Course Description

Coding pure JavaScript is a challenge. It's a BIG challenge. Especially for those of us who want to write effective and effecient code without all of the extra typing.

Enter TypeScript.

TypeScript is a JavaScript compiler. I'd argue it's essentially shorthand/shortcuts for writing pure JavaScript code. It's incredible how useful it can be.

TypeScript is modern, slick, and super easy to setup and use. It's also the basis for frameworks like Angular and Ionic both of which are absolute essentials in your web and mobile developer arsenal.

This course is designed to get you ready for our other course Try Angular. We want to ensure you learn and understand how to write Typescript so you can build awesome projects using Angular.

We hope you enjoy!

It all started with an idea. I wanted freedom... badly. Freedom from work, freedom from boredom, and, most of all, the freedom to choose. This simple idea grew to define me; it made me become an entrepreneur.

As I strived to gain freedom, overtime I realized that with everything that you do you can either (1) convince someone, somehow, to do it with you or (2) figure out how to do it yourself.

Due to a lack of financial resources (and probably the ability to convince people to do high quality work for free), I decided to learn. Then learn some more. Then some more. My path of learning website design started a long time ago. And yes, it was out of need not desire. I believed I needed a website for a company that I started. So I learned how to do it. The company died, my skills lived on... and got better and better.

It took me a while after learning web design (html/css) to actually start learning programming (web application, storing "data", user logins, etc). I tinkered with Wordpress, believing it could be a "user" site, but I was mistaken. Sure there are/were hacks for that, but they were hacks/work-arounds and simply not-what-wordpress-was-indended-to-be. Wordpress is for blogs/content. Plain and simple.

The instructor left code around that gave wrong output and he didn't seem to catch it until later. He said read about let and var in the documentation but what's the point of the course of you don't teach what you think is important? Finally the episode about webpack was mostly about let and var? And he's talking about Python and swift, which are irrelevant for typescript.

By Akhalya on 1/8/2019

Exactly what I needed to get started.. This is a perfect course for those who are trying to start angular but don't have exposure to typescript.. Thank you Justin for this wonderful course!

By Carlos Gasparetto on 1/8/2019

The instructor is good but many times he seems to just write code without thinking. Using real life examples would be better. Like Basil extending SweetSweetBasil... what the hell is that? When you "explain" let and var, it's really shallow, you don't explain the scope differences. Why in one case it doesn't compile and in the other it compiles but it's undefined? Also, the configuration part is outdated both in your videos and links. I tried to follow them but it doesn't work 100%. I had to research somewhere else. Typings is also deprecated and there's not much explanation of the concept of what is it.

Learned a lot, great job by Justin. I got exactly what I wanted, and even though this topic can be elaborated more in detail, it is still a great resource to get started with Typescript. Expecting for more Ts videos from this is instructor, with an intro to Angular too!!

By Brandon Hudson on 5/9/2018

I understood most of it but a lot of the covered material is quite new to me so grasping the topics covered in the video was quite challenging. This video did however, Aid me in the process of learning about JavaScript and what you are able to do within the program itself.

Even though the content is very good, its very hard to grab the things for a new person who is starting with typescirpt. I think this one is very good if you have little knowledge on Javascript or typescript and move forward.

By Cedrick Kinsey on 2/4/2018

Easy to understand, has a good way of explaining typescript to someone new. However, wish that the course had more detailed lectures. I don't mind a quick course, but would like to have a good bit of info put into it. Would recommend already knowing a language like C# in order to follow along.

By Harshavardhan Nakkina on 2/3/2018

I am totally new to typescript. I understood basics of typescript through this course. I will try to build something with typescript and angular. Thank you very much.

By René Voigt on 10/29/2017

The teacher talks quite fast and switches between windows very often, which makes it hard to follow. Had to rewind quite often to be able to follow.

By Aseem on 10/28/2017

In just one hour, the instructor explained so many things to get into the TypeScript stuff. He made me think of TypeScript as an easy language to work with. Isn't It amazing?
