Our take
Based on the ratings of 270 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in July 2023. No course pays to be reviewed.
This is a short, free introduction to Microsoft SQL Server from Trevoir Williams. It runs 54 minutes across 11 lectures in four sections: a quick intro, setting up SQL Server, a main block on manipulating the database, and a one-minute wrap-up. The syllabus shows basic T-SQL, relationships and foreign keys, and working in SQL Server Management Studio. Despite the bootcamp label, it is a taster, not a full learning path. About 6,500 students have taken it, and it holds a 4.6 rating from 270 reviews.
Reviewers keep coming back to the same words: short, clear, straight to the point. Several say the teaching is easy to follow and never boring, and one intern who had been thrown into SQL Server at work called it a good refresher. The complaints are small but real. One reviewer wanted install steps for other operating systems. Another, who gave one star, found some links and references out of date and thought the delivery was flat, with frequent pauses. The course was last updated in July 2023, so expect some drift.
Value is simple: it costs nothing and takes less than an hour, so the risk is low. There are no quizzes and no coding exercises, so any practice is up to the student. Treat it as a warm-up before a longer paid SQL Server course, or as a quick refresher if you have used the tool before. Anyone who needs more than the basics will have to look further.
Pros
- Short enough to finish in one sitting, at 54 minutes over 11 lectures
- Reviewers call the explanations simple and easy to follow for beginners
- Covers install, SSMS, basic T-SQL and foreign keys in one pass
- Free, with no prerequisites, so there is nothing to lose by trying it
Cons
- No quizzes or coding exercises, so students must make their own practice
- Last updated in July 2023; one reviewer hit dead links and dated content
- Install steps cover no other operating systems, per one reviewer
Short, simple, and straight to the point. Great refresher for someone like me who was forced to brute-force learning this application by our DB Administrator as part of the interns' project.
Fits true beginners with no prerequisites, but it stops at the basics and one reviewer wanted install steps for other operating systems.

Excellent refresher ! This is quite basic as Mr Williams says it will be, yet it would be easy for a newbie to take and build on the lessons here.
