Course Description
.NET 5 is the future.
It will combine the old .NET framework with .NET Core and that's why it’s about time to update this course with the latest version of .NET.
You will learn the crucial stuff about web development with Web API and Entity Framework in .NET 5 in no time so that you're able to join new projects and companies who are craving for .NET developers like you very soon.
With the example application, we're going to build you will be able to create, read, update, and delete contacts. We will use people you might even know, like Peter Parker or Tony Stark.
The tools we’re going to use are the .NET SDK, of course, together with Visual Studio to write our code, Postman to make our REST calls and SQL Server Express for our database.
Everything is available for free! So you already have everything you need to start developing with .NET 5.
A few minutes into the course, you will already make your first Web API call.
After that you create your own model and controller to make use of the Model-View-Controller pattern and implement all CRUD operations, meaning create, read, update and delete with the corresponding HTTP methods GET, POST, PUT and DELETE.
Then you will make your data persistent with the help of the object-relational mapper Entity Framework and code-first migration.
With all that knowledge, you are ready to conquer any .NET 5 back end application.

Writing code is what drives me. Creating software out of nothing is a skill I truly am passionate about and I want to share this astonishing feeling of making stuff with you.
I started to learn several programming languages as a teenager and always wanted to create software ever since I first played a game on a Commodore 64. During my bachelor and master studies, I joined various companies, made desktop and web applications as well as video games professionally and was always anxious to improve my craft, which I have been doing for more than 15 years now.
For me, the most important part of writing and teaching code is to have fun. If certain ways work for you and the results are maintainable and you have fun with your results, you're doing it the right way. I don't care if you always use your keyboard or switch to the mouse from time to time, so-called best practices are not always best or practical, I want to teach you to develop software in a way it works in the industry, a way it works for you and in a way that makes you happy.

I really enjoyed the course Patrick; it gave me a very good understanding of how Models, Views, and Controllers interact, as well as how you save data into a database; well done on creating such an incredible course, I completed the whole course.

The course was a good one for beginner and also for those who needs some hands on practice. Course delivery was ok. It would be better if there were more discussion on attribute routing and how it leads to Rest API implementation.

Once again I'm very satisfied with a course by Patrick God. The course is very objective and useful for me. I strongly recommend it to anyone who needs to learn quickly the principles of web API 2. Very good!

Nice pacing and explanations. Examples are short but thoroughly worked through so the thread of what is going on tactically and globally is understood. No blind spots or "Huh??? How did he do that?"

Really good hands-on course. Patrick was very easy to understand. Good English speaker and a good programmer. He covered how to create a REST web service with the API. Now I know how to create my own. That's the best you can ask from a course. Good stuff, Patrick.

basically it is good enough to a beginner of web api. My suggestion is that the second part of the Entity framework is to quick. it did not cover CRUD completely. could you please upgrade soon as you can.
By Rick Brown on 2/10/2017
Very straight to the point. it was refreshing instead of the usual, "Let me make this sound complex, so i can appear smart" approach. I would definitely take other courses taught by him

Really enjoyable course, great section lengths gets straight to the point without making the subject over complicated. It would be great to see a follow on course or extra sections where the database was already in place and how to use token authentication.

It was good that you increased the font size and your video was recorded in full HD. Excellent! This is a course that goes to the point and simple, this course gave me a great view about what is WebApi, how to build a WebApi and to test it, the examples are very good considering the four verbs that are enough to build our apps. Really this course is great. Thank and best regards

For a short/free course, I thought Patrick was excellent. My only criticism is that I wish some of the CRUD scenarios were less mocked up (e.g. hard-coded array of objects directly in the code) vs. a more realistic example using a database. The short EF section at the end was helpful, but I'd prefer these tutorials be more in-line what a developer would really need to do. All that said, I understand the need to balance course length, complexity, focus (avoiding tangents) and costs to deliver (it was free!!). All in all great Job Patrick/Udemy - I am a huge fan and will continue to purchase courses and support the community!
