Our take
Based on the ratings of 4,019 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in May 2013. No course pays to be reviewed.
This is a free, hour-long crash course from Brad Hussey on the least glamorous but most necessary part of publishing a site: buying a domain, picking a hosting package, and getting files live over FTP. It also shows how to spin up a WordPress site and publish a first post in under five minutes. Nine short lectures across four sections cover the whole path from empty domain to live page. It's built for people who have never touched a registrar or a host before, not for anyone already comfortable with web infrastructure.
Reviewers mostly praise how simple Brad makes it: exactly what I needed, says one, and several call his explanations clear and easy to follow even years after release. He walks through one specific hosting company, which a few reviews note you just have to adapt if you use a different one. Naresh Ravula flags that Brad repeats steps unnecessarily on video. Samyak Gupta wanted a section for developers deploying frameworks like Django or Flask. One three-star review argues the course only teaches what the instructor wants covered and skips anything you could find on YouTube.
At free with no certificate, there's little risk in trying it, and the length means you'll finish in an evening. It hasn't been updated since 2013, so registrar and hosting dashboards will look different than what's on screen. It also sits oddly in CourseDuck's UI Design lineup alongside Figma and UX courses. It's not a design course at all, just a useful companion once you're ready to actually publish whatever you built.
Pros
- Free, and short enough to finish in one sitting
- Brad Hussey's step by step style gets consistent praise from reviewers
- Covers domain buying, hosting, FTP upload, and WordPress setup in one course
- Includes a five-minute WordPress setup for anyone without a site yet
Cons
- Not updated since 2013, so hosting dashboards shown are outdated
- Walks through one specific hosting company rather than general principles
- Too thin for developers deploying with frameworks like Django or Flask
This superfast class gave me an idea. It's clear. Right to the point. Exactly what I needed.
Listed as All Levels, but really only useful if you've never bought a domain or host before.

The course did what it said it would. It's nice walk-through of what can easily be a daunting task. Brad's way of teaching is simple and understandable. He uses his desired hosting company, but it's not a major issue as you can follow through easy enough when using a different company. Cheers for the course, Ben

Brad made it very simple to understand and if you follow along with him everything is done just as explained even today in 2018. This guy is NOT poison! Hes the reason i know what i know about wed design and development, and my go to source for information on the topic

Great course Brad, really loved it. I am a helpdesk technician for a Hosting company and you just made it look so easy for me to explain to my clients how to get a domain registered, transfer domain over to my company and upload their website to their domain :)

The course was good. But did not clearly understand how to set up ftp and transfer files. Also, all the websites used in the tutorial have been updated since this video was made and some of the things mentioned are difficult to find. For eg., I did not find the ftp options on bradhussey.ca But the rest of the course was good.

It was good really informative, but somehow not a complete explanatory material for a beginner i can say. As I still can't understand about the accounts on these websites which you used.

Great overview of the web hosting process, from starting out with a simple GoDaddy domain name registration to a little more involved hosting package from a separate company. The best part is the course is free! Thanks for all the info Brad :)

Its free and I wouldn't dare to discourage anyone to enroll for this course. I am sure being a beginner , I am being fed... only those content what the teachers expect me to learn. Very good approach to deliver the content. But @Brad You need to understand a student doesn't want to limit to the content what you expect them to learn. I mean ... we can find this through google or YouTube. And it wasn't that informative. I hope I am not going to be disappointed for the paid courses I have enrolled for. To everyone , yes please enroll this free course. Its complete and it is useful for ... what a person has to know. Its just a quick intro. But the way he has represented.... its perfectly neat.

Brad's Web Hosting 101 is an excellent quick course even for absolute beginners. Takes you from scratch to publishing your first blog post step by step. Every step on its own is summarized at the end of each respective video which makes it absolutely perfect. I highly recommend all other Brad's courses, too. I've been through the Bootstrap so far and I can't wait to get through all the others.

I was excited to come across this course as I desperately needed to get my own website up and running. Brad clearly explains everything you need to know to about domains and hosting services. I'm proud to finally have a live website!
