Course Description
What you will learn in this course?
In this course, you will learn the fundamentals of CI/CD which is short for Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery and be able to apply these fundamentals in your React Native app development process.
The word Deployment is often used in place of Delivery but effectively means the same thing.
These skills are essential to maximize your career potential in 2019 and beyond, because more and more companies are adopting these development practices requiring new employees or freelancers to be well versed in these concepts.
What is Continuous Integration (CI) ?
CI is the practice of merging all programmers current working copies to a shared mainline on a regular basis (usually several times a day).
A developer checks out a working copy of the code base prior to making a change. Over time as other developers check out and make changes, this checked out working copy of the source code base gets out of date, potentially requiring more and more work by developers to actually check their completed changes back in to the main repository.
Without using CI it can become really difficult to merge all these changes and can lead to it taking more time to merge changes back into the main source code base than it took to make the the change itself.
CI seeks to eliminate this problem by making sure all developers integrate early and often with the goal to reduce rework and ultimately save cost and time. This involves all developers merging their code back into the main repository multiple times a day.
An added bonus is that each programmer who is merging changes needs to build and run (and pass) all unit tests which usually run automatically meaning the code base is easier to work with and merge changes into and is potentially more stable as a result.
What is Continuous Delivery or Deployment (CD) ?
This extends CI to ensure that new changes to software can be released to clients quicker, but in a more sustainable way. It takes the advantages of CI from a development perspective (automated testing, on code check-in, etc) allowing the actual code base to be built and new releases to be automatically released to the client, effectively meaning a new version can be deployed to the client by a click of a button.
CI/CD concepts.
By adhering to a CI/CD development process, the code base can be built and released more quickly, and is in a more stable state overall. These are some of the reasons why more and more companies are adopting a CI/CD development process in 2019 and beyond.
Key topics in this course.
1. Continuous Integration
2. Continuous Delivery
3. App Center
4. GitHub Pull Requests
5. Branch protection
6. UI Tests
7. App Diagnostics
8. App Analytics
What will you learn?
• Learn how to track errors and crashes in your apps.
• Learn how to track any event triggered within your apps.
• Apply complete CI/CD flows in your app development process.
• Use GitHub to trigger code checks and app distribution to users.
• Use App Center to automate checks and protect important branches.
• Leverage App Center to automatically create builds on every merge.
• Automate the distribution of a new build to beta testers.
• Automate the distribution of new releases to the Google app store.
• Focus on the development of features, leave the build and distribution to App Center.
• Improve teamwork with automatic builds and checks that improve the quality of your merges.
• Enable product discovery with the help of Analytics in the App Center.
• Test your app in a wide array of cloud-hosted physical devices.
Differences with other CI/CD courses.
While there are other CI/CD courses out there, most of them are too general. This course is completely tailored to React Native developers, this way you can immediately start applying what you learn in your app development process. Because of this, the course also covers topics not normally found on other CI/CD courses, such as UI Testing for React Native app development.
Who is the course aimed at?
The course does not require any previous CI/CD or DevOps experience, although some basic Git & GitHub experience is desirable.
While this is a CI/CD course, it is oriented to React Native app developers, so some basic React Native app development experience is required.

Good course to understand the whole CI/CD process, but it can only be used for that, understanding the flow, since everything is explained using App Center, wich has already been discontinued.

I like the course very much, I think it was quite thorough on the subject. What I would like to have be better covered is how to run the UI tests and how to add unit tests as part of the Continuous Quality

worried a little bit at the beginning, but it turn to be an amazing course! 5/5 definitely.

For me this course was way too careless with my time. There was A LOT of repetition, over and over again. I don't understand that after 8 hours of lectures, I haven't even learnt how to deal properly with environments, e.g. set up environment-specific config, or run build scripts. Also, 80% of the content in lecture 4, is redoing what we did in lecture 3, because of an unsupported feature in Github App Center. Why not setup it up correctly in the first place, and just mention the reason for setting it up like this? That would easily save an hour. I also think the explanation could have been more in depth. Now it's mostly 'click here, click here, type this' without mentioning the underlying reasons or the way things work. An example for this is setting up the app with Expo in the first sections, then starting over all over again in lecture 3 without Expo, using React Native CLI, without properly explaining that Expo (managed flow) isn't even supported by App Center! In my opinion, this should have been mention immediately, at the start of the course, because Expo is the default way of creating React Native apps, so if you're using Expo, taking a course on App Center is useless. It kind of feels like the instructor was learning App Center himself whilst creating this course, running into limitations along the way, but didn't bother to re-record already finished sections.

Here I have learned the CI and CD. But here what i understand is, the thrid party service handled our app. its looks like a security issue, right.

For me personally an OK course. The Continuous Quality section could have been better. Why would I want to write or record tests for each Platform (Android and iOS) when I develop my app in React Native? I know that MS App Center officially does not support Detox as Testing Framework, but I think there is a way to use it. Also what about more lightweight alternative CQ approaches? Maybe React Native Testing Library with unit testing hook (even though I know that it is integration testing and not E2E testing)? I think this part deserved some more attention. At least now I know how I don't want to setup Continuous Quality in my project. The other parts were fine. All in all I've learned something, but unfortunately not a 100% solution for me.

Everything that I want to learn, plus diagnostics, analytics, and the knowledge that I can utilize app center for push notifications. Will speed up development on my application considerably. Thank you! :)

All good, All Valuable, I just hope he could reply fast on my inquiries, it's been 7 days since I posted it and I got no reply still. Either way the content is a gem, Thank you very much!

The course is good, but it is not generic, it depends a lot on AppCenter. The name should be "Master CI/CD for React Native with AppCenter". It does not have anything about test with jest, Fastlane and integration with CircleCi, but you will learn the how to integrate with GitHub, PlayStore and App Store (using AppCenter)
