Steve McDonald's course is a 7.2 hour walkthrough for people who have never opened Access, or who know a little Excel and want to see how a database works. It runs 54 lectures across 14 sections: tables, database design, field properties, forms, queries and reports. Then comes a short VBA intro, an advanced form built start to finish, and a glossary of hands-on definitions. It is taught on Access 2016, and the headline also names 2010 and 2013. About 21,500 students have enrolled.

Reviewers mostly praise the teaching. They call it clear, direct and easy to follow, with a pleasant voice, and say working alongside the videos helps. One learner built a multi-query database that sped up their job. One experienced user says the tips still taught them something. The complaints cluster around a few spots. The VBA section confuses people: one reviewer replayed it repeatedly and still hit errors. Another says a lesson on query criteria using Like can't be reproduced as shown. One harsh review calls the course too theoretical and light on the hard parts.

Value is decent for a first pass. Roughly nine in ten of the 2,325 ratings are four or five stars. The last update was October 2021, so newer Access builds may look different, and one reviewer did not get the pop-ups shown in the lessons and suspects a settings difference. There are no quizzes or assignments, so practice is up to you. Treat it as a gentle start on tables, queries, forms and reports, and look elsewhere if VBA is your real goal.

It's been more than 15 years since I last created an Access database with dependencies and I selected this course as a refresher. The presenter is confident and thorough. In the first segment my first goal was realized - I experienced a great "Ah HA!" moment. I'm looking forward to the rest of this series.

Steve is a great instructor, and I learned a lot from this course. With the knowledge from this course, I was able to create a database with multiple queries that helps me perform my job duties significantly more quickly. I found the VBA section slightly confusing, but Steve mentioned that it's just a quick review of VBA and will probably be confusing. Overall, I highly recommend this course for anyone interested in unlocking the power of Access.

This course is great at providing fundamentals of database for anyone who never learned database. I used this course as knowledge refreshment / brush up about DB. The author, Steve, is very patient in explaining each section. Not too fast and not too slow. I like how he delivered it. I really recommend this course for anyone who has no background or prior knowledge / experience in DB. Thanks Steve.

Not happy with this course at all. its only theoretic bullshit and not practical at all. He complicates the most simplest of steps and for the difficult part of the course, he kinda says you have to figure out that yourself. worst course on Udemy so far.
