Course Description
Hello,
Welcome to my beginners course on digital drawing using the free GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP). My name is Brian Jackson and I'm a top rated Udemy instructor of over 48 courses covering a wide range of topics from writing, self-publishing and book covers to 2D animation.
This course provides an introduction to both digital drawing using a tablet and the GIMP program. Hardware and software usage details are woven throughout lectures on fundamental drawing techniques and example drawing workshops. Each section concludes with a workshop in which all the previously discussed features are demonstrated followed by a project you can work on independently and submit for review and comment.
In an attempt to get you drawing fast, this course begins with tablet selection and installation and basic GIMP usage. That's enough to get you drawing. Then we'll add information on using layers, and digital editing.
Unlike other courses, this course assumes no former knowledge, begins at the beginning and teaches you drawing and the software rather than simply having you watch me draw (though you'll get plenty of that as well).
This course is designed for drawing and illustration enthusiasts who would like to learn how to draw digitally using a tablet and the free GIMP software product (that runs on Windows 10, Mac OS and Linux). The ideal student is someone new to digital drawing and possibly even drawing itself. Someone who has an idea trapped inside them that they need to express through a creative medium.
Thanks for your interest in GIMP digital drawing. I hope you're excited to get started. If you are, go ahead and click on the enroll button. Don't forget the Udemy 30 day money back guarantee. This should make your decision an easy one.
So, I'll see you in the classroom,
---Brian

Brian Jackson
Hello,
My name is Brian Jackson. I'm the author of about a dozen books, the publisher of well over 100 books, and a Udemy instructor with over 40 courses.
This is my story...
1 Origins
I was born in the middle of the last century in Los Angeles, California. I graduated from Humboldt State University, surrounded by the redwoods of Northern California. After 14 years at Lockheed Missiles and Space as an IBM system programmer and 12 years at Cisco Systems as a test engineer, I retired at 48.
I instantly became bored.
2 Community College
To break the boredom, I enrolled at Columbia Community College to take writing, art, acting and statistics classes. I took 24 units over one year and received straight “A”s.
I was still bored.
3 Writing and Self-publishing
I began writing fiction and nonfiction books and self-publishing them on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Smashwords in July 2011. Though I wrote and published several books, my self-publishing business didn’t take off until my wife joined me.
4 My Wife and Author, Melanie Jackson
Melanie Jackson, my wife, was an author publishing over two romance novels per year through her New York publisher, Dorchester Press. After publishing 24 novels with Dorchester, the company folded, and Melanie was without a publisher (she wanted to write cozy mysteries anyway).

The lecturer Brian is very friendly, professional, well-organized, easy following. He is good at presenting complicated topics in an easy understanding way to the students of all levels. I am very happy to finish this course and expect Brian could add more advanced content about digital drawing into this course or new course in the future. There are no many online courses of digital drawing using open source tools available on the market right now. So highly appreciate Brian's work, Thanks!

I was hoping for much more on using a tablet with GIMP, but mostly the instructor covered the basics of setting up a specific brand of tablet with GIMP. There wasn't much on drawing, just an explanation of a few of GIMP's tools. His drawing instruction was not much more than, "Now go and draw!" I learned a couple of new things, but not near as much as I've learned in other similar Udemy courses on GIMP and creating drawings.

This was a fun short course. I bought a Wacom tablet and needed a nudge to get me started. Thank you Brian for the nudge.

Excellent course. Please note that this course can also be taken if you have GIMP and use mouse instead of tablet, since the instructor covers the basic fundamentals of GIMP. Very easy to understand. A++++

I liked the course. It was not the first time that I was using GIMP, so I didn't really learn many new things, but I think the course was well made and might fit the needs of a total beginner.

I liked the pace of the instructor. He explains concepts well. I very much liked his discussion of what digital tablet to purchase. I have been trying to figure out which one to get. This was an excellent presentation.

Great course, I learned a lot about the fundamentals of using "The" GIMP. Great overview on the fundamentals and I feel like I can actually use the tool a lot better than when I started. I really enjoyed using the tool's features covered in this course, but I kind of feel like there are a ton of features not covered here. Maybe they're more "advanced"? Either way - great course on the fundamentals.

Sir, firstly I apologize for my negative review, but I believe you will consider this is as constructive criticism or feedback. The most annoying thing that I found in this course is that you giggle a lot, too much without reason, unnecessarily. You provided less information in the given time and were saying the same thing again and again repeatedly. Sir, in video tutorial we actually could watch the videos again and again by rewinding. Whenever we find confusion we rewind the video or watch it again. So you don't need to repeat, it is boring and annoying as well. Sometimes I find you are not rehearsed well, prepared enough. In a nutshell, your words are not scripted properly, this also caused disturbances. Though your pace of teaching is quite good especially for we like non-english speaking people. With regards

I like the pace of the instructor; it is not too slow and not too fast; and so far everything is very relevant and useful to me. I am so glad I am taking this course, because trying to 'self-teach' a program such as GIMP with so many features is overwhelming.

Excellent course and I highly recommend it. Brian is easy to understand and is very thorough with his instructions. I'm keen to put everything I've learned into practice. Thanks for making it available for free.
