it is a reasonable starting point, and the VibeCast project sections are the part to prioritize.
Pros
- Reviewers find the explanations clear and easy to follow, step by step
- A gentle first step into AI for people already working in C# and Azure
- Newer sections cover Foundry, structured outputs, RAG and multimodal work
- Rated 4.3 from 1,009 reviews, with 879 of them four or five stars
Cons
- Low-star reviews call it slide-heavy and theory-heavy, with little hands-on coding
- About half the runtime is older material marked OLD, including ML.NET and Azure ML
- No coding exercises, and some reviewers found it too basic for experienced developers
Thank you, Trevor! This was the perfect introduction to AI within the Microsoft Azure environment.
Labeled Intermediate, but the reviews read more like beginner to lower intermediate for C# developers new to AI.

Course Description
This course is being rebuilt for the Microsoft Foundry era. It is currently being modernized to align with Microsoft Foundry, the native Microsoft AI Extensions library, Azure AI Search, RAG, agents, evaluation, security, observability, and production deployment. New lectures are being added while older Azure AI Studio, Azure ML, and legacy Azure AI Services content is being reviewed, replaced, or moved into optional refresher sections.
Generative AI development on Azure has changed significantly. Modern .NET developers now need more than basic prompt demos or simple Azure OpenAI calls. Professional AI applications require secure model access, structured outputs, Retrieval-Augmented Generation, vector search, tool calling, agents, evaluation, observability, and production deployment practices.
This course teaches .NET developers how to build production-minded generative AI applications using Microsoft Foundry, Azure OpenAI-compatible models, Azure AI Search, Microsoft AI Extensions, RAG, agents, security, evaluation, and deployment.
The main project is VibeCast, an enterprise-style multimodal AI application. Through the project, you will build practical workflows for content generation, structured summaries, image and audio processing, document grounding, tool calling, agentic orchestration, security controls, monitoring, and deployment.
This is not a generic AI theory course and not a pure certification cram course. It is a practical engineering course for developers who want to build real AI-enabled applications with C# and .NET.
You will learn how to:
Build modern .NET AI applications using Microsoft Foundry and Azure OpenAI-compatible model deployments.
Use IChatClient, and IEmbeddingGenerator to keep your code testable and provider-flexible.
Design prompt assets, structured outputs, C# records, validation flows, and bounded response repair.
Build professional RAG workflows with Azure AI Search, embeddings, vector indexes, hybrid search, semantic ranking, citations, and grounded response contracts.
Understand classic RAG, agentic retrieval, and Foundry IQ-style knowledge grounding.
Build typed tools and agent workflows with safe execution boundaries.
Secure AI applications against prompt injection, indirect prompt injection, data leakage, and unsafe tool execution.
Add evaluation datasets, red-team tests, OpenTelemetry traces, token/cost monitoring, and production dashboards.
Containerize and deploy .NET AI applications using Azure-ready architecture patterns.

When I started, I was completely new to AI, ML.NET, and Generative APIs. Thanks to Trevoir Williams for the excellent guidance and teaching—I now have a strong understanding of these technologies.

Too much reading from the slides and super entry level for hands-on coding sample. For example when talking about ML.NET, I can spend 5 mins to read the ML.NET overview docs to get the content in the course. The course doesn't even mention the very basic and fundamental concepts about ML and the Tools from ML.NET. DO NOT waste time for this course.

Good content. I would have liked to see more complex examples. Perhaps an AI tool that combines the results of a machine learning prediction with LLMs and different models to solve various parts of the tool.

Man wird in einer sehr sinnvollen Reihenfolge verständlich an das Thema herangeführt. Auch wenn man bereits Vorwissen und Erfahrung mitbringt, hat dieser Kurs auch neuen Input. Gefällt mir sehr gut.

The AI Generative course was an incredible learning experience that deepened my understanding of generative AI and its real-world applications. I learned the core concepts of generative AI and how to seamlessly integrate Azure AI Services with .NET to build smarter, more intuitive applications. The hands-on sessions were especially helpful in working with Natural Language Processing (NLP) and exploring tools like Azure OpenAI Services and Azure AI Cognitive Services. I also gained valuable insights into machine learning, from training models using Azure ML to using ML Builder for local neural networks. One of the most exciting parts was implementing Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) to create grounded AI applications and experimenting with powerful OpenAI models like GPT and DALL-E for text and image generation. Overall, the course gave me the confidence to develop and deploy innovative AI solutions effectively.
