Course Description
Do you wish to create your own animated film one day? Or perhaps make your own game? But don't how to go about it or where to even start? If so, you may be looking around for cheap (and hopefully free) 3D software.
Blender is one such tool. It is a free, open-source 3D software that can do everything from 3D modeling, animation, rendering and game development. The tool continues to grow with newer and more awesome features being added every so often. Their current feature set is packed and rivals the most expensive 3D software today. One would have to see the awesome projects and quality renderings created by people who have not spent a cent.
In this course, you will learn the basics of (nearly) everything in Blender. Without needing to invest a whole lot of time or money, you will learn how to get started with 3D modeling, lighting, animation, sculpting, rendering, and physics to name a few with exercises spread throughout so that you can get your first experience with the software and gain overall confidence along the way. You will be one step closer to mastering Blender.
What's in this course?
The course is aimed to provide a gentle, yet thorough, introduction to Blender 3D so that you will go away with the confidence of working on your own dream projects. We won't just be looking at what each control does and call it done. The course provides a number of exercises (or mini-projects) on all the main components of 3D of which you are strongly encouraged to follow along and get your first experience with Blender.
Specifically,
- You will learn how to navigate through Blender and get comfortable with the user interface.
- You will learn the bare basics of 3D modeling, lighting, animation, materials, texturing, rendering, sculpting, particles and physics.
- You will work on small easy-to-follow exercises to help solidify your learning and gain your first experiences making something with Blender.
- You can ask me for help anytime if you get stuck trying to do something.
By the end of this course, you will have completed your first few mini-projects with Blender. Since we cover nearly everything in Blender, this will raise your confidence
With over 60+ lectures, there is so much to learn. Don't let this overwhelm you though. The course is designed to make the learning curve as smooth and as easy as possible so that you don't have to pull out all your hair in frustration in an attempt to learn Blender on your own.
Who is this course for?
This will be perfect for the absolute beginner of Blender and the world of 3D in general. There are no nasty jargon anywhere in this course and everything will be explained in a simple easy-to-understand manner.
You are not expected to know anything about Blender. You can start this course with no prerequisites (as we'll cover how to download and install Blender). If there was one prerequisite, it would be to have some passion for 3D (or whichever project you would need Blender for). That motivation will help push you to master Blender so that your dream movie or game can come to life.
What is the expected outcome after the course?
By the end of the course, you can expect to have a good understanding of the major components of Blender. You will gain experience and hopefully confidence in being able to pull off your own 3D projects without having to pull out your hair in frustration.
After that, the outcomes are endless. As you continue to work on your projects, you start to gain confidence in learning more advanced stuff. At this stage, making movies and/or game projects becomes a thing of reality. You could even meet one of the requirements for a Blender-related job!
Best of all, the course is designed to be flexible and will continue to expand as new features get added in or if you feel that I haven't covered an aspect that you would like to learn.

Danan Thilakanathan
Hi, my name is Danan. I am a Software Engineer by day and a Filmmaker/Animator/Educator by night.
I started out making an animated short film for fun using Blender a few years ago. It was during this time did I realize I had a huge passion for 3D filmmaking. I have spent the past 5 years making animated short films and have learnt a great deal about the entire process of filmmaking and animation.
This is something that I do as a hobby. Animation and filmmaking is something I'm quite passionate about and I spent a few years trying to learn and master this skill. Through heaps of trial and error and researching on my own, I feel I have come a long way. I would now like to impart this knowledge towards others who feel a similar way.
I know very well, animated filmmaking is hard. Very hard in fact. One of my main goals, is to make the learning process easier for other people. Feel free to check out any of my courses and I hope I have helped you in your quest to achieve your dream! :)

I'm glad I found this course! But! cannot see the mouse cursor. It is not possible to understand which letter to press, R or A. In a couple of videos, the haste, the clicking, and the mouse cannot be followed. Where is? There are a few bugs, something doesn't work as it should, even though the version number is the same. A section on basic setup could fit between the videos. Please! You can't even find the dot in the menu that the instructor clicked on. Lost the thread there... Apart from the above, thank you very much for the basics, they were explained completely clearly and comprehensibly! Good luck in the future! And please don't rush! Have a nice day! Peter

Awesome course! The course is very well structured and Danan Thilakanathan does an amazing job of thoroughly explaining each and every aspect of Blender. I would recommend this course to anyone who has any interest in Blender. I found the material easy to follow and well constructed. The instructor covers theory and implementation, and it is deep, with real app examples, outstanding. You will not be disappointed!

The class was nice in that it taught quite a bit. My problems would be that it feels like it ended abruptly, and didn't really go in depth enough for me.

This is a great into to Blender providing a complete overview of the interface, the concepts, the features of Blender and what it is capable of. I had dabbled for a while reading the manuals and trying various YouTube tutorials but found the experience disjointed, this course puts it all into perspective and provides the foundation to go ahead and build upon.

You explain Blender perfectly, you methodically cover each aspect of the subject you are teaching. I would only suggest, small tests to verify comprehension, and there are grammatical errors. The grammatical errors can be overlooked because English may not be your primary language. Great Job!!! *REVISED* I had some issues with following along during the rain exercise. I did not have the same menu on the side when it came to texture (I was unable to select mirror/glass. Still a LOT learned and I enjoyed it immensely!

1- No responding to my too many questions. 2- Too many "shortcuts" without saying how/what to press in keyboard . . This review might be changed after i finish this course, but so far ITS NOT THAT MUCH, i hoped i could finish it in 1-2 days (time is not a problem), you not responding is my issue. My suggestions: please Show on screen/speak what you are pressing on keyboard cause it gets really messy trying to find the shortcut in ways i cant go back from unless i started a new project, witch is not good. . . Thank you! . . . : still not clear instructions.

Nice introduction to blender when you know nothing. The half is a little bit "boring" but necessary to understand the interface well. My only advice: keep blending ;) The second part complete the first as you start to play with the software: you start to think that you had the chance to have a great introduction to the interface :) I wish the instructor to success in his work !

Its a good course so far, As a novice to this software it has helped so far knowing where to look for certain features in the interface. I'm looking forward to the rest of the course! Halfway through the course and Blender has is infinite in its capabilities but will definitely need to reference this course through my evolution in this medium. I feel much more capable after the halfway point!

Well organized, however, I wish, like in other tutorials I've watched, he had the ability to show the keystrokes he was applying, onscreen, as he used them. It's often a little difficult to follow along closely. I greatly appreciate all that was taught and all I learned. However, there are many instances where the teacher moved too quickly and didn't completely explain all the keystrokes needed to complete the operations. This left me lost and needing to replay segments of each tutorial multiple times to finally figure out what I either missed or wasn't mentioned. Only after very close study of the teacher's screen could I figure out what I needed to do to get my objects to behave as I was being taught to make them do. Truthfully, it did make the overall course much more hands on! Overall, he knows his stuff and I'm learning to use Blender—so the tutorials work! :) I applaud him for tackling such dense material!

Great Course. Very comprehensive, very detailed (at times, a bit too detailed), but for sure one of the best introduction Blender courses out there. Mr. Thilakanathan speaks very clearly most of the time, he has very nice voice (a voice it's easy to listen to, and believe me I've heard some lecturers which have, well, 'not easy to listen to' voices). Worth the time and the money. Great.
