Learn Web Designing & HTML5/CSS3 Essentials in 4-Hours (Udemy.com)

Overall, this is a PHENOMENAL course. Brad does a great job of teaching how to take apart a PSD and take those same elements and convert it to a web page using HTML and CSS. I took it after completing the HTML/CSS portion of his Complete Web Design course and it really helped to re-inforce that portion of the course. However, it might be a bit overwhelming if you don't have any prior experience with Photoshop or with HTML/CSS, so you may have to watch some of the videos more than once. (But with some practice, you should be able to easily duplicate what you're seeing in the videos.) The only thing I didn't like is there were a few times Brad would be in the middle of a lecture and would add a CSS element that he hadn't introduced, and would say "I'm not going to explain this in detail; if you want to know more check out such-and-such website." Mind you, probably 98% of the material was properly introduced and explained, but I feel like if you use something in your lectures, you should be willing to explain to your students what it is and how it works. That said, I've taken about a dozen courses in web design on udemy, and Brad Hussey is one of the better instructors - and this course is definitely worth checking out.

Ps, not a beginner - was searching for some information ....found it in three of brad's courses ! ... that's where i have began from ... great at what he does. Not yet through with the course but i know my rating won't change - i have other courses from the same instructor as well! Glad that the instructor is well organised and manages to cover all that one needs in reasonable time ... some people think he is fast , you can pause, go back and forth through the videos.

The class is great for learning how the CSS works as you follow along. The only thing I didn't really like was that the instructor didn't want to further explain a few things in the lecture, like when he says "I'm not going to explain this in detail" when he created the clearfix class. As a customer, I signed up for Udemy for training and wanted to using these resources to grow my skills for my job. But to tell me to go find that information for myself doesn't seem very helpful. It should be part of the course.

This is a great place to start if you want to start diving into web design/development, however, as the tittle says this course only teaches the Essential elements of web design/development, Brad does his best to teach you all the necessary information clearly, and even when he can't (because otherwise the course would be too long) he shows you some very good resources where you can learn for yourself. I did this course as a complimentary course to his Ultimate Web Designer & Developer Course (which I totally recommend) to learn a little more about going from a PSD file to an HTML/CSS site, and I thought I'd know everything he shows here about HTML/CSS coding (since I'm half through the other course already), but I actually learned some new tricks from this course, so I also recommend it as a complimentary course.

This course has a set of very useful skills when it comes to designing a Web site. As always, Brad Hussey does a fantastic job of explaining pertinent skills while simultaneously helping you get the hands-on experience you need to really learn what's being taught. The bottom line here is if you are serious about learning to build Web sites, any course taught by Brad Hussey is going to be your best option.

This course is an excellent and engaging introduction to HTML and CSS. The instructor is clearly knowledgeable in what he teaches. And Brad conveys his knowledge in a series of refreshingly short yet effective lectures. The emphasis is on actually coding a sample web page, and one which appropriately requires covering many commonly encountered facets of HTML and CSS such as cursor hovering effects and floats. He also utilizes good coding practices for organizing and commenting code. I enjoyed his course so much, I'm now moving on to his Bootstrap and WordPress course. I have only one minor criticism. I'd personally have liked more explanation of the topic of clearfix within this course. Though the instructor at least provides a link to an external information page for further reading, one would expect common issues for HTML and CSS coders to be adequately addressed within the scope of the course itself. But Brad otherwise covers the basics quite well, well enough to give me the confidence to produce a basic but effective and very decently styled web page on my own. I noticed a few course reviewers pointed out the course is now over four years old as of the date of this review (Jan 2017). Though I'm obviously no expert, I believe this course is still very valid at this time. Not much appears to have changed or been added to either HTML or CSS since 2012. HTML 5 is still the standard, and while a few CSS 4 modules have been released since 2012, much of CSS is still version 3. It's furthermore not clear to me if these new improvements are really all that important to a beginner's course specifically, at least. As an experienced programmer in other languages, but with very limited HTML and absolutely no prior CSS experience, I was able to grasp everything quickly and particularly appreciated his practical and organized approach. Great course, I highly recommend it.

I would have left 3 stars due to the fact the images aren't ready for you however thinking of the whole learning environment i think its better i left 4 due to it being part of a learning curve. Very happy im on a MBP as using Windows and trying to follow the shortcuts would be a major pain!!!! EDIT: Half way through the course, still happy to give 4 stars. Explanations on certain things could be more in depth and some slowing down on inputting would be appreciated as there is a lot of pausing of videos to type/catch up. EDIT 2: Finished the course, thank you so much Brad for helping me with CSS3 and HTML5. The course was very well laid out and very easy to understand. I enjoyed coming back to it to learn new things along the way and can take from this course many different new things such as clearfix for one and your help on Coda 2 as well. Upped the rating to 5 stars due to content being excellent and immersive.

Illuminating and enjoyable. The act of watching and repeating during the lectures helped with memorising certain commands and functions, that might have taken considerably longer if I had tried the same lesson in book form. Brad Hussey is very good at communicating in a clear manner. The lessons were easy to follow and the results were always obvious at the end (ie. if there was a mistake and something wasn't displaying as it should then the odds were 100% it was because I hadn't closed a command). I've decided to move from this relatively introductory exercise into doing one of Brad's bigger courses.

Brad did a great job of breaking down the basics of what it really takes to put together a very professional website from a PSD file in a highly effective and efficient manner. Having the code to refer to in separate files helped a lot, as did having extra documents that outlined additional resources. Things that might bug you: The first video tutorial dealing with the extraction of web elements is as much as lesson in how to use Photoshop as anything else, and didn't much cover *why* you want to pick out certain elements over others. Also, there was a high level of assumption about the viewer's environment. If you're brand new and have never coded anything or worked with graphics programs at all, this might be a little steep. The video quality is pretty bad, you can't really tell what Brad is typing while he's doing it. The comments supported my experience, but, again, having the finished code in other documents made up for it (though it was a little annoying to have to pause the video, find the snippet, realize "Oh, hey, I guess 'florp' isn't a word after all', and then get on it with the lesson). The audio is not consistent from video to video so be prepared to have to adjust the volume at the beginning of each one. However, in the end, I still give it Five Stars because it accomplished its goal beautifully and delivered above and beyond. The extra couple of videos at the end were wonderful, especially the Sticky Footer video. I highly recommend this.

Brad is very engaged and runs through the course material in a high and entertaining pace. However the video quality of this course is quite poor and whilst I do understand that the scope of this course is limited I do miss the 'why' in quite a few lectures. Some external sources are being referenced but it is not quite clear what the 'target audience' for this course is. (Meaning skipping does not suit for absolute beginners, where the course content in general seems to be targeting that group). The marketing for 'justhost' .. no idea what to think of that.. I skipped it and marked the lesson 'read'. General feedback: nice course at high pace, covers how to setup a website in HTML5. The structure is explained quite well. The CSS3 part is more a 'punch in what the instructor does' if your knowledge about CCS/CSS3 is limited. I think that perhaps 'gotchas' on how to setup or request a PSD to be delivered (grids) could have been covered. There is not really much done in the 'Web Design' area. Also this course covers just 'one page' and not a 'website', expect no functionality like coding contact form, input validation and submits. Overal I thought this course was 'OK' for a short course.

Great program with lots of detail and reasoning on why he was using which tags and why. A great overview on how to take a PSD and make it a living site. Excellent bonus on creating a sticky footer.

Great course on learning how to code a website from a graphic mock-up, it was cool to learn how to layout sections in CSS with some nice little touches for making elements display better on screen etc, definitely worth checking out if you are new to web coding & want to get up to speed with creating a site
